Tension descended in the conference room, smothering everyone in a blanket so thick that, for a second, it was hard to breathe. Then chaos erupted.
"Absolutely not!" shouted one of the older wolves sitting at the table, slapping his hand down on the hard surface so loud that some of the other shifters in the room flinched at the sound. "I don't know who you think you are, but I am telling you now, I am not letting some female still in elementary school tell me what is going to happen."
I cocked my head to the side, my expression blank as I watched the wolf's face starting to turn red as he pulled out his phone. Punching in numbers with a trembling finger, he brought his cell phone up to his ear.
Everyone could hear the ringing of the phone as it tried to connect with whoever was on the other side. But after six rings, the man's answering machine picked up. "This is Councilman Lloyd, I'm not able to come to the phone at the moment—"
