Chapter 17 - Novice Lycanthrope

[+1 Endurance]

There were 3 tests per rank up and it will be a lot harder than before. With increasing difficulty with every test. Lumiel can't go home yet as he wanted to take the tests and rank up to adept. He wanted to be adept before going home.

"I would like to take the 3 tests, sir," Lumiel said to the instructor.

"You will? Well, you can!" he said then readied himself.

"Okay, the first test will be handled immediately," he said.

The first test and Lumiel were slightly wasted. His stamina was slightly depleted from his past duel. He immediately rested on the bench inside and waited for the instructor's signal.

He drank water in their cafeteria and then rested a bit. His stamina soon was replenished.

"Lumiel, get ready as your ascension test will be upcoming,"

"Aye!"

He went outside again and then saw the number of students who failed. With grim expressions on their faces and disappointed looks.

The training field then was prepared for the duel. As for the instructor who will assess him. He was stronger than the newbie instructor. He was called a novice instructor for a reason. Though it was a starting rank, the instructors were competent and they will have a hard time passing.

"Ready now?" he said in a grumpy voice.

"Not yet sir,"

Lumiel then grabbed his wooden sword then readied for battle. The instructor then made preparations for the battle. He used Beast aura - green and his body emitted green mist. Covering himself with an aura and then shapeshifting into a werewolf.

Lumiel then was baffled and troubled. He was thinking about it, whether he will use the skill in turning into a werewolf or not. His skill will use 100% attack damage from the weapon and the damage will be the same.

As such, he has to think of the cool-down of the skill too, and the duration. He can't cast and recast skills like it was just nothing. He needs to be wise in using skills as his mana still did not possess regeneration yet as of now and his mana was limited.

He also needed to survive 3 tests and conserve his mana to last till the last test.

And so, he decided to not use skills without losing. And it will be a tad hard with his opponent who didn't plan to let him win easily.

"The first test will start now. Defeat me with all you got," the instructor said to him.

"Aye!"

They soon prepared to duel and with the signal, they dashed toward each other. With the instructor shapeshifting to a werewolf, he will have a higher attack speed compared to him.

The instructor then attacked him with his claws. Lumiel can only deflect the claws but his weapon was chipped with every blow. He will have to be careful in his attack and not brawl it out head or his weapon will get its durability lessened.

With the instructor slashing its claws, he tried to evade but the hem on his clothes was ripped off. His evades were just in hair's breadth and he was nearly clawed on the face.

'Damn it! My stats on Dexterity lacked greatly!' Lumiel cursed.

He didn't know that it was this hard already.

It was a stalemate already on Lumiel's side. He can't progress much longer with his current capabilities. He soon clicked his tongue and at least tried harder. At least he has to pass the first test.

The instructor then attacked him with his claws. Lumiel then didn't cower down and let his all out.

[Beast aura - green]

He turned into a werewolf and he attacked him. Clawing the instructor in the face. He just smirked and then retaliated with his claws. The two battered each other with their claws and sometimes bite.

The instructor then used the skill Bite and bit Lumiel on the shoulders.

Lumiel wailed and grabbed him on the neck with a choke. The instructor then loosened up his fangs and threw him to the ground with a slam.

The instructor nearly regretted biting him and coughing in the process. Lumiel then summoned his wolf and then attacked the instructor. He then slapped the wolf on the side with the back of his hands and then it whimpered.

Lumiel then clawed him again and again and the instructor also did the same. They chipped their health points and they battered each other for nearly a minute.

But as Lumiel observed it, his health points were nearly depleted. He will lose the battle if it went on as it was. Due to his neck being bitten, his health was lower this time. He immediately stepped back a little and then growled.

With greater risk this time, he has to evade each attack from his enemy. He attacked once again and he clawed. The instructor then slashed his right arm and Lumiel saw it. Evading the claw of his enemy with a side-step then retaliated with a counter.

Slash!

His attack landed and it wounded him in his chest. But it barely moved his health points with the damage dealt. He then used Wild instincts and his speed increased. He attacked with more furious rage and greater speed. Making the instructor have a hard time.

His health was slowly chipped and then he was alarmed by it. He then also went all out and also attacked with his skill and Wild instincts.

It was then, his enemy's speed increased too. Making the two toe to toe in terms of prowess. And also, their health was nearly equal.

Though sadly, Lumiel's Wild instincts were weaker in rank compared to the instructor and so the difference in the buff of speed was greatly wide in comparison.

It was then, in a twinkling of an eye, he was attacked with a claw on his face and he was smacked hard on the jaw.

Making his world turn around and he collapsed.

It was then, he was awakened by ticking sounds. It felt very disturbing as his nose itched as if it was being played by a feather.

Tik! Tak! Tik! Tak!

"Recruit, your time is up. Go home. It was dark now," said the instructor who defeated him.

"Oh," Lumiel muttered.

He tried to get up and massaged his temples. Also his still aching jaw and his forehead.

"What happened?" Arthas asked.

"You are defeated in the test. Practice more and get back next time when you are stronger," he said to him.

"Okay," Lumiel replied in a weakened voice.

He then went back to his dorm with aching muscles.

"I guess not to bite more than I chew next time," Lumiel muttered. Regretting his decision to take the test hastily.
