Chapter 24 - Ch 24: It's Turkey time [pt1]

A beam of light shot toward the sky from the heated room and illuminated the sky.

[Cleared Gate ⅔. Clear all gates to gain access to the main city gate.]

That message was akin to a taunt for all the players present for the tutorial.

"Darn it! I do not want to lose to that jerk, Soma. Oi, fire lady, I am willing to cooperate with you this time. But don't you think it's because I fear you? I just do not want to lose my position."

Elric sounded frustrated when he realised what was going on.

The longer he wasted time out here, the bigger the gap between his points.

"You cannot be serious. Do you want to ally with Angelica now? You realise that only one of us can win in the end, right?"

Clair asked in a surprised voice.

Even Elric's subordinates were surprised by this sudden rationality he was showing.

They were even more shocked when their leader followed Angelica's lead and supported her fire with his lightning.

The two destructive elements had similar natures and bounced off each other's energies.

But they would need more if they wanted to fight the monster.

The monster fought back against the spell that was containing it, and Clair decided she could no longer watch this fight happening.

[You have been buffed by your teammate. All your stats will be doubled for the next 15 minutes.]

The message came for both Angelica and Elric, surprising them.

"Don't think much of it. I will likely die if you both go down. So, I am doing this for myself as well."

Clair reminded the pair before they could call her out.

The trio's mana was concentrated in the spear, causing Angelica to be no longer able to control it.

[An unexpected alliance has been formed. Recalculating the world level…]

[Increasing the level of boss accordingly.]

[All boss levels increased from 24->28]

"Well fuck! This is getting worse and worse for us. Everyone, quickly retreat from here. We can no longer face this boss alone."

Angelica yelled, and everyone dashed toward the city's outside for safety.

Their only way inside the city was through that fire mole-like monster.

Meanwhile, Soma had already finished conquering the first two gates already.

And now he was off to the third gate.

The first two gates were based on hot and cold regions, but the third was different and the most difficult to get through.

The guardian of this place also had a temper, and it did not like outsiders interfering in its region.

Soma walked through the hallway and into the open space that led to the last section.

The ceiling disappeared, and a vast open field appeared before him.

The desert in the outskirts had looked impressive to Soma before, but that was nothing compared to the beauty of this place.

Unlike the forest, this grassland had natural grass planted, and the air was fresh.

Once he entered the grassland, the door closed behind Soma, and a startled cry rang.

Soon, a giant and majestic-looking ultra-fat turkey came running toward Soma.

It raised its massive beak and brought it down/

[The boss 'Festive Turkey' level 28 has found your location.]

It was a named boss, and Soma tried not to feel amused.

But this was the second food-based bird that had a name.

Soma was a little surprised to see the level of the world boss and how much it had risen.

He also noticed the missing announcement he had not paid attention to and let out an annoyed sigh.

"An unexpected alliance? I feel that this 'alliance' will be annoying for me."

But what was done was done.

The turkey boss reminded Soma that it threatened him as it brought its break down toward Soma's head.

The force of the collision caused the ground to shake.

-Cluck

The boss looked proud of its power, and Soma could only categorise the turkey boss's look as 'mocking.'

That turkey boss was looking down at Soma's human identity.

"Looking at your stupid face makes me want to fry you into a roasted turkey. I wonder how you will taste with all your tender meat! Oh, wait! You are a machine, right? You won't even roast properly."

The turkey looked offended at Soma's trigger words.

It flapped its massive wings and picked its body off the ground.

Then, it flapped its massive wings, sending fast winds toward Soma.

He could not see the wind, but Soma instinctively followed the wings' movements and direction and dodged the attack.

The fast wind ended up cracking the small stone behind Soma, and it would have likely broken his bones if the attack had hit him.

-Cluckkkk

The turkey landed harshly on the ground, stretching its massive wings dominatingly and landed in the dusty cloud the wind had left behind.

The way the turkey stretched its head reminded Soma of a gloating bastard.

Soma's Icy Jewel shined brightly when he attacked the turkey, and the big bird dodged it.

-Cluck?

The sound felt more questioning than any other Soma had heard from the turkey before, and the tilt of its head also gave off a similar feeling.

The cold from the Icy Jewel did not even phase the turkey.

It was a boss with tough feathers that resisted any temperature change in the environment.

Soma also tried fire magic, but the giant bird just shrugged it off as if it were nothing.

The turkey jumped up in the air again and flapped its wings hard.

Soma expected the wind blades to come back at him with a vengeance.

He did not expect the winds to converge and form a small tornado intended to shred everything.

The winds became faster, making their movement harder for Soma to track.

He dodged another attack and bided his time.

The turkey could not stay in the air indefinitely and had to come down.

Soma just needed to get close to the turkey when it was time for it to come down…

And it sounded easier than it was.

The winds coming at Soma were strong enough to push him back.

They pushed him back for every step he took to move forward.

There will be no progression at this rate. I can no longer wait around and get smacked around.

'If I cannot reach the turkey, then I will make the turkey reach me. Do I have anything in my arsenal to help me attract the turkey?'

Soma thought to look around in his storage, but the strong winds did not allow him.

So, he decided to use the best trick in the book.

He turned around and started to run away.

Had this been a game, the monster would have respawned once Soma got out of its range.

But this was real life, and Soma's fast running attracted the Turley's instincts to go after him.

The giant feathered beast instantly lept toward Soma, stretching its claws out to grab him.

Fortunately, there was no wind attack accompanying the attack. The turkey had zoned in on killing Soma with its claws, which gave Soma enough time to dodge it and attack back.

Unlike the other machines in the tutorial, this beast was half-organic.

The idea did not make sense, but Soma was thankful for the interruption when his sword cut through the beast's leg and injured it.

Red blood flew out of the wound before the icy mana sealed it.

The damage had been done already.

-Cluckkk cluckkkk

The Turkey let out angry sounds and raised its injured leg. It did not make any further attempts to approach Soma.

"Hey, birdy, let's play. I bet I can restrict your moments properly now."

Soma tried to tick off the turkey, but it was being patient with him now.

-Cluckkk

The turkey moved accurately toward Soma's stomach and almost managed to scratch his gut out with its sharp claws.

It was too bad for Turkey, but Soma managed to dodge it.

But Turkey was vigilant this time and prevented Soma's sword from injuring it.

Soma turned his target from the part he was trying to injure to the actual injury of the Turkey.

Black fire caused the turkey's injury to worsen, and it instantly let Soma go.

That allowed him to dig a dagger deeper into the Turkey and pull his sword out.

With both legs injured, Turkey had no choice but to step back.

It flapped its wings and instantly flew upwards.

If Soma had as much control over the strings as he did before his regression, he would have woven a net and brought Turkey to its knees.

Blades made up of wind came flying at Soma again, but the aim was poor.

The bird was in too much pain to notice that half of its attacks were off-centric and out of focus.

Soma had an easier time fighting the hurt turkey, and he could also get close because Turkey was too distracted by pain to stop him.

His sword cut through the tender leg, and Soma lit a fire across the other leg.
