A week ago, at The Mirage Market...
Kellan stood at the heart of the scorched crater, the acrid scent of burned earth thick in the air, mingling with the stench of charred bodies. His fists clenched at his sides as he surveyed the wreckage, rage bubbling just beneath the surface of his cold exterior.
The once-bustling Mirage Market had been reduced to ash and rubble, a reminder of his failure. Again. His teeth ground together, sharp enough to draw blood. He hadn't expected to see her—or the dragon, for that matter—when he came here.
It was just supposed to be him getting a new egg to continue his hunt for more dragons.
Yet that sounded like an excuse to him.
But she had slipped through his fingers again, like a ghost haunting him.
