The sound of the Black Burst impact echoed through the forest with a deafening reverberation. Trees swayed, and dust erupted from the ground, all aftermath of the shock wave.
Ryan looked in the direction the ape had been as he backed away.
"Is it dead?" Ryan thought out loud. He couldn't be sure as the beast form was now obscured by smoke and dust.
Then his gaze set on something that shot panic down his spine. Within the clouds of smoke and dust, almost glowing with menace and bloodlust, the crimson eyes of the ape stared dead at Ryan.
"How..." Ryan wondered, confusion and panic swirling within him as he instinctively backed away furthe.
The dust and smoke cleared, revealing that the ape wasn't dead—far from it. It still had a battle hunger in its eyes, beckoning for Ryan to come closer, its mouth curled into a slight smile—one of mockery.
