Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

"Did you just say you're breaking up with me because you're in love with my best friend?" she asked in a low tone, so low Amanda didn't even notice leaning forward to hear her more clearly.

"Six years," she practically hissed the words at the man across from her, "We're getting married next month and you tell me now that you don't love me? That you found someone else?"

"I never thought this would happen," the man said, the calm to her raging emotions.

She looked at him, eyes blazing, then let out a bark of laughter and shook her head, "How long Jack? How long have you been in love with her? How long have you wanted her? How long have you planned this farce."

The man seemed to be caught unaware with the sudden question. "That's not important Kiera."

"Oh, but it is, Jack. This," she waved a hand to encompass the two of them, "This started out as a business deal. Until you wooed me," her voice shook on that last word, "Until you took me on moonlit walks, until you professed again and again that you loved me."

She jabbed a finger at him to make her point. "It was you who made promises. It was you who that made these about emotions." The man slowly backed away and she pressed on.

"And now you're saying you love someone else?" her hair was practically vibrating in her anger, "Tell me Jack, did you also bring her flowers and made her lunch? Did you also tell her you loved her first?"

The man just looked at her, not reacting to her jibes.

"Oh," She seemed take a moment to study him, "You didn't, did you? It wasn't you. It was her." Her eyes seemed to blaze with rage, "It was the other way around, wasn't it? She cooked for you, she took care of you when I couldn't and I thought it was out of the goodness of her heart. Did she make you want to hug her and shelter her from the storm? Was she all weak and pitiful? Did she tell you how much she loved you but it was willing to never let you know because I was her friend?"

"Stop it, Kiera!" This time the man stepped towards her and tried to take advantage of how bigger he was to dwarf her, "This has nothing to do with her. She doesn't know how I feel. We've been together for years and whatever I felt for you at the beginning just faded away. Let's end this so we can both move on."

She defiantly stood her ground, "Was all that professions of love even true or were they just air you thought you had to say so I'd be a willing fool for you?"

When he did nothing but just coldly stare at her, she smirked, "Fine. Let's end this farce here. Go and have your happy ending with her. But you might be forgetting that this was a business deal too. You'll have to be willing to pay the price."

The man gritted his teeth and got into her face, "Can't you make this a clean break? Can we not go over how you'll plot revenge? You know I can make you and your family miserable if you mess with me. I'm not the downtrodden man I was six years ago. If you so much as try to do something to her, you will regret it."

Her face morphed into disgust as she pushed him away. "Both of you are a waste of my time. All I want is to forget I wasted my breath on the both of you. You both disgust me. Being in the same space with you is giving me hives. You can go ahead and do whatever you bloody want. I do not care!

"But I would like to remind you that it was my family who supported you and took you where you are now. It was my family who made it possible for you to study overseas, our money that you used for your initial capital, our influence you used to get more customers."

"I'm where I am now because I worked hard, Kiera. Your family had nothing to do with it!"

"No one would have taken the risk in you if it wasn't for us." She smirked at him, "And I want to see where you both will end up without my family behind you. I don't need to do anything Jack. All I need to do is tell the world that we're done. That my family and I do not have anything to do with you. Just as you wanted."

She gave him a sweet smile, "You've made your enemies, Jack. All I'll need to do is watch as they come for you. Do you think she'll still love you when you're so busy fighting off your enemies? Do you think the sweet nothings can make you survive the coming storm?"

"You're wrong. I don't need you and I don't need your family for anything." He took a step back from her, "You can keep the ring and all the gifts and I will pay all the wedding costs." With that he turned and left.

The camera zoomed in on her face. At first Amanda wanted to applaud how strong she was, how resilient when all of a sudden something seemed to break inside Kiera and an unwanted tear slid down her cheek as she looked at his back. Her jaw was clenched and her knuckles were white as she tried to stop them from shaking but she stubbornly continued to look at his departing back.

Amanda seemed to feel just how heart-broken she was, how much she wished he'd go back to her and say it was all a bad joke. Amanda discreetly dabbed at the corner of her eyes.

"Cut!"
