Chapter 13 - Dreaded Discussion

Harry read the letter. He had almost forgotten about that discussion he promised Dumbledore. He started to think that he should just quietly obliviate Dumbledore, it would be much easier than having to explain everything. How would he explain that he is from a different world? And even if he manages to do so, Dumbledore wouldn't stop until he has gotten every single detail out of him. Dumbledore is a good man, but he is controlling, there is no denying that.

All these thoughts running up his head made the prospect of the meal quite un appealing now. Harry didn't realise that he had almost stopped moving with that note clutched in his hand until Ron reached over the table and shook him. Apparently he had been calling him for a while.

Harry shook his head to clear the thoughts. He would deal with it when he needed to. Now is feasting time. With that Harry helped himself to the delicious spread in front of him. After the last morsel of pumpkin pie that disappeared from the plates. Professor Dumbledore got to his feet again, and the hall went completely silent.

"Ahem — just a few more words now that we are all fed and watered. I have a few start-of-term notices to give you.

"First years should note that the forest on the grounds is forbidden to all pupils. And a few of our older students would do well to remember that as well." Dumbledore's twinkling eyes flashed in the direction of the Weasley twins.

"I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridors."

"Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of the term. Anyone interested in playing for their House teams should contact Madam Hooch."

"And finally, I must tell you that this year, the third-floor corridor on the right-hand side is out of bounds to everyone who does not wish to die a very painful death."

Harry thought about this, what could it be, then he remembered about the sorcerer stone, which was being kept at Hogwarts right now. Well that made sense then. But there is no way he would stay out of the forbidden forest. The forest was one of the reasons he had come to Hogwarts.

"And now, before we go to bed, let us sing the school song!" cried Dumbledore. Harry noticed that the other teachers' smiles had become rather fixed. After the everyone sang the song, the prefects started showing the first years to their respective common rooms. Harry told Percy that he has to wait as Dumbledore wanted to talk with him. At this Percy nodded and led the other first years to Gryffindor tower.

As everyone left, Harry heard his name.

"Harry! How have you been?", Dumbledore beamed at him.

"I have been good sir, pretty excited to come here to be honest"

"Yes, I could sense your excitement earlier", Dumbledore smiled.

"Now on to more important matters. Why don't we go to my office for a small talk"

'Sure sir"

Dumbledore took Harry out of the Great Hall and into the entrance hall. He stood in front of the Stone Gargoyle, "Lemon Sherbet", at once the gargoyle sprang aside revealing a spiral staircase.

"Follow me Harry", Dumbledore said as he started climbing the staircase. Harry followed as they made their way to Dumbledore's office. It was located in the Headmaster's Tower. Soon they came to a door which Dumbledore opened and entered revealing a circular room.

The room seems to have a life of its own at night. The tapestries on the walls shimmer with a subdued luminescence, their intricate details casting fleeting shadows as Harry moves deeper into the space. The distant hooting of owls and the occasional rustle of leaves outside add to the nocturnal atmosphere.

Dumbledore's desk, now illuminated by the warm flicker of candles and the glow of magical instruments, stands as a silent witness to the wizard's nightly endeavors. The Sorting Hat, perched nearby, seems to take on an enigmatic air in the dim light.

The fireplace crackles with an inviting warmth, and a majestic phoenix Fawkes, bathed the room in a soft, ethereal glow. The colors of Fawkes' plumage appear even more vivid against the backdrop of the night. As Harry gazes out of the tall windows, the moonlight bathes Hogwarts' grounds in an otherworldly silver glow. The room, with its array of magical artifacts and the timeless portraits that seem to stir with every draft, becomes a haven of both enchantment and quiet contemplation.

It was by far the most interesting room Harry had ever seen. His eyes glided over everything, trying to take in the room in it's whole. Harry had such a excited expression on his face that it caused Dumbledore to smile, when he had turned back to look at Harry.

"Well then Harry. I believe you promised me a discussion"

Harry sighed, there is no way he could get out of this any other way. He had to tell him. But should he tell him the truth? Or should he come up with a complicated lie that would be hard for even Dumbledore to point out. What a precarious situation he had gotten himself in.

"Well let's just take a sit first", Dumbledore said to Harry pointing to the chair in front of the desk. Dumbledore himself took the other chair as Harry sat down in the pointed chair. Then Harry remembered a word and he internally smiled. He could get out of this situation after all.

"Now Harry, would you mind telling me how you came across the news about Pettigrew?"

"Well sir, the entire thing is also very confusing to me as well. It happened around 2 months ago I would say. I went to bed and I had a nightmare. I was not exactly scary but I could just hear a woman screaming and then a flash of green light."

At this Dumbledore made a sudden movement, as if to grab Harry's hand but decided against it.

"After a while I understood what I saw. I saw Voldemort murdering my mom, because she was standing in front of me."

"The dream continued for some nights. It was always the same, my mom screaming and a flash of green light and then I would wake up. But after about week, I had the same dream, but this time I didn't wake up. I saw my mom and dad in front of me. I knew it was them from the numerous photos, mum Petunia had showed me"

Dumbledore raised his eyebrow. Harry had just called Petunia mum. He was sure Petunia would have been overjoyed about that, but Harry voluntarily calling her mum is something he thought was interesting.

Harry continued, " They greeted me, hugged and kissed me while telling me that they love me. They said they were sorry for leaving me.". A tear left Harry's eyes as he remembered his actual parents death in his previous life.

"They said that they hope Sirius was taking good care of me. It was then I had told them that he was in Azkaban for betraying them. They looked confused and told me everything. How Sirius had convinced them to change the secret keeper to Pettigrew at the last moment. How they found out that Pettigrew had betrayed them. How Sirius had gone after Pettigrew. How Pettigrew had blown up the entire street and disappeared. This shocked me because this all happened after their deaths. I asked them how they knew about it when it had happened after their death."

"They told me that they could see it, as they had not crossed over yet. But they couldn't tell anyone. Even their visit that time had been arranged by a god with much difficulty.", Harry said.

Dumbledore was shocked. A god? Did Harry just say a god? There were gods in this world? How come no books mention it? How come he had never come across such a situation before?

"They also said that it would be hard to believe what they said. They also said that the god had blessed me in some way for some reason they couldn't tell me. They only said that I will have an important role in the future. Before they could tell me more they vanished and I have not seen them again"

Harry finished and looked at the Headmaster. He was looking at Harry with a peculiar gaze. He was trying to determine the truth. Harry waited.

"That is a very rare and interesting incident to experience Harry. And I believe your mastery of magic started after that dream?"

"Yes sir, after having that dream, I felt more attuned with my magic. Whatever I read, I instinctively got it. I only had to keep a clear conscious and direct my thoughts, my magical energy seemed to do the rest on his own. Since I could do that, I was very excited and I ended up learning pretty much everything I could get my hands on"

Dumbledore sighed. This was a very confusing and weird occurrence to him. He didn't want to believe Harry's words but nothing else could justify his magical prowess at this moment. And given Ollivander's letter about Harry's wand, it was not possible unless greater powers were at play.

"I see Harry. May I see your wand?"

Harry was taken aback. He didn't think Mr. Ollivander would have told Dumbledore about it. He reluctantly held out Elythral towards Dumbledore.

The wand was emitting a very warm glow. It had ancient runes engraved on it. Dumbledore wanted to touch the wand and check it out, but from Ollivanders letter he had come to know that if he did so, he might possibly die. So he just looked at it, trying to figure it out. After about 5 minutes of studying the wand Dumbledore thanked Harry and sent him off.
