Chapter 252 - Chapter 252: Chain Reaction

"Club! Someone's here! The people inside are coming to save us!" Jim's loud shout woke everyone up.

"Run!"

"Georgina!"

Under the shouting, everyone woke up in an instant, and upon seeing the monsters approaching through the mist, they hurriedly followed Jim's lead.

However, due to a brief pause earlier, the monsters had already surrounded them.

At this moment, everyone ran with all their might, desperately fleeing.

Gunshots blurred into the background once again, as they saw the monsters charging towards them being continuously hit by fierce gunfire, exploding into pieces.

Even without seeing who was firing or the surrounding monsters clearly, they could see the bodies of monsters littered on the ground from the creatures revealed by the gunfire and the mist.

This sight brought a look of excitement to Jim and the others' faces, a look of having survived a great disaster, as adrenaline surged through their bodies, making them feel even more powerful.

Only York, who was ceaselessly firing, raised his eyebrows slightly.

"This mist seems to have an effect of obstructing sound."

Thinking of the ending, where the protagonist finds the armored vehicles and tanks right in front of him, York knew very well. He was like an invisible man, silently shooting to clear the surrounding monsters attacking the group.

One after another, no matter how bizarre the form of the monsters, under the MK-48 light machine gun in his hands continuously firing bullets, they had only one fate: death.

"John."

York called out: "They are coming over, lead them into the club."

Now, John Wick felt extremely frustrated, unable to see anything and therefore unable to do anything. He could only watch the priest continuously shooting, the sound of gunfire booming, while he was just a spectator.

"Yes, Father."

But under the current circumstances, he knew what he had to do.

Vaguely, John Wick, following the direction of the gunfire, could already see the blurry shadows of the group.

"Here they come!"

York shifted his gun, directing the ceaselessly firing bullets to the right, hitting the flying insects and scorpion-tailed beasts, causing them to explode and fall.

At this point, Jim and his fleeing companions finally noticed the two people standing in front of them.

Only three meters apart, one particularly burly man caught all their attention.

Because they finally heard clear gunfire and saw who was shooting.

The man wore a simple black outfit, tall and well-proportioned, with a box on his back and a machine gun in his hand, bullets continuously firing from the barrel.

His abundant firepower gave them a very strong sense of security.

His hair was neatly trimmed, his features strong and determined, radiating a masculine temperament, and his deep eyes sparkled with determination and courage.

Georgina's eyes sparkled with admiration; she knew this man was their savior.

"Can it only be heard clearly within three meters?" Confirming this, York continued to shift his gun, shooting into the air, knocking down the flying scorpion-tailed beasts and unknown insects one by one.

"John."

York called out, needing to maintain the pressure and firepower.

"Understood."

John Wick stepped forward, signaling to Jim, who was carrying an elderly man, and then walked towards the back.

"Follow me."

"Let's go!"

As a leader and a veteran in the army, Jim understood the gesture immediately. He glanced at York, who was still shooting with an easy expression, and led everyone to follow John Wick's steps.

"How many more are coming."

Seeing Jim's group entering the club under John Wick's leadership through the 3D map, York shifted his gun to hit the sneaking monsters on the left, causing them to explode, and then began to retreat.

"Phew!"

Once inside the club, Jim and his companions, one after another, collapsed to the ground, utterly exhausted.

Only John Wick and Erin remained vigilant, staring into the vast mist outside, hearing the continuous but very vague gunfire, unable to see anything.

A phrase they couldn't hear lingered in the mist.

"Refreshing."

York, while retreating, felt extremely exhilarated.

Under his control, the MK-48 machine gun's barrel vibrated continuously.

Only he could hear the deafening gunshots, see the bullets engulf the monster horde like a torrential rain.

The firepower was dense and accurately hit every target he aimed at,

York could see the monsters' flesh exploding and splattering on the ground as they were hit by the bullets.

This was something impossible to achieve in times of peace.

Only now, could York witness what extreme violence looked like.

The bullets continuously penetrated the monsters' bodies, emitting a piercing tearing sound, yet more monsters continued to emerge from the depths of the fog.

The 3D map was crowded with monsters, and finally, York stopped, grinned, discarded the overheated, empty MK-48 machine gun, and the 500-round belt-fed ammunition.

"This time was truly satisfying, this is real target practice!"

York's body emitted a deep red light.

[50 magic points used]

[50 spirit points used]

Fifty spirit points, enhanced fifty-fold by enchantment, instantly surged to 2,500 points.

In an instant, the approaching horde of monsters seemed to be controlled by an invisible force, freezing in place.

"2,500 points is quite a high regard for you guys, but I still need to save some for later." York chuckled, clenching his right fist.

Pop, pop, pop!

Following a series of shattering sounds, all small monsters within a hundred meters were crushed into bits by the psychic force.

The mixed blood and flesh fell like raindrops around, blending into a vague scene, merging with the vast mist.

In an instant, the area fell silent, so silent that the people inside the club noticed something.

York took this opportunity to quickly retreat towards the club.

He knew that these monsters were just the vanguard, and the larger, more dangerous monsters were still behind.

At this moment, a cold mechanical voice echoed in his ear.

[...]

[Condition met: Trigger random mission]

[Mission requirement: Resolve the mist incident]

[Mission reward: +65 attribute points]

[Accept/Decline]

[...]

