Chapter 215 - Chapter 215: Farewell

York reflected on the reports following the fifth one, realizing their timelines were very close to each other, which had initially surprised him.

It was unusual for so many supernatural events to occur in one area in such a short time, unless one actively sought them out or waited for them.

The demon seduced and harmed the victims during an exorcism, and the exorcist, in an effort to atone, fought desperately to banish it? The more York thought about it, the more uncertain he felt about the whole affair.

At that moment, Kaldos seemed to notice York's silence and continued to mock him.

"Hahaha! The more I think about it, the more amusing it is. Only this pathetic creature has ever piqued my interest in all these eons.

I even came up once just to be near a human, knowing I would encounter him,

And sure enough, I was right. I met this wretched being again, and it was his job to exorcise me. Do you know what happened, strange priest?"

Kaldos, hoping to see a look of disgust on York's face, continued, seeking to regain some ground for the humiliation he had suffered earlier.

However, he found that from his earlier silence, York remained calm, nothing but calm.

"He actually knelt down and begged me to spare that girl! Is this the person you know? I intended to tempt him, but unfortunately, he didn't fall for it.

Yet he was still so weak. He could only transfer himself, using his own body to trap me and then committed suicide." Kaldos's voice was full of mockery:

"So, you set up this trap and summoned me for revenge? Pitiful, hehe, truly pitiful…"

Hearing this, York glanced at the filth and disarrayed organs in the pit and walked away.

He had learned enough.

Seeing this, Kaldos felt a surge of excitement and began trying to gather all his strength to expel the Holy Light that had been corroding his flesh, though most of his power had already been spent in self-preservation.

"Damn it, I don't know what he did, but my power is slowly draining. Once I recover, I'll make sure you taste the agony of hell."

However, before he could gather all his strength, Kaldos noticed a round object appearing in the air and falling onto his body.

"What is this?"

Kaldos, sensing something, felt his heart pound furiously, filled with a lethal sense of crisis.

The next second...

Boom!

A massive fireball erupted from the pit, and the majestic power of Holy Light appeared again…

[50 magic points used]

[46 holy/spiritual points used]

"My spirit is now below twenty points, but I don't feel a headache?

Is this due to my enhanced physical condition after breaking a hundred points?"

Dusting off his clothes, York was slightly surprised and walked back to the deep pit.

He needed to confirm whether the demon, disguised as Kaldos, was truly dead.

If he left without confirmation and the demon was still alive, the consequences would be dire. He knew all too well the vengeful nature of demons.

Now, after a second explosion, the terrain and surrounding environment were unrecognizable – no trace of the once forest, only devastation and countless holes.

York stopped at the edge of the deep pit and looked down.

In these circumstances, the pit had expanded further, and the flesh, fluids, and organs inside were nowhere to be seen, only fresh, overturned earth.

"Really dead?"

York fully opened his senses.

There was nothing, and the real-time 3D map in his mind showed no changes within his range.

Having confirmed, York fell silent, pulled out the fifth report, and threw it into the pit. He then took out a holy grenade from his ammo belt, pulled the pin, and threw it after the report.

After completing this, York turned and left, this time for good.

Truth is often so simple it invites deep reflection.

York had no commentary or judgment on this matter. He just did what he had to do. He had only one thing to say.

"Goodbye, Ernst."

Exactly three seconds later.

Boom!

Behind York, an explosion roared again. A pillar of fire and smoke shot into the sky, and the report in the pit was blown to ashes, its remains falling on the freshly overturned earth…

"I've finished my investigation."

York's calm voice echoed on the phone to Gabriel, who responded just as calmly.

"So, what's the result?"

"Sorry, Gabriel, I couldn't find anything." York replied, lying back in the driver's seat and staring at the dashboard.

"Huh?" Gabriel frowned. "Even you couldn't find anything?"

"Pretty much." York said indifferently. "Maybe you should find someone else?"

But Gabriel's frown relaxed at York's "pretty much." He thought for a moment and said, "Forget it. If even you can't find anything, neither will anyone else. Let's just archive this case."

York pursed his lips, knowing Gabriel could probably find out if he really wanted to, just by changing the approach and direction of the investigation. The truth could be found from the victims, depending on the perspective.

"Okay, you're busy. I'm hanging up." York casually pressed the hang-up button on the dashboard, cutting off the call.

"What's with York today? Seems preoccupied?"

At the same time, Gabriel, staring at the phone, began to have some doubts about Father Ernst's suicide.

"Sigh, forget it. If that guy doesn't want to talk, it's probably for the best."

Thinking of York's character, Gabriel shook his head, put down the phone, and opened a drawer in his desk. He pulled out a file, placed it on the desk, and stamped it with one of his seals.

The stamp read: [Archived]

York clicked on the map on the dashboard, intending to return to the church for his daily tasks, but to his surprise, the navigation couldn't confirm the location, as if the signal was lost.

"What is this place, and why can't I take a shortcut?"

York showed a look of helplessness, aware that every time he ventured into deep forests, he might as well have no signal.

To find the ambush site, he had indeed gone quite deep, having scouted ten new ambush locations, all quite far apart.

"Forget it, I remember the way back. The hard way, back the way I came."

York gave up on taking a shortcut, turned off the map navigation, and clicked on the music app.

He knew exactly what song suited his mood now.

"I've delved into ancient books,"

"Legends and myths,"

"Achilles and his spoils, Hercules and his divine strength,"

"Spider-Man's control and Batman's unbeatable fist,"

"It's clear I'm not among them,"

As the song played, the Ford Raptor's engine roared, carrying its driver forward...
