The combination of two scenes made both Amelia and Saxon think of the same thing simultaneously.
That is, the rapid response speed.
According to their understanding and common sense, although the situation seemed to be escalating, it would usually take a long time for Thailand to respond promptly given its capabilities and organizational skills.
This is why Amelia, seeing these pedestrians and the public in areas yet unaffected and clueless about the situation, felt so powerless.
Because by the time Thailand reacted, the situation would have already become uncontrollable.
However, unexpectedly, Thailand's response was swift.
Both thought of Father York.
"It might be because of Father York."
Amelia, clutching the still-active phone, sighed in relief.
"But we should still follow the Father's advice and head to the Sasa Church, as I feel we're not out of danger yet."
Saxon nodded, taking his gaze off the SWAT team that had disembarked and sped forward.
Under his control, the car moved from one street to the next amidst surrounding gasps.
Four more streets to go.
Here, Amelia and Saxon noticed that the Thai police had begun forcibly dispersing the public, and loudspeakers were announcing that Bangkok would soon be under control due to certain reasons, urging people to evacuate quickly.
Meanwhile, helicopter after helicopter appeared in the sky.
Amelia, with her sharp eyes, noticed that there were several priests in robes sitting inside the helicopters.
Not only did she notice, but Saxon driving the car, the police, the SWAT teams, and the forcibly controlled and evacuated Thai citizens all saw it.
Leaving the belated realization of the Thai public aside, this made Amelia and Saxon feel the seriousness of the situation even more.
Because they realized it wasn't just priests who were descending; there were also monks among them, trying to calm the Thai public.
This was a situation that could only arise after organization and allocation.
Suddenly, an explosive bang caught everyone's attention.
Boom!
Like the rumbling of an earthquake, leaving everyone clueless about what happened.
This made the dawdling Thai public panic, increasing their eagerness to surge towards the yet-to-be-set-up checkpoints under the police's loudspeaker commands.
It was an instant trend in the situation.
Many people moved in one direction, starting a herd effect, running with the crowd unconsciously regardless of their thoughts.
It looked very normal.
But Amelia, sitting in the passenger seat, blinked and felt the scene slow down.
The fleeing Thai citizens on both sides of the street, their panicked and bewildered expressions seemed to freeze.
The police cars ahead, shouting Thai police, SWAT, and the yet-to-be-set-up checkpoints seemed very distant.
A string in her heart was touched, and Amelia instinctively looked towards the rearview mirror, towards the direction they had desperately escaped from.
Unknowingly, a group of black-clothed individuals holding black umbrellas appeared at the end of the lane behind them.
They all wore expressionless faces, as if coldness was all their life had to offer.
The chill in their eyes was repelling.
"There are people ahead!" Saxon's shout brought her back to reality.
Amelia quickly shifted her gaze forward.
Just like behind them, a group of black-clothed individuals holding black umbrellas appeared in front of them.
To her, these people seemed to have been waiting here for a long time.
Right in front of the checkpoint, at least several meters away.
And these black-clothed individuals stepped aside from the passing cars, walking step by step towards them.
They didn't even glance at the fleeing Thai citizens on both sides of the street.
Their target was clearly them.
"Watch me run them over."
Saxon, biting his gum, his face stern, fiercely pressed the accelerator, steering towards the black-clothed individuals that instilled fear in him.
It was a desperate move; they were trapped front and back, with no escape.
And as he did so, one of the stationary black-clothed individuals stepped forward.
Without any apparent action, he just reached into a cloth bag at his waist and threw a wet, blood-stained object forward.
As they drew closer, in Amelia and Saxon's fearful gaze, they realized it was a freshly formed placenta.
"Beast!"
Saxon couldn't help but curse, a moment of anger driving away the fear, his right foot pressing down hard, unaware he had pushed the accelerator to the floor.
Now only a few meters separated them.
It was right before their eyes.
"Hold onto the handle." Saxon shouted, and Amelia quickly reached for the handle above the car door, her eyes wide open.
But then, they saw the black-clothed individual who had stepped forward to block the car suddenly split his mouth in a smile, revealing a bizarre, mocking grin, and then pulled a knife from his bosom and stabbed himself in the chin up to his skull before the car could hit him.
The blood sprayed from his chin along the knife blade down to the handle.
All this happened before the car hit, in the wide eyes of the two, as the car hit the fallen black-clothed corpse.
But the car hit something as solid as a wall, with a loud bang.
The immense direct impact and the indirect inertia sent them flying forward.
The seatbelts held them back, preventing them from flying out.
But the feedback from the impact and collision caused great internal and external damage to both.
Puffs of smoke emerged, and the front of the car was half-collapsed, forming a V shape.
Saxon's face was covered in blood, his head hanging low, unrecognizable.
Only Amelia's upper body leaned towards the half-destroyed door, falling outside on the ground.
In her dazed state, half-opening her blood-stained eyes, she saw a hand, resembling a beast's claw, at the deepest point of the V-shaped front.
Just a beast's claw suddenly emerging from the ground could cause such damage.
"Cough."
She coughed, and in the last moments of consciousness, her gaze shifted to the phone flung a meter away, its screen shattered, showing the call had ended.
Roar!!!
The car was moved aside, and the beast's claw became more visible, revealing a fierce face neither human nor beast.
A deep despair emerged in the depths of Amelia's gaze.
She did regret a bit, regretting bringing her boyfriend along.
If it were just her, it might have been okay.
"Take her."
Amelia's eyelids, covering her eyes, began to droop; she heard the words but could no longer respond.
Indeed, she was their target.
Footsteps slowly sounded.
As her consciousness faded into darkness, an aged voice appeared in her mind.
"Almighty Lord, we come before You at this time, with awe and humility.
Facing the forces of evil, we ask for Your blessing, to grant us strength and wisdom to overcome the forces of darkness…"
