Yara blinked as Val crossed the remaining distance in three long strides and cupped her face. She had been so relieved to see him. The wolves had been getting on her nerves. The poor creatures were suffering from being mutated by the mana around them.
Before she could speak to him about it, he suddenly kissed her.
It was the same searing, consuming thing that stole the air from her lungs and left no room for thoughts. His mouth moved against hers with a passion that belied his controlled exterior, his grip tightening as though she might disappear if he let go. Heat flared between them, the taste of fire and something mingling as the kiss deepened, raw and unyielding.
Yara melted against him, her trembling fingers clutching at his arms as the world around them disappeared, leaving only the pounding of their hearts and the fire burning between them.
Just as quickly as it started, it ended.
