Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Arrival/Meeting With The Mysterious Mathematician

Hermaeus disembarks from the train as he was now in the open platform. The elegant station that was well lit feels like a safe haven from the dreadful and ominous for staring at him from the outside, the air was cold compared to the spring warmth he had when he was on the train.

He quickly controls his sense of dread made by this strange phenomena, and then ganders at the station, pulling up the picture taken by his friend of this strange mathematician, a professor of mathematics and science and yet he was a detective beforehand.

The image of the man was easy to distinguish, slim face, strong jawline and a well trimmed goatee with some stubble, his hair tied into a ponytail with some bangs, he seemed to be human still looking quite young despite his age, perhaps his lineage has a spot of dragon blood within.

He heads towards the eastern exit, stopping along the way to buy a cold medicinal drink from one of the stalls, swigging it down as he carries his case before finally seeing the man that he kept in mind "Mister Romaine? I'm Hermaeus Dawnbringer, Certified Private Detective."

Fredrick Romaine inquires politely, a straight face remaining "a pleasure, sir. I'm glad you came with haste. How was your trip?"

"It went well, my dear fellow, very well indeed." Hermaeus takes a second to take in some details while tossing the bottle into a bin next to him.

Bandage on one hand? It was bloodied on the bottom and top, meaning his hand was punctured, thin enough to be either a knife or sword wound.

Well dressed with various gold pieces of jewellery? He is paid well, incredibly so. The gold was still incredibly polished and there was barely any scratches.

He has a ruler, with a rather ergonomic handle on the end... This man was no detective and nor was he a mathematician...

His stance, always battle stanced? he's an expert swordsman that became a detective but lacked his divine blade. Stolen perhaps, maybe taken by law or force.

Hermaeus' eyes met the secret swordsmans eyes who was glancing back and then the swordsman mentions "You already know my secret, don't you..."

Hermaeus nods with a smirk "Observance, my dear fellow. It would change the world as quick as I would solve a case."

Fredrick Argaius Romaine, had rather imposing stature and muscle but yet he was smart and observant but quiet. He then states "Shall we get a carriage?"

The detective nods, tipping his hat in gratitude. They quickly leave the station, footfalls echoing down the stone steps and onto the pavement. The city had double decker trams rushing through the streets. The evening was quite busy and the fog quite dense.

Hermaeus looks up to see the airships gloriously floating above them, he takes in the city, prepared to take in what it has to offer.

People, centaurs and other creatures alike were pouring from the station and entering it as Hermaeus waits beside the secretive professor who quickly waved down a carriage which promptly stops. Romaine gave the carriage master a few pounds "Take us to 52 Lords Way, Sir."

The carriage master tips his hat to the gentlemen, not saying a word. Hemaeus and Romaine embark into the back of the carriage once the case was put away into the trunk and then they were on their way.

While sitting in the elegant carriage, Fredrick asks "So, Dawnbringer... What do you think of the situation we're in right now as described in the letter?"

"Fascinating, my dear fellow... incredibly so, to the point that I wish to pursue an answer to you and your friends questions while helping out an old friend in need." Hermaeus answers swiftly, looking out the window, seeing the passing carriages and lit up windows in the thick fog.

Freddy then says "You hold a lot of power, considering you are an authorised member of the Imperial Detective's Bureau."

He smirks, his chin resting on his hand, as he keeps gazing out the window "that I do, but I already know your question, even before you say it... We can't involve the police or military just yet. As much as I am an old friend of Cu Chulainn and he being an Imperial General and could get him to overrun this place in a few days as soon as a letter reaches his hands, this situation requires more tenderness that you may think."

"Why is that, Mister Dawnbringer?" Fredrick curiously asks.

"We're probably dealing something far more powerful than we assume. A cult or 'Heretical' practice of some sorts. What if they summon some sort of old god?" Hermaeus poses to Fredrick. The human looked over to meet the gaze of Hermaeus and raises his brows.

"Wait, you think this might be something to do with... an old god cult?" the professor replies with a look of dread.

"Indeed, my good man. Not too far fetched as an idea?" the elf raises a brow as he strokes his chin, the stubble making a bristling sound.

"No... not for our world, not really," He shakes his head.

"Mmm... tell me... I believe a few months before the fog, I believe an artefact went missing from the 'Cult of Lemorza' exhibition... a Ruby Dagger that belong to a priest from thousands of years ago?"

"Indeed, I was one of the assisting detectives at the scene," Freddy replied swiftly, coughing a little.

"mayhap we should head to the museum in the morning... I wish to use my magic to maybe find out what happened." Hermaeus raises to Fredrick, who nods in agreement.

The horses tread along the cobbles, making turns as Hermaeus sinks back, covering his face with his hat, napping for the meantime until they arrived at the house his close friend was staying.
