Chapter 31 - A Part-Time Work Encounter

Kazuya just entered the classroom when Yuma came up to greet him, reaching out to take his backpack. He greeted with a smile, "Big brother, you're here."

Kazuya chuckled, "What's going on, Uchida? Why are you so polite today?"

Yuma smirked and scratched his head, "Big brother helped me avenage, so of course, I have to repay big brother properly!" He wiped the chair with his sleeve and hospitably said, "Big brother, please have a seat."

"Big brother, have a drink!"

"Big brother, are you hungry? Do you want me to go to buy you a sandwich?"

"Big brother, are you studying? It must be tough. Let me fan you..."

Kazuya feeling helpless, "I'm just solving my own problems?" He didn't want to deal with Yuma, and asked Shin, "Shin, I want to get a part-time job. Do you know if the school has any relevant regulations?"

"Part-time job?" Yuma was a chatterbox, never missing a chance to interrupt. He leaned over curiously, "What's the point of going to endure that boring thing?"

Kazuya just replied, "To earn some money." He had to put part-time work on the schedule after treating Haruna to seven bowls of ramen yesterday.

Yuma spoke without thinking, "Why not just have your family send you money?" He was about to continue when Shin suddenly pinched him, making him close his mouth in pain. "Are you trying to reduce the burden on your family?"

His voice was cautious and gentle, as if he had added three spoons of honey.

Kazuya nodded. He felt a bit embarrassed to ask for money from the parents of the original owner of this body, as if it was a strange betrayal, and he didn't even want to consider whether he had killed their child or not.

Shin's eyes became softer. However, being just a first-year high school student, he had no experience with part-time work and wasn't very familiar with these things. He said, "Our school seems to not be against part-time work, but I'm not very clear about the regulations... Should I ask the Student Council for you?"

Kazuya was surprised, "The Student Council still manages this?"

"Of course, the Student Council manages all student-related affairs. That's the purpose of their existence."

It sounded like an independent government. Kazuya said, "Okay, I'll go to the Student Council after school."

Shin's eyes carried anticipation, "Do you want me and Yuma to accompany you?"

"No need, Shin. I can handle it myself."

Shin looked a bit disappointed, "Alright! If you encounter any difficulties in life, don't hesitate to talk about it. We can think of a solution together."

He spoke somewhat cautiously, as if afraid of hurting Kazuya's pride. Kazuya lightly patted his shoulder, indicating that he understood. Shin was indeed a nice person.

It was time for class. Shin seemed reluctant to part and wanted to chat a few more words, but could only return to his seat. Kazuya wrote down the appointment to visit the Student Council in the afternoon in the reminders on his phone to avoid forgetting that and going home after getting dizzy from studying.

Part-time work was a necessity. He wanted to study for more than ten hours a day, but he didn't have the conditions. Some people are born to live without worries, while others have to rack their brains and work hard just to have three meals a day. Sometimes, even working hard all their lives might not be as good as those who are born in a privileged state.

Kazuya didn't want to waste any time and focused on listening to the class. Lost in his thoughts, he didn't feel much, and soon it was time to go home in the afternoon.

He said goodbye to Shin and Yuma who were going to participate in club activities, and went to the Student Council alone. A Student Council member welcomed him. She not only carefully explained the requirements for high school students to work part-time under the law and school regulations but also provided him with a part-time work authorization form and a recommended list of stores.

According to the law, students are allowed to work, and their income is protected by the state, enjoying public general work injury insurance. However, part-time work is restricted. Students are not allowed to enter the adult entertainment industry, such as karaoke, bars, nightclubs, and arcades (these are allowed only after entering university).

Time is also strictly limited, as students' main job is to study. The maximum is eight hours per week, but at Hope Peak Academy, part-time work is limited to twelve hours per week. However, the senior hinted, "It's hard to supervise, a little more or less is fine, as long as you ensure that your attendance at school is not affected. But if there is a obvious drop in test scores, the teacher has the right to prohibit further participation in part-time work."

As for the part-time work authorization form, it not only specifies the student's name, school, and class but also requires the employer to sign and stamp it when he arrives at the workplace. After getting it back, it should be submitted to the Student Council for filing. If unfair treatment occurs during part-time work, such as forced overtime, forced engagement in high-risk occupations, or unjustified deduction or withholding of wages, students can come to the Student Council for help. This is considered a protection for students.

Kazuya expressed his gratitude, took the documents, and left the Student Council. He stood at the door and flipped through the files in his hand. He focused on the recommended list of stores. There were hundreds of them, ranging from recruiting magazine models to weekend childcare at kindergartens. He took out a pen, crossed out those too far from his apartment and school, and unstable jobs, leaving nearly a hundred options. Then, he sorted them based on salary and distance, and set off on the journey of finding a job.

Kazuya's job search wasn't smooth. He prioritized the nearby area between his apartment and school for convenience. But after asking four or five places, he found that they were already full, perhaps because other students had similar thoughts.

However, he didn't give up and started heading to farther places, going to the adjacent district. This area was a commercial district with quite a few recommended part-time work locations. He chose a few with high hourly wages and asked a coffee shop first. Unfortunately, they were looking for a girl. Then, he tried a dessert shop, but he was too late and they had just hired someone yesterday. Finally, he stopped in front of an izakaya.

He looked up at the sign— "Pure Flavor House", lifted the curtain and walked in. It was still early and there were no customers in the store. Only a junior high school girl in her school uniform was wiping the tables. Upon hearing the sound, she turned around and bowed, "Welcome!"

"Hello!" Kazuya greeted with a slight bow, "Is the owner here?"

"Not at the moment. May I help you?" The junior high school girl carefully looked at Kazuya and felt that he wasn't just a customer. However, she had no special reaction. She continued to be polite and used respectful language.

Kazuya took out the form, "I heard that you're hiring. Here is my resume."

The junior high school girl put down the cloth and walked over. She accepted the form and looked at it, "I'm sorry; I haven't heard about hiring anyone. Actually, we're not planning to hire anyone temporarily..."

She glanced at the authorization form while speaking, her gaze freezing on Kazuya's name, quickly looking at the school and class. It turns out that the gigolo without any humanity is you!
