Chapter 3 - Ch 3: The first tutorial [pt1]

[Congrulations on killing a zombie. Achievement: The first kill. +3 strength points]

[Congrulations for being the first one to kill a zombie. +3 free points achieved.]

[+100 coins have been awarded to you.]

Soma looked at this system screen with a satisfied look.

His starting stats looked pathetic compared to before, but it was a nice start for him.

"Y-You killed it! You killed the human! What do you think-!"

An old lady yelled, trying to make Soma feel guilty.

But all Soma did was push a bag filled with weapons toward her.

"I killed a zombie, and you will kill a zombie as well if you want to survive. Here, use these weapons if you want to live."

Soma dropped one of the bags he had managed to carry, and people began to run toward it.

Those who hesitated were instantly killed off.

Seeing other humans die like this caused the remaining humans to turn toward the bag and reach for it quickly.

"Give that bag here. I was here first!"

"No, give it here. I should get this bag first."

People continued to argue over the bag, wanting to secure a weapon for themselves.

Meanwhile, Soma used this opportunity to kill the zombies and disappear from the crowd.

Those who wanted to survive would find a way.

Right now, Soma had a mission: to unlock the shop.

There was a skill that Soma needed if he wanted to achieve the highest achievement and gather enough points to buy what he needed.

-Stab

-Slash

Killing the zombies was a hard chore, but every kill made Soma stronger than before.

Still, it was pathetic how it took him two hours and nearly ten zombies to hit level 5.

His stats had doubled, except for skill and luck.

Soma quickly closed his stat window so that he did not have to feel depressed over his empty skill slot.

He had slaved day and night to acquire his skills in his past life, and it had all been erased.

'Don't feel depressed. I will get my skills back soon.'

Soma breathed a deep sigh and then looked at his screen.

He had about 1000 coins, so it was time to hit the shop and buy what he needed.

"Open the shop menu. I want to buy something from it."

Soma called out to the shopkeeper on the floor.

Soon, a tiny fairy appeared before his eyes and buzzed around.

"Who are you? How did you know about the shop? You are a human, right? We have not told humans about this feature of the shop before."

The shopkeeper looked shocked as soon as it was summoned.

That buzzing sound was still irritating, making Soma want to swat the bug-like fairy.

"Never mind how I knew about the shop. I want to buy something from you. Show me all the skills you have."

Soma commanded, causing the small fairy to stop buzzing.

"You want…to buy something? You don't want me to take you home?"

Soma looked at the chatty bug-fairy in front of him.

"Can you even do that? Do you have enough energy to return the earth to its original state?"

The fairy remained quiet, all the amusement draining out of its eyes now.

"Hump! Rude human! Hurry up and take what you need."

The fairy cursed, but Soma had already stopped paying attention to her.

Instead, he was already browsing through the section of the shop.

He passed a lot of skills that looked useful on the surface but would soon become useless.

"This one. I want this skill."

Some pointed at the skill 'Mind's eye.'

"You want that useless skill? There are so many more useful skills for you to choose from. But are you sure you want to choose this skill?"

The tiny fairy asked, but Soma had already made up his mind.

This skill was necessary if he wanted to gain his power faster since this was the only skill in the tower that allowed one to see the flow of mana.

This skill was only available during the first tutorial, and Soma regretted not taking it the first time around.

There were so many times this skill would have come in handy.

"I want to confirm this purchase. Also, I want to buy swift steps with the remaining money."

The fair shopkeeper looked baffled but decided not to question Soma.

"Alright. Your purchase is complete. Do let me know if I can do anything else for you."

The fair disappeared in a cheerful voice, and Soma had the skills he needed.

There was no time to waste, and he needed to hurry up and do what he was tasked.

"Alright, I achieved the first part of my plan. I only need to get a few points before the second round starts. I have about 18 hours left."

Soma jumped to the top of the tallest building and looked down.

All the streets looked infected with zombies, and new ones were created every second.

Soma needed a quick and fast way to get as many zombies as possible.

"I am lucky that the company managed to ship all the salt I ordered beside the dam. Now, all I need to do is to break it down and flood the area."

It was regretful that Soma's idea would cause irreversible damage to the area, but the earth would not survive the tutorial anyway, so it did not matter.

"I should feel sad for the amount of lives I am going to take here, but I cannot feel anything right now. I am feeling rather numb after seeing all this death."

Soma pressed the button, and the explosives on the dam wall blew up.

Money was a medium that could buy everything; this was the most significant proof of that statement.

Water rushed down the street, causing the salt to dissolve in it.

The zombies died the second this salt-tinted water touched their skin.

[Congrulations: You have killed 100 Zombies. An additional 100 Coins have been awarded to you. You have levelled up]

[Congrulations: You have killed 1000 Zombies. An additional 500 Coins have been awarded for your effort. You have levelled up]

[Congrulations: You have killed 5000 Zombies. You have gained the title of 'Zombie Slayer.']

Killing efficiency against the unread will increase by 50%. An additional 1000 Coins have been awarded. Additional +5 free stat points]

This was more than Soma had expected to get for the first tutorial, but he could not say that he was dissatisfied with the results.

Those free stat points were precious; Soma needed to utilise them all in skills.

Skill stats could not be raised normally, so the most efficient way to increase them was to get free stat points or win hidden competitions for a reward.

"Should I use all my stat points right now? No! I should wait a little bit more."

Soma concluded as he looked down.

The water had stopped rushing through the city, but the level was still high.

The water level would take more than half a day to decrease, and that was also the time required for the first exam to be over.

"Hey, shopkeeper, I want to buy more skills. Are you there?"

Soma called out, and the small fairy returned with a sour look.

"What do you want? I got scolded because of you and -"

Soma caught the annoying fairy before it could annoy him anymore.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

The fairy asked, but Soma ignored her complaint.

With the fairy held in one hand, Soma quickly looked at his stat screen with a severe look.

The weapon Soma had started with was not in the shop, and it would never be.

Soma had painstakingly created that weapon with the help of his friend.

In the end, that weapon had to be given up as well.

"Hey, I want a sword. Let me see…this one shall do."

Soma tried hard not to flinch at the 2000-point price tag on the sword.

But this was the only sword worthy to buy at this stage.

"Ice Jewel? You have a discrete eye for treasure, my dear sir. This is the most excellent sword we currently have and-"

Soma paid and turned around, causing the shopkeeper fairy to look annoyed.

"Hey! I am not done talking."

The fairy complained, but Soma ignored it even harder.

Finally, the fairy is fed up and decides to play a prank.

A small ball of fairy pollen fell on Soma's head, and it would cause monsters to be attracted to him.

"Hehehe, let's see how you like being attacked by the monsters."

The fairy giggled, knowing it would not get in trouble once Soma died in the next round.

Soma also reached out to check the fairy power, but he had a small smile on his face.

'Finally, that fairy decided to be of use. I was sure that I would have to abuse her for this curse.'
