Lisa looked at Arlen, "Probably because the woman lied to him." She smacked her lips, and her eyes were a reminiscent light, "I wish that I had taken the video. It would have been viral, Captain was so handsome when he was arresting them. I would have gotten a lot of money."
Ravi stopped listening. He looked through the glass window where Arlen's attention was captured by the laptop on his table, his lashes lowered in concentration. What was on the laptop that he was looking at? Did he really pay this much attention to every single case that comes into his lap? Why did he not want them to forward the case to the Financial Fraud Unit? Did he know that it was not a simple money disappearance but a gambling case?
He furrowed his borrows, his head pounding a bit. He did not like thinking and solving mysteries.
He looked at the empty holding cells and something came to his mind, "Where are the gamblers that you said that you guys arrested?"
Lisa was pressing her phone with her legs crossed, "We let them go."
"Captain Sinclair let them go? Why?"
"We did not have enough space to hold them all. And most of them were old people."
Ravi's face twitched, "So he just let them go?" He was confused. Why? Why?
"He had already gotten what he wanted from them."
Ravi rubbed his brows, "Officer Johnson, did you leave your mother's womb in parts? Did you want to make this a series?"
Lisa laughed loudly to his amazement, he had not been telling a joke.
"Okay, I will stop teasing you. We arrested them and those who were there yesterday quickly gave up information, we got two things after cross-checking their confession. Mrs Parker won 10,000 dollars yesterday in the gambling room. We also got the mastermind of the gambling/laundry room. He is stewing in the interrogation room, Officer Adams is watching him."
Ravi blinked. 10,000 dollars. If he should get that kind of money, he would be retiring the next day. They had really gotten a lot in one night, no wonder Draco was slumped over like a dead fish. So, the old woman had won 10,000 dollars, did the Gambling room trick her or was it something else? Did she make some enemies in the gambling room and the person took the opportunity to clear her entire money?
The person who had taken the money was definitely familiar though. Old people are not the prime targets of robbery. Maybe he was wrong though.
He was a little curious.
"I am back!" Sergeant John shouted as he entered through the doors, raising an envelope up while breathing quickly. Draco who was napping, snapped his head up and the Captain stepped out of his office.
Lisa stood up and Ravis followed her while wondering what was in the brown envelope.
"So quickly."
" It is 8:34 a.m." Draco checked the time. The old Sergeant looked at the Captain and passed him their envelope in both hands.
Arlen nodded, taking the envelope and moving to the whiteboard that they had never really used. Draco moved closer and whispered, "The judge gave it to you like that."
Sergeant John nodded, his eyes filled with even more awe than before, "That Judge Morin that had never given the Chief face, he was there in his office by 7;30 am."
At this, Ravi raised a brow, The judge was known to be insanely late, and Ravi hated dealing with him.
"Big thigh."
Lisa muttered and Draco nodded like a chicken pecking food. Ravi had the urge to laugh.
The man was working hard and his subordinate was planning to hug his thigh.
Arlen turned back, his blue eyes looked down, "What is it? Hungry? I have already ordered some breakfast and coffee. Should I order some spicy crayfish? Or hotpot?"
"Captain? Is being an angel your superpower?" Lisa's voice was so soft that Ravi shuddered, making her glare at him.
Arlen just chuckled. He had been frowning all day and now he laughed, it was like the rainstorm over their office had cleared.
"I am afraid, my superpower is nothing so exaggerated."
He pulled out the white paper and placed it in the photocopy machine, printing five copies and passing it to them.
"I asked for a warrant to be able to access Mrs. Parker's statement of account for the past one year. Look through it and tell me what you all think?"
Ravi accepted the document. Mrs Parker already had over 3,000 dollars in her account, she received 700 dollars from her son every month, there were small expenditures but what was most noticeable was the withdrawal and the deposit.
Two days ago, she deposited 10,000 dollars from Kerry Laundry and in the next three hours, 13,789 dollars had been withdrawn from her account.
"It is not a round number. When people tend to withdraw from one's account, they would withdraw 13, 700 or 13, 780 dollars instead." Draco said as he looked at the Captain who nodded at him.
"They cleared everything. What human scum. Isn't it hatred, what would cause someone to do this thing to another person if not hatred? An old woman retirement fund."
Seeing the account with no single money, there was an odd feeling that filled one's chest, making them grit their teeth.
Lisa had always been like this. Once, she had caught the man who had been beating his wife and had handcuffed him before giving him the beating of his life. Ravi had looked away, aside from adjusting the man's atoms so that he would feel the pain of the beating for a very long time.
"Our scope of investigation has been narrowed." Captain Arlen drew the map on the board. "Mrs Parker won the money in the laundry room and stayed in the bar for over an hour. She claimed that she did not drink but we still need to investigate that. To verify if it is true." He drew a triangle on the map around the laundry room. Even if she walked for three hours, she would not have passed the geographical border he drew. If his instinct was right, he needed to find the preparator of this crime before they did so.
"We would need to check the surveillance of this entire area. I would go and get them now." Sergeant John said,
"I will go with Draco to get the records of the bar and ask around."
These brats. The office is quiet with just him and Arlen in the outer office. He could not leave like that and he had nothing to say.
Ravi nodded at him, "What should I do?"
"What do you think?"
