The sand slug's maw dripped with viscous fluid, its rows of teeth glinting menacingly in the desert sunlight. Yara's heart raced as she quickly unsheathed her daggers, her eyes fixed on the grotesque creature before them.
"That's not a slug," the dragon muttered, his golden eyes twitching in disbelief.
Yara didn't have time to reply as the slug lunged toward them, its enormous body crashing down on the sand, sending clouds of dust billowing into the air.
She sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the slug's massive jaws, and slashed at its side. Her daggers glanced off its slimy hide, leaving only a shallow cut.
She heard the dragon's growl of frustration from somewhere behind the worm.
"Not so easy to kill, are they?" Yara shouted over the roar of the beast, the dragon glared in her direction as he dodged the creature's tail.
Why was everything bigger in this form? Human bodies were such a hindrance.
