News about the prince of Solin will definitely start spreading outside the academy after that entrance. As for that griffon, it is definitely Rufus's doing. He is beginning to control monsters. The ceremony has stopped right there with a teacher dragging Leon and Rufus away to be lectured and the window to be fixed.
Knowing they need to hurry this up, the headmaster looked at the students.
"As you know, each grade is divided by three groups based on their knowledge and affiliation. They are Team Sun, Moon and Comet."
Amy frowned at the system. The names sound beautiful and flashy but it is a way to segregate students. The Sun is the national symbol of Solin and represents its citizens. Team Sun are for people who are naturalized Solinean with high talent for Magic. Team Moon is the opposite. It represents foreigners with talent and from powerful families. Team Comet are the ones who are absolute beginners. They are usually not skilled in magic at all and are new to the concept and represents the Team where commoners go. Aron began as a member of Team Comet since he is considered a foreign commoner but became a part of Team Moon in his second year up to his fifth year. This kind of environment encourages discrimination that creates a sense of division among them.
"If you look at your badge, you will see your team."
Everyone then looked at their badges and they see their black badges now have designs on them. Amy is obviously on Team Sun.
"Your team will be your classmates, team members and partners. The colors represent your year. Your badge is black then it turns blue, red, yellow and finally white." she finished.
"We do have to warn you. The behavior those two had displayed earlier will not be tolerated in the future. The rules are quite strict and rule breakers will be severely punished. Now you are dismissed." The headmistress says and everyone dispersed.
There are a few differences in the school in both the story and now. The Academy is more of an institution than a typical boarding school for one. Not a single student here will truly have a chance to act like children. All that they will have in mind is to excel in their studies. Amy also has her concern mostly regarding Leon.
During Leon's administration, the number of students were much higher and they take care of the students' mental health more seriously. Currently, the entire student body alone makes up around less than five hundred students. It is quite difficult for anyone to get into this school and even more difficult to graduate. Every single student here is either extremely talented, had prior training or are from influential families. Amy checks out all three and so did everyone around her.
The mages in Solin are the strongest in the world and many people from other nations come and go to the school. But the school normally favors Solinean citizens than foreigners. The reason is because Hekaton is also a powerful country with its own mages but have been trying to undermine Solin's power for years, Getel's military and national power are severely weakened and Solin is afraid that they will attempt to steal their secrets and Damat is somewhat similar and are hostile to Getel who are Solin's ally. Karnei is the smallest but neutral country who have a mostly isolationist policy but are thought to be opportunistic.
Amy thought back to the manga where Leon is first mentioned. He may be a troublemaker but no one wants to cross him. His intro states that all Solinean Kings all have abilities but none like Leon and has brought the power scale out of balance the moment his powers manifested. What's worse is that he is friends with many ability users who remain close to him. In addition to being powerful himself, he is surrounded by powerful people who are loyal to him. It means that he is considered a huge threat even as a child. He has to go through all that when he is a kid. Amy suddenly remembered Leon's training. He is more harsh on himself than on others when it comes in that aspect.
Those with ulterior motives might try to steal state secrets or attempt assassination which isn't a stretch and bringing their kids to Solin is a good cover. She wouldn't be surprised if some of the students here are also tasked with assassinating the prince according to their parents orders or their monarch. Perhaps this is the true reason why he came to the Magic Academy, because of the obvious danger by those who would expect his arrival and corner him like a gang of dogs on a defenseless cat.
To say in retrospect, Leon's unexpected and un-noble like entrance kinda screams; 'Don't fuck with me but also don't just see me merely as a prince'. Leon did say he envied a normal life and his charming personality made his school life somewhat enjoyable. She may have seen King Leon in him but right now he is just a kid. He's gonna be more vulnerable than in his adult self no matter how much he tries to hide it with his theatrics.
Amy walked with her sister while carrying a satchel filled with materials needed for the morning classes.
At this point now, things are gonna get dangerous. She thought darkly. She isn't worried about his safety, oh no. She is more worried about Rufus and his mentality. Seeing that griffon has made her a bit anxious because he has now started using this part of his power. It is only a matter of time before he experiments. His experiences from this point will either be traumatic or enlightening and she doesn't know which one is worse. He is known for being unpredictable in the story after all. His power is the polar opposite of hers and has the power to turn the world upside down. If that's not bad enough, he is devious, charismatic, and unreadable who could make anyone stay by his side no matter what background. Even in the manga, no one knows his true feelings as they were kept to himself.
After getting into the classroom, she saw Melissa and the others who wave at them to join them. The class has rows of large tables that could fit around eight students each.
"I wonder how those two are doing." Nathaniel said.
"Probably getting lectured but I don't think they will punish them as much." Melissa said with a shrug.
Then the doors opened to their potions professor and Leon and Rufus behind him. They don't look guilty at all. Upon seeing familiar faces, the boys went to sit with them.
The professor distastefully stares at Amy's table. Amy admits that by association, she will also be hated by the teachers.
"My name is Professor Gunhilde and I will be your potions professor."
No surname. Definitely commoner. Amy thought. She is a strict woman looking woman as strong as her name. Her disposition is full of displeasure but she has a commanding presence. Despite her advanced age, she looks like she could probably beat them all in a fight.
"I hope you understand that there will be no deliberate mischief tolerated in my class." she strictly says. "I do not care for your reputation or rumors, no matter how infamous. However, I also do not care about your background as nobles as well. In this class, you are the students and I am the teacher and you will see me and treat me as such." She then grabbed a piece of chalk and wrote on the board with large letters.
"Now! Who can tell me the different uses of potions between an apothecary and an alchemist?" She says suddenly.
There are no hands up. The teacher looks disappointed of what she believes this class to be a spineless bunch but Amy raised her hand.
"Yes?"
"An apothecary creates potions primarily for commercial and medical use. An alchemist uses their skill in potions exclusively in alchemy where they mostly study it or in transmutation."
"Correct!" she responded a bit enthusiastically than expected. "Alchemy is the study of physical or otherworldly changes in magic. They transform materials and create new methods on improving what needs to be improved. Apothecaries create potions for commercial use and create potions for both medicine and convenience and are mostly assigned in the medical field. The skill to potions is a skill that branches to multiple professions."
"Teacher's pet" Leon whispered which was returned with a glare.
"Now turn your books to page 26."
