Chapter 3 - chapter 2: Tale of a Hero [II]

"What sinners shall I punish?" the monster asked in a deep ominous voice as he crouched behind Mr. Yamamoto.

"…you all know what will happen, right?" he asked as he gave a strong glare.

"Of course, sir, we won't dream of it," Daichi said nervously, while the remaining students and officials trembled in fear.

"That's good to hear," he said to them, "Alright, you can leave now, your presence is not required," he said to the monster, but the monster refused to leave and stood there.

"Are you defying me?" he glared at the monster, but the monster stood there seeming to glare back at its master.

"Your time will soon come, now leave!" he commanded

"As you wish" the monster begrudgingly said as he vanished into the shadow.

All the party present gave a sigh of relief as they saw the monster had gone.

'What was that all about? he's been acting up a lot lately, I must be losing my touch' he glanced down at his scarred palm 'but more importantly, how is it possible for someone to be born without a spark essence, it hasn't been recorded in over 100 years, I wonder, what will become of that boy?' he thought with a grim expression.

Shiro walked home, thinking of all that had happened

'I can't believe I really have no spark essence, so much for becoming a hero, this is not fair' he thought as he entered an abandoned building, walked up the stairs to the rooftop, and stood at the edge of the building.

'Maybe they're right, I am worthless, I don't deserve to live' he thought as he looked down and then up.

Then he threw himself off the building, He closed his eyes to brace for impart, when suddenly he noticed he had stopped, then he was being carried back up.

"What the…" he said as he opened his eyes to see what had happened, he realized he was being held up by something or more accurately, someone, he looked up to see who it was.

"S…SS…SEN…SENTINEL!" he said in shock as he saw the number 3 hero of Japan, carrying him back to the roof.

"Sentinel, wha…how are you here?" Shiro asked in total shock

Sentinel ignored the young man's question and asked "Are you alright?"

After a moment to get his bearings, he stuttered a response "Y-yeah sure"

"That's good to hear kid" Sentinel responded

Sentinel, the number 3 hero in Japan was a man with black short hair and blue eyes, he also had a stubble beard, and muscular body structure, dressed in a navy-blue jacket with white trim designs and white pants, and black boots.

"Though judging by what I think just happened, I'm not sure you really are alright" Sentinel added, leaning in a bit.

"I don't think you slipped kid, and judging by your expression just now and the redness of your eyes, I'd say you've been crying," Sentinel asked, hitting the nail on the head.

Shiro avoided his gaze as his gloomy expression returned once more.

"No, I… I… really did jump off on my own" he said.

"But why?" Sentinel asked seriously. Shiro squeezes his fist in frustration as he starts to cry.

"It's because I have no spark essence!" he snapped.

Sentinel was quiet after that revelation, slightly shocked initially but eventually schooling his facial expression. "I see," Sentinel said eventually.

"Sentinel, can I become a hero, just like you?" Shiro asked Sentinel as tears streamed from his eyes.

"Even though I have no spark essence" Shiro added.

Sentinel stares at Shiro for a while, closing his eyes before responding.

*Sigh* "I'm sorry kid, but that's not possible," Sentinel said seriously.
