Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Game (I)

Our game is pretty simple and we have two winning conditions. Either tag out the entire team or capture their base.

We have two teams, which are my team and Joriel's team. Each team would find a large object and declare it as their base. An example would be a lamp post or a mailbox or anything that can serve as a base of sorts.

This base is important as the team who owns the base must touch the base before he can capture someone from the other team. The captured people would also need to hold onto the base.

As for how people can be captured, it's also simple. They just need to tag a person from the enemy team. But, they can only tag someone who haven't touched their base after they left the base.

It is like this: If A left base and he ran to go retrieve his teammate, Enemy B could capture A as he left his base after A. Similarly, Ally C could capture B as he left the base after B.

As for the captured person, they need to touch the enemy base or else they won't be retrieved by their ally.

"No dangle right?"

(A/N: I suck at descriptions fr, anyway dangle is a mechanic of the game. It's a mechanic about captured players, if their ally tag just one of the captured players then anyone connected to him would be freed too. It's a mechanic that can save the game, more so if almost all people were captured.)

"Yeah!"

Regan smiled and was fired up. Even though dangle was not in the game now, this could end up in their advantage. Drix is a fast runner and this would make him capture more people. Although it could also disadvantage them a bit, he's that they'd win for sure.

They chose a lamp post as their base while Joriel's team picked a mango tree. As soon as Drix saw this, he chuckled inwardly. Picking a huge base has its advantages and disadvantages.

The two bases were about 20 meters apart from each other, with enough space to maneuver around.

As soon as they picked their bases, the leaders of the two teams — Joriel and Chris — went and met at the center. Chris then looked at Irish and smirked before asking Joriel a question.

"How far can we go away or is there no restriction?"

Joriel already knew that they would ask this. He laughed to himself inwardly as he already knew that they would send someone away as soon as the round starts so that he could go encircle him and try to capture their base. This is as expected.

"No limits. Go as far as you can... that is if you don't get tagged."

"We'll see. Same rules. If all players stayed at base for 2 minutes, those with the higher captured players wins."

"Yeah, same rules. We'll crush you and make you poor as fuck. Hehehe."

Chris then pulled out a one peso coin out of his pocket and showed it to Joriel.

"I'll throw the coin. As soon as it drops, the game starts. Good?"

"Game! HAHAHA!"

The two leaders went back to their bases and all players readied themselves. They looked at each other fiercely, with some even acting cool like Regan licking his lips.

Chris then raised the coin in his hand to show it to the other team. Then he flicked the coin upwards. They all watched the coin midair with suspense, their legs tensed and ready to run.

*cling*

As soon as the coin dropped, Drix left immediately and ran up to Joriel's base. As soon as he did, Joriel's teammates immediately tried to surround him and capture him.

But their efforts were futile as Drix outmaneuvered them as always and he ran off away. Seeing this, Joriel immediately sent one of his teammates to run after him.

"Hm... Drix left first so he'll be captured if that guy catches up. Stay here and defend our base Irish, the three of us will go on the offense."

After Drix and Joriel's teammate who ran after him left, Joriel's other teammates also scattered around seemingly planning to encircle them. So Chris and the other two immediately took action and ran off to capture them.

"Aren't you all idiots?! Thank you for giving us an advantage dickheads!"

Regan shouted as he ran after the one who seemingly tried to hide on a bush. As soon as he saw Regan running after him like a rabid dog, he ran off as fast as he can back to their base.

"Trying to run? No way!"

"Look out Regan! Come back!"

"Huh?"

Regan was suddenly confused by Chris's call-out and he tried to look behind him. It was Joriel who left the base suddenly and he's only a few meters away from him.

"OH SHIT!"

Regan tried to stop and smoke and dust were riled up from his sudden brake. He almost fell down. But he exerted himself to run back to the base.

Joriel was right behind him and he felt pressured by his presence. But his face lit up when he saw that Irish switched up with Chris and ran forward to them. This made Joriel click his tongue and immediately retreat.

As soon as Regan arrived, he slumped on the cold hard floor to rest as he panted hard like a pig.

"Fuck, how can that shorty run so fast?! Shouldn't he be slower because his steps are tinier?"

Mike beside him rolled his eyes and thought that this guy was definitely an idiot. Being shorter doesn't exactly mean you will run slower in his eyes.

Soon, the game went into a stalemate after a few minutes. With both teams trying to bait each other out and capture someone from the enemy team.

"This is getting annoying."

Chris scratched his head as he watched Irish and one of Joriel's teammates go at each other. Mike then grabbed the opportunity when the enemy got closer to their base and sprinted off to him.

As soon as the guy saw Mike, he frantically turned and he was turned into the one being chased. Then when Mike couldn't catch him and he got closer to the enemy base, an enemy player sprinted off their base and their roles then reversed.

This has been happening for a few minutes now leading to Chris not being able to tolerate the current situation anymore. Seeing him like this, Irish chuckled and patted Chris's shoulders to assure him.

"Don't worry, Chris. Let's just try to catch some here... our winning bet is on Drix."