"Same as the previous cult, 65 points again, is this the limit?"

Hearing the mission prompt, York looked at the approaching club, internally accepting this mission.

[Accepted successfully]

"Combining previous speculations, it seems I still need to visit the site." York's gaze rested on the two soldiers in the club, their uniforms and ranks clearly high, he was sure these two knew something.

"After all, this mist allowing monsters to roam freely seems to have come from that accidentally opened hole..."

With this thought, York appeared in Erin's surprised eyes, under John Wick's calm gaze, and in the sight of everyone watching, he entered the club.

Upon seeing the two soldiers, York did nothing but calmly spoke before they could thank him.

"You know about the situation with this mist, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't have returned in time before the monsters attacked,"

Saying this, York looked at the crowd behind the two soldiers, then calmly continued.

"So, can you tell me exactly what's going on here?"

With these words, everyone's gaze turned to Jim and Mike, who were startled by the question, their blood-stained military uniforms glaringly obvious.

"This..."

Jim and Mike exchanged glances, looking at York, whose presence was overwhelmingly oppressive and dangerously palpable, and managed a bitter smile, understanding the implicit demand in his tone.

"We can," Jim said, with a hint of bitterness.

Up to this point, from the surrounding setup and the recent events, he also realized that the person in front of him seemed to know something.

"John, stay here and watch."

York instructed John Wick with a nod, and upon receiving an acknowledgment, he started walking towards a side path.

"Jim!"

Jim's friends and family called out worriedly from behind.

"It's okay."

Jim signaled to Mike with a nod, receiving a confirming nod in return, and then followed York.

The two switched locations.

York glanced at Jim and said, "Tell me, how did you manage to create such a large hole? These monsters aren't small."

Jim was taken aback for a moment. Although he knew the person in front of him was not simple, he didn't expect him to be so direct right from the start.

"Who exactly are you?" Jim asked intently, finding it hard to believe that an ordinary person would know about this.

"A priest," York replied calmly.

"A priest?" Jim was momentarily stunned but then his eyes widened in realization.

"Are you from the church?"

Connecting the dots with the recent situation, he finally realized that the man in front of him was able to accurately hit monsters deep within the impenetrable mist.

With this realization, Jim's eyes widened further, a look of excitement flashing across his face.

"Have you figured it out now?"

York smiled, "It seems you also know some hidden truths."

"Yes..."

Jim's attitude changed instantly.

"So..." York glanced at him, ignoring Jim's shifting demeanor, and continued.

"What exactly happened here? I moved here for your sake."

Hearing this, Jim showed a bitter smile and said:

"Actually, we also don't know why it escalated to this extent. Normally, no matter what we did, it wouldn't result in such a large crack because the space is very stable."

As he spoke, Jim continued under York's slightly furrowed brow.

"We discovered a void rift here, for the purpose of studying the world inside the rift..."

Jim's narrative continued to ring in York's ears, his expression growing calmer, now with a clearer understanding compared to the information he knew from movies before.

For the purpose of researching the entities within the rift, the United States government established a scientific project named Arrowhead, aimed at studying dimensional portals.

This was information York already knew, but what concerned him was the parallel world's space becoming increasingly fragile.

According to Jim, they noticed the area around the void rift starting to fracture.

And within this, they did nothing, unsure of how to repair it.

They could only watch as the rift widened, the mist from within descending here, and the sounds of monsters growing clearer.

"This made us feel endangered. The army's presence here was to prevent these monsters from invading."

Jim's voice carried a mix of bitterness and sorrow, letting York know that the army stationed to stop the monsters' invasion might have already suffered heavy casualties.

"To restore the rift to its previous state, we could only attempt some repairs, but unexpectedly, the space, which was once stable, broke on the spot, and the rift expanded uncontrollably."

Jim looked towards York, who appeared contemplative and calm, and took a deep breath.

"Following that is what you see now. My family lives here because of my job; I'm a member of the research team, a sinner. I could die, but I can't watch them die, so I had to sneak down here..."

York listened silently to Jim, his mind focused on the earlier mention of the previously stable space becoming fragile.

He recalled his previous speculations and observed changes.

"This parallel world is becoming more dangerous, with supernatural incidents emerging one after another. I wonder if there's a connection to this event."

York's expression darkened, sensing some kind of chain reaction had started.

"So why has this parallel world become like this?"

Thinking spontaneously, York's mind wandered to the old man.

Considering recent events, his sudden promotion to bishop, and Erin's eyes, it seemed the old man was making some covert arrangements behind the scenes.

The old man must know something.

York frowned, feeling the old man might have insights into why the world was changing.

Seeing York's frown, Jim spoke with a bitter smile: "I can bear the consequences of my sins, just please protect my family. They don't know what I'm doing; they are just innocent civilians."

Being part of a team researching dimensional portals, knowing there are other realms beyond Earth, Jim was aware that their ability to live openly and well was because the church and some individuals were bearing the darkness.

Hearing this, York's frown relaxed, ignoring Jim's implied request, and calmly stated: "Tell me, where is this rift located?"

"Uh?"

Jim's eyes widened, looking at the priest as if realizing something.

"Father, you..."

"I'm going to resolve this rift, stop the situation from escalating," York sighed.

"We can't let the rift keep expanding, allowing monsters to continuously come through..."
