Chapter 205 - Chapter 205: Cleanup

Thankfully, just as York was contemplating this, Amelia in the video promptly stopped her introduction and, with a very serious expression, returned the "Ten Ghostly Laws" book. She even earnestly warned.

"I hope the viewers don't try this. Although we live in an era dominated by science, we should always respect and fear these things, as there are many phenomena science can't explain…"

Through this, York gained a new understanding of Saxton's girlfriend.

"She seems sensible, knowing how to avoid trouble and probably has some understanding of Thailand."

York could see that Amelia seemed relieved after putting the book back.

"Thank you, boss."

She even thoughtfully thanked the boss.

Seeing this, York slightly raised his eyebrows, his thoughts on the "Ten Ghostly Laws" becoming clearer.

He wondered if it was due to transmigration, soul fusion, or physical evolution, but he could recall almost every video and film he had seen in his past life.

It was like he could replay these videos at will.

Because of this, he realized that there was something off about the boss.

"In the movie, this guy seems to use books as a medium for black magic, cursing others. Why he does it seems related to his witchcraft practices."

Thinking this, York recalled rumors of black magic he had heard in his past life, which explained the boss's behavior.

Black magic, like witchcraft, must be released periodically; otherwise, it rebounds on the practitioner.

"The way to avoid it is simple: if you don't want to be cursed by the boss, don't rent and try out the methods in the book."

So, when Amelia returned the book and thanked him, York noticed the already cold face of the boss turn even darker.

"Good thing, Saxton's girlfriend is quite wise. She's a rich second-generation about to make big moves. The only question is why she personally got involved?"

York pondered as he watched Amelia leave the frame.

In the end, he could only think of one reason: She feared something might happen to the filming crew in Thailand...

"Is she that powerful? Could she be a medium with spiritual sight, like Rowling?"

Suddenly thinking of this, York watched Amelia, ready to investigate, of course through Hannah's channels. As for the church, he didn't want Gabriel or anyone else to know what he was planning.

He disliked the feeling of being secretly watched.

"Just hope Miss Camille can bring back Saxton, that reckless youngster."

Remembering the hastily departing Miss Camille, York watched the ending video and prepared to close it.

Just as he was about to click the close button, York paused.

In the video, as Amelia left, a group of young men and women entered.

Just as Amelia exited and the group entered, York was momentarily stunned.

"Indeed, the 'Ten Ghostly Laws', a movie that's a childhood nightmare."

York watched the group appear, a hint of nostalgia in his eyes.

These people were none other than the protagonists of the "Ten Ghostly Laws" movie.

"The Doomed Youth Squad."

York shook his head, letting the video end, and then clicked back to the interface.

He didn't plan to get involved.

Everyone has their own life. If he had to take care of every movie protagonist he met, it wouldn't be these doomed protagonists who would die, but him from exhaustion.

Especially after confirming that the same traces of movies and television exist in this world.

"Phew!"

York sighed lightly, put away his tablet, and planned to return it to Miss Camille next time she visited.

He took out his phone to call Hannah again, planning to ask her to investigate Amelia and delve deeper into the disk event involving Anthony Walmart.

Just like before, the phone relayed that the user was temporarily unavailable.

This meant Hannah's phone was either switched off or out of service area.

"So what is she up to?"

York's mouth twitched, deciding to give up and try again tomorrow.

As for Hannah being in trouble? He hadn't even considered it.

Being a part-time information broker, she had the knack for avoiding danger. Coupled with the exorcism knowledge and skills she'd learned from him, she could defend herself.

York, carrying all his belongings, stood up and glanced at the church.

The praying believers scattered around, eyes closed in prayer.

Through the live 3D map, York saw Erin in the front yard talking with some believers, probably discussing charity events.

After all, winter was approaching, and many poor people lacked the essentials for survival.

As the saying goes, winter is coming. No matter what, winter is particularly harsh for the poor.

His perspective moved on, Robert, the church's first employee, was feeding pigeons with a box in front of the pigeon house, while his wife Beth accompanied the children.

"Peaceful times."

Such scenes filled York with satisfaction. He smiled and walked towards his personal resting room.

But just as he reached the corridor, his phone rang.

York habitually picked it up.

"Gabriel?"

Typically, it would be another long lecture.

York thought for a moment but decided to answer the call.

However, it was slightly different from what he expected.

First off, Gabriel's voice was heavier than usual.

"York."

Sensing something was off, York instinctively frowned.

Was something wrong?

"I need you to investigate something."

Gabriel's voice continued, and York stopped walking. This was the first time in many years that Gabriel had used such a commanding tone.

"What's happened, Gabriel?" York asked calmly.

The tired Gabriel lay back in his chair, looking out the window, and sighed.

"You knew Father Ernest, right? Your peer from the past."

York pursed his lips, squinting his eyes. Of course, he knew Ernest, the good-natured man from his cohort, always played by others yet smiling.

"What happened to him?"

Now that Gabriel mentioned it, York was already thinking in a different direction, preparing himself mentally.

And sure enough, a light voice came through the phone.

"He's dead, and I suspect there's something wrong with it."

York fell silent, unsure of what to feel. It wasn't grief, per se, nor was it indifference or lack of emotional response.

This mysterious parallel world was inherently dangerous, and a priest's duty inevitably led to encounters with demons. Exorcisms were perilous, and one had to be prepared for death at any time.

"Gabriel, tell me everything," York said calmly.

"If there's indeed a problem, I'll take care of it."

"Oh, damn! I've got to say, Thai horror movies are genuinely terrifying. The atmosphere they create... I couldn't even turn off the lights after watching one last night."
