Amy sighed as she got into the bed and look out the window.
As for the assassins, they are quite odd as well. She had left the matter alone since she left, but she tries to figure out from what she knew. Selim had pulled the strings to bring the retainers and ability users away from Leon thus taking down his protection bit by bit.
However, the Empty space is powerful enough to take them all in one fell swoop if they are in one area at the same time.
That means that killing them would not bring any benefit.
Everyone left the Empty Space alive. Theseus was beaten up badly but otherwise, he's okay.
When the Empty Space was used, they didn't use it on the entire colosseum and Rana lured Leon and the others away. She was pretty weak, so she is unable to use the power of the space to finish the job, so she had people inside to take care of that. None of them are fatally armed when they came out and Leon and Rufus seemed unharmed though Rana is gone.
Amy didn't figure out that Rana was an ability user until she spied on Selim. She didn't know what ability she had nor what it is called until Alabaster told her. She then told him that she wanted Rana by their side for her powerful ability, so she gave him the last remaining worm, but he is unable to find her and thus she is gone.
She had trust Alabaster immensely due to his knowledge of the future but after seeing how much she had miscalculated as well as witness the snipers and rifles, she punished Alabaster and forcefully entered his memories, a painful procedure to see what else he hid from her.
And it was a lot.
In the future, the event in which Viola had used her ability to wipe the barrier's influence didn't happen and all the adults tried to kill everyone inside the Grand Hall. Rufus and Leon rescued everyone though it took a while to remove the command. Both were proclaimed as heroes, but it gave birth to a lot of controversy.
For one, the King put everyone to death without trial. Some speculate it was the nobility that tried to attack him. Others believe that the war started because Hekaton attacked the prince hence it was the reason for the five-year war.
Alabaster had a list of people who would benefit from killing the prince.
The Royal Duke Sylvester
He is second in line to the throne after Leon and in the manga, he is already known to be ambitious and disliked Leon so his death would benefit him. However, it is also a detriment as he would be implicated, and he is far too intelligent to do something like this.
Next is Right Queen Marguarite of Hekaton.
Solin has spies placed by the Right Royals. It is likely after the death of her son; she wanted revenge and used their spies to assassinate Leon. But she is a sensible ruler who has peacefully and calmly settled even the most dangerous disputes especially between the political factions and palace intrigue. It is uncharacteristic of her as she is not fond of Prince Alphonso.
Right Grand Prince Phillip
He is extremely ambitious and power hungry. Killing Leon would benefit him.
There are several more but there is something that doesn't make sense, the barriers.
That is something that Alabaster didn't see coming which changed a lot of things that the three of them had initially thought.
Those barriers have been in school grounds for centuries and the spell that turned people into mindless zombies is a forbidden spell, a war crime. It has been sealed away, and no one has used it since. Yet it is hidden in the barriers design.
It has to be meticulous planned for years, long before Leon would enter the academy.
She needed answers quickly.
Checking up on Alabaster, he seems to be recovering. The worm doesn't hide anything. He should be holding a grudge against her, and she won't blame him but thankfully, he doesn't. Torture is not something she enjoys doing but she needed his memories and because of the Temporal Disease, the usually painless process becomes painful.
Why did the future change?
Viola was the only change in the story. People praise her as a saintess now. Her actions didn't happen in the past so what happened?
"Do you really want to know?"
Amy paused after hearing that voice again. It has been nearly three years since she last heard it.
"Are you and your friends entertained?" she grumbled in a mocking tone.
"We did." the voice says cheerfully ignoring her tone, "but don't you want to know how the future changed?"
"Did you do something?" she asked curiously.
"No. It was all her. Alabaster's past was different because Viola never woke up."
Ah, that makes sense. If Viola never got out of her coma, she wouldn't even be there.
"I guess that makes sense." she murmured. "I'm also guessing that you know who the mastermind behind all of this is."
"Obviously but you probably know."
"On the contrary, I don't. I only have only speculation." she argued.
"Speak your peace then."
"Is it Professor Zoe?"
"Martine Zoe? Why do you think so?" the voice asked curiously.
Martine Zoe is the only living being who can remember the days when the puppeteer spell was used and probably used it herself. She is skilled enough to know and use all sorts of spells forgotten by time. Furthermore, it just so happens that she is conveniently overseas when all this happened.
The voice giggled in response. Is she right?
"There is only one person who figured out the truth."
Amy had a puzzled look as they said it.
"That person had taken decisive action through this whole ordeal. In fact, in Alabaster's past, the reason why there is very little casualty is because of them."
"And yet it is kept secret." she realized.
The voice didn't respond but she could guess that they are satisfied with her reaction.
"Go to sleep, young one. You will need your energy to meet Selim soon. You may not be able to save him, but you can at least provide him and yourself some peace."
