Kellan's boots crunched on the gravel as he strode through the crowded market, his sharp eyes scanning the stalls. The portal behind him swirled shut as he straightened. He had been here before, many times, but today was different. Today, he didn't have something to sell.
He stopped by a vendor selling various magical trinkets, leaning casually on the counter. "I'm looking for something special," he said, his voice smooth and dangerous. "A dragon egg, to be precise. Rumour has it there's one to be found in this market."
The vendor paled, her eyes darting nervously to the side. "I-I don't know anything about that, sir. You should try the traders near the old stone bridge."
Kellan's smile didn't reach his eyes. "Is that so?" He tossed a coin onto the counter and walked away, the vendor's relieved sigh almost lost in the noise of the market. She didn't want to get involved with Kellan's mess.
