Chapter 9 - Season 2 chapter 3: heat mode

After parting ways with Sin, the members of the Scarface gang were scattered across the court, some engrossed in workouts, others engrossed in a game of basketball. "Hey, Travis," Bobby called out, dribbling the basketball between his legs as he took a seat, his eyes on Travis who was engrossed in a card game. "What is it?" Travis responded, his expression serious as he took a drag from his cigarette. "You once mentioned losing a fight to a gang we now control. How did you turn the tables?"

Travis exhaled a cloud of smoke, his attention still on his cards. "Sometimes, losing a fight can be a strategic move. It allows one to channel their self-loathing, anger, and other negative emotions, pushing their body to its limits," he explained.

Bobby smirked, intrigued. "And how did it feel when you did it?"

Travis paused, his eyes flicking up from his cards to meet Bobby's gaze. He took a long drag from his cigarette, the ember glowing brightly in the dim light. "Fear," he finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Fear and desperation. But also... a sense of self hate."

"Self fate?" Bobby echoed, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah," Travis nodded, his gaze returning to his cards. "When you're pushed to the edge, when you've got nothing left to lose... that's when you're truly free. Free to do whatever it takes to survive, to win. It's a terrifying feeling, but it's also... exhilarating."

Bobby was silent for a moment, processing Travis's words. He then gave a slow nod, a newfound respect in his eyes. "I see," he said, dribbling the basketball thoughtfully. "I guess there's more to fighting than just throwing punches, huh?"

Travis gave a small, wry smile. "You could say that, yeah." Their conversation was interrupted by a sudden commotion. A body flew overhead, crashing into a pile of weights with a loud thud. "AHHH!" The man yelled, clutching his body in pain. "What happened?!" Bobby yelled as he and Travis rushed over. "Was it the leader?!" Travis asked, shaking the man. "N-no, h-he's still in Arkham. This is the work of that boy," the man stammered, pointing shakily behind him. Travis and Bobby turned around to see Sin, holding two of his men, his head bowed, a sinister smile on his face.

The sight of Sin sent a chill down their spines. His eyes were cold and devoid of any emotion, a stark contrast to the sinister smile that was plastered on his face. He dropped the two men he was holding like they were nothing more than rag dolls. They hit the ground with a thud, groaning in pain.

"Sin," Travis called out, his voice steady despite the unease he felt. "What the hell are you doing?"

Sin's smile widened, but he didn't respond. Instead, he turned his back to them and started walking away, leaving the injured men behind.

"Hey!" Bobby shouted, running after him. "You can't just walk away!" He then groaned and fell to his knees, as he felt a strong foot strike into his chest. "I wasn't walking away, you dumbass," Sin retorted with a maniacal laugh. "Hey Travis, how's it been? Even though we just saw each other."

Sin launched himself at Travis who stood there with a straight face. He finally smirked as he yelled. "Copycat!" Out of nowhere, Sin was kicked into a wall and as the dust settled, Teddy stood over him. "Fake hero," he muttered, clenching his fist. Thinking Sin was knocked out, Teddy turned around and walked away. He then heard Sin's voice behind him and turned back around. "Ouch, that seemed incredibly familiar. Hey Theodore, don't tell me. You can copy attacks?" Sin asked, leaning against the wall with a maniacal smile. He then kicked off of the wall and launched himself at Teddy. "Yeah, I am," Teddy said, kicking Sin with invisible attacks but they weren't fast enough to be invisible. "Gah!" Sin screamed out. "Why don't you just fall? Is it because you wanna save him? You think Teddy is gonna fall for you and you'll walk into the sunset all because you were his hero?" Travis said while smoking a cigarette. "See, I first heard of Teddy when he first got locked up and beat up half of my gang. There was something up with his movements, he had copied them from numerous people he'd fought off when he did prostitution. He even copied me when we fought, well I'll stop talking and let him kill you now," he smirked, watching the fight unfold.

Sin felt a hand on his head from Teddy doing a handstand on his head similar to his move. "So he's a copycat?" Sin muttered and Teddy kicked him. "So what?" He grabbed Teddy's foot and slammed him on the ground. "You can be a copycat all you want, but if you wanna do my moves, you need to have the perfect body, which I don't have right now so I'm just taking advantage of this 'Ultra Instinct'," he said, jumping on Teddy's back. "AHH!" Teddy screamed. "Come on, copy this!" Sin yelled, kicking Teddy's back repeatedly until he was knocked unconscious.

Travis' face turned from calm to rage in a second as he stood up and removed his shirt. Under his shirt he had a bunch of tubes similar to the ones that 'Bane' has. "You motherfucker, so you think you're bane or something huh? He chuckled but in a flash Travis launched at him and punched him through 5 different walls of the jail. "That's exactly it." Travis said while walking towards him. "His successor."
