Chapter 3 - Chapter 2

Kiera did not know how long she had stayed staring at the date on her phone, but the sudden incoming call snapped her out of it. The caller ID showed: Office agency.

She picked up the call after a while with a hesitant, "Hello?"

"What took you so long to pick up?" said a brisk female voice at the other end of the line. "Anyway, I need you at a location I'll message you in a while. A new production for a school life series just contacted us and they need some actresses to fill in their background crew. There's a chance for a possible line distribution so quickly get ready and head there right away."

Kiera snapped into work mode as soon as she heard about filming, she found a pen and an old receipt and was ready to write down the details. "Who should I look for when I get there? And is there a character I should watch out for?"

She heard an impatient grunt at the other end of the line, "What are you asking about? Just get there, just tell them the agency sent you, if they'll use you or not is all up to them."

"What…" Kiera wasn't able to complete her question at all as she heard the dial tone in her ear.

She frowned and tried to remember who that voice belonged to. All she can think about is she hated that voiced and she knew whoever that was did not stay long in the agency.

If she was really 18 now, she needed to find a new agency and fast, before they start pressuring her to sign a new slave contract as she did before (or is it in the future, she's confused).

A few years before she joined her agency at 16, there was a new law enacted to ensure that child actors are able to protect themselves from possible money-hungry parents and guardians. A contract entered into with regards to a minor, wherein his guardians or parents signed on his behalf is only valid until that child reaches 18, the age of majority.

Most of the time the contract will be signed again with the of age actor and the agency and there will be no hassle with regards to work. But there have been times when the actor would then choose a new agency offering greener pastures.

Which caused smaller agency to barely invest into minor actors and only start to train them when they reached 18. This was the case of her current agency, she did as she was told and went to whatever audition or work the agency told her to do. Though if she was 18, her contract should be up by now and she was sure she has not yet signed a new contract with the agency.

She remembered how she tried reaching out to various agencies upon her 18th birthday and trying to show them what little proof of her skills there were and barely got anywhere.

If this was really not just an elaborate dream, she would rather work on trying to find a new agency than getting stuck in this small agency again and getting nowhere and working as a slave for the next 5 years.

After her current little-known agency went bankrupt 5 years from now, she had scraped up enough money to join independent acting classes and it should be enough to pass an audition she wasn't able to pass previously.

She looked through her drawer where she remembered she kept several business cards. She'll go through every one of the agencies and use what she knew about their future trends.

Surely anything is better than being stuck here.
