I have learnt a lot of things from the caretaker who has been at my beck and call. It's the first time in my twenty two years that I've felt loved, cared for and wanted not like how everyone deams me useless back at home.
My memory always flashes back when mom regretted the day I was born like " I wish I had aborted you because you're useless." This sentence pricks my heart that it has turned into my nightmare every night my head hits the pillow.
Sometimes I wonder,if she didn't want me in the first place and bring me in this world, why did she get involved in the monkey dance yet she didn't want the wagging tail to not get touchy with her and suffer the consequences.
I once read an article where a particular author wrote about the cry of an aborted baby. The moment she was conceived, her parents weren't not ready to become parents and embrace her to this beautiful world. She already felt the connection between the would be mother and her and couldn't wait to meet them but she wasn't given a chance to do so.
This saddened her as the would be mother became angry and nervous since she couldn't choose pregnancy over her flourishing career. She wasn't ready to babysit as she wasn't ready at all. The arrival of this baby would cause a disturbance in her celebrity life and ongoing career. Making the final decision, she decided to opt for abortion as away to put a stop to everything that could ruin her. The innocent soul was given a verdict without proper judgement. Fear and grief engulfed her small soul but couldn't do anything about it when the would be mother lay on the operating table to flash whatever was growing in her stomach. Never once did she feel guilty and remorseful for what she had done.
After the successful surgery, the remnants of the innocent soul saw how the doctor flashed her in trash like it was his daily meal. The lady continued with her career and finally met the man of her dreams who proposed to her and held a grand wedding. It was the talk of the town as tabloids showed how expensive the wedding was. People and fans blessed her complementing how she was a winner in life and love. But after their marriage things didn't remain the same as she couldn't get pregnant no matter what they did. Her marriage was on the verge of breakdown as her husband went after the housemaid who was young and beautiful.
But one night, she had a dream. A young toddler was wearing a white dress looking at her with her big round sparkling eyes. But there was something fascinating about her because she looked like herself when she was still a baby. The young toddler suddenly broke into tears which looked like pearls with blood all over her. She said in a chocked voice " mummy I wish you had chose and gave me a chance to see the beautiful world with you. Though you chose your career,I don't think that is worth it anymore and your marriage is crumbling. Because right now what you need is a child to save it but you can't anymore as you had only one ovary. I hope you don't regret what you did several years ago."
She suddenly vanished. The lady woke up from the terrifying dream with beads of sweat on her forehead. Tears of agony and guilty slid down her face. Memories of that eventful night came flashing back in her mind. She regretted being selfish because any material thing would get destroyed but the loved ones could always be besides you. She divorced her husband and lived in seclusion to repent for her sins. A knock on the door brought me back from the memories of that sad article.
Opening the door,I was shocked by what I saw. M- my long lost friend was in front of me wearing a white coat for doctors. Tears of joy slid down my face that had gained some fresh. But shame and embarrassment took control of my heart when I remembered that am useless and failure in life. I wanted the ground to open and disappear but she hugged me tightly like I was going to vanish.
Entering together,we sat on the big sized bed. She took the initiative to start the conversation because I was quite.
" Scarlet how have you been?, and for heaven's sake what made you end up in this hospital,is anywhere hurting ?" Ritah asked checking my wounds.
" Don't worry am fine but how did you get to find this ward, like how did know?" I asked her with a smile etched on my face.
" I was making rounds last night on the patients but got to see your silhouette at the balcony,at first I thought someone was committing suicide but when I got a clear glimpse of your face I quickly made my rounds to talk to you." I hugged Ritah when she narrated how she found out that it was me.
" So when are you discharged from the hospital? ,and are you planning to hide in the downtown again." Ritah asked me with sadness in her voice.
" No I wasn't hiding, but that's where we actually live with the family. Am planning on staying in this city but I don't have where to stay, and the main issue is the job that had brought me all the way here but met with an accident." I briefes Ritah on the upsidedowns of my miserable life.
" You don't have to worry about all that, what am I here for?,I think you might be discharged tomorrow and will go and make arrangements for you back at home. " Ritah reassured me with a gentle squeeze in my hands. I felt so blissful because earlier on though I planned on staying in this big city but I didn't know anyone.
At the commercial street of freedom city.
The magnificent building stood tall with it's black and white paint. This made people who bypassed the building to be wowed with how the architects designed it. It was like a pyramid. This building had more than a hundred floors with a thousands of employees working inside this magnificent building. At the top floor, it's where the CEOs office was located. Starting from furniture to all decorations everything was screaming money.
The man sitting in the swivel chair was smartly dressed but his eyes emitted only coldness . He had ruffled his hair pursuing his lips. His fingers moved with the rythm of the blue pen he was using to sign on various documents. Shifting his gaze, he observed the trend on the stock market before putting down his tablet. His personal assistant knocked on the door and he said, " come in" . His PA informed him about the scheduled meeting with Mr Robertson the CEO of prestige magazine. Nodding his head in acknowledgement,he ordered his PA to check someone's info because it was very crucial for him. The PA went to work on it before his boss gets moody like pregnant ladies with mood swings. He wonders if his boss was forbidden to smile for the rest of his life. Settling in his seat, he decided to mind his own business and finish the task at hand.
Lost in thought, Dave his buddy entered his office without knocking. Offering himself a drink, he sat down on the leather couch opposite Kevin who's gaze never left the documents he was signing.
" So what's up Kevin, by the way how's the overseas business doing cause I might bring a good proposal for you.". Dave asked while sipping his drink.
Putting down his pen, Kevin loosened his tie and leaned in his swivel chair.
" The business is all good but what I need is a perfect partner." Kevin said breaking the longish silence.
" Recently the tabloids are spreading rumors about you and Elizabeth,I thought she's just a business partner hmm." Dave broke the news flying around the whole freedom city.
" I didn't know that you've recently changed your hobby of flirting with girls but now you're part of the gossip team like those useless ladies." Kevin said standing up from his seat.
Arranging his suit,he grabbed his laptop and matched out of the office to attend the meeting leaving Dave sipping his white wine.
All the board members had already sat in their designated seats only waiting for the frosty CEO who never smiles. Entering the board room, all the murmurs and whispers stopped because the king of Hades had arrived. The long table was well arranged as everyone looked well organized. The top seat was meant for the CEO and after he sat down, his keen eyes started observing everyone in the board room. His cold gaze sent shivers down their spines.Mr Robertson brought the proposal at hand because the project was estimated to earn twenty billion dollars.
