Knowing that deer slugs are made to hunt large wild animals, it's not hard to imagine how powerful the even more formidable slugs would be.
"These murderers are very strong. Chris, who is 181 cm tall, was sent flying several meters away..." Jesse's voice, filled with a sobbing tone, sounded.
"The rest, I... I really don't know."
Strong? Having loaded the last slug, Knight York smiled faintly. From the power to penetrate the car windows and tires, he had already deduced their strength.
"It's okay, I'm also strong."
Knight York said as he reclined his seat back, lying below the window level.
At this moment, having shot all the tires, the murderers began shooting at the car windows again.
A swift wind blew, and bang, an arrow pierced through the window, heading his way but stopping midway like before, its shaft quivering on the window.
"They're coming!" Jesse, suppressing a scream, said through clenched teeth. "What do we do, Father?"
Knight York pumped his shotgun, looking at the arrow gleaming coldly, his gaze steady.
"Just stay hidden here and don't move. With me here, no one can kill us."
Jesse, lying on Carly, looking at the still-calm priest, felt a strong sense of security surge within her. She nodded seriously, biting her teeth and closing her eyes.
She knew her capabilities; in this situation, the best she could do was not to hinder the priest.
Bang!
Another arrow came, this one penetrating deeper than the previous ones.
But following this arrow was another.
Bang!
This one went even deeper, leaving only the tail outside the window.
Knight York lay still, indifferent to the arrows on the window, simply covering his eyes with magic, enhancing his vision in the darkness like night-vision goggles.
Then, bang! Another arrow shot in, this time directly at the passenger seat, embedding in the seat.
"It seems all the murderers are on the left side..."
Knight York finally acted, rolling to the right side of the car, grabbing the door handle in a swift motion, and sliding out just as another gust of wind sounded.
By then, Knight York had quickly moved to the right side of the vehicle.
As the sound of the arrow piercing the window echoed, he was already laying down, peeking under the car towards the direction of the arrow.
As he suspected, the increased penetration indicated the murderers were getting closer.
Even in the darkness, the two pairs of feet at the edge of the highway were clear in Knight York's enhanced vision, though their deformed appearance suggested they were not human.
Knight York thought of something, but then there was movement.
"Mmm!!! Mmm!!! #@$%!"
"&%$!"
Several rough voices echoed, unpleasant to the ears.
Unable to speak? Knight York narrowed his eyes, wondering what kind of creature this was. As the two pairs of deformed feet got closer, he silently raised his shotgun, loaded with slugs.
As their calves came into view, Knight York decisively pulled the trigger.
Boom! The Winchester M1897 fired, its muzzle flash briefly illuminating the scene.
Under the light, the pair of deformed feet and calves were blown apart, blood and flesh exploding.
"Roar!!!!"
A beast-like painful scream followed, and the creature fell.
Click! Knight York quickly pumped the shotgun, eyeing the fallen figure, and pulled the trigger again without hesitation.
Boom!
"So, they were deformed humans, like something out of 'Wrong Turn' or 'The Hills Have Eyes'..."
As Knight York muttered, the creature's head, half bulging and half caved, with a flat and crooked nose and lips revealing ugly sharp teeth, exploded, splattering blood and flesh everywhere.
"Roar!!!!"
The other creature, unprepared for this turn of events, made a move, but Knight York had already cocked the shotgun again, treating every enemy with utmost seriousness.
Boom! The remaining intact deformed feet were blown apart just like the first.
With a painful scream, the last creature fell, its form revealed to Knight York, who lay under the car.
Like the first, this creature's appearance was grotesque, with no complete facial features, staring at Knight York with yellow, murky eyes filled with hatred.
Regardless, Knight York remained calm, knowing that demons were far more terrifying than any visible deformed human.
Click! The sound of the pump action being cocked again followed by the trigger pull.
Boom!
The shotgun kicked back slightly, and under the faint muzzle flash, the hateful, ferocious eyes exploded along with the head, like a watermelon bursting open, painting the ground red with scattered remnants.
After killing two deformed murderers, Knight York cocked the shotgun once more, cautiously scanning the surroundings for any more dangers. Once assured of safety, he slowly got up, re-entered the car from the passenger side, and closed the door.
In such situations, being inside the car was the safest place, at least offering some protection. Sitting in the passenger seat, Knight York exhaled softly, turned back to check on Jesse and Carly, who were lying quietly under the back seat, eyes closed, still trembling slightly. Appreciating their compliance, he reassured them.
"It's safe now."
His gentle voice made Jesse quickly open her eyes, looking towards him. Seeing the priest unharmed, she took deep breaths, her chest rising and falling attractively.
Knight York, not wanting to take advantage of the situation, turned away, silently reloading the slugs. After a while, the heavy breathing from the back seat calmed down.
"Thank you, Father..."
Knight York's lips twitched, unsure if he had gained or lost from this ordeal.
Claiming a loss wasn't quite right, as the wealthy ladies behind him would surely compensate generously. But claiming a win wasn't accurate either, as he had been dragged into this mess...
Just then, an unexpected event occurred.
