Chapter 99 - Back home

*POV* Destiny Blaze

Darkness surrounded me, the desert was eerily quiet. Sleep wouldn't come even though I tried, it used to be easy to sleep, but now I was wide awake.

"Stefon, don't think I don't hear you." I heard Dominic say, he sounded alert. I held still, as I tried to remember if I had ever met someone named Stefon. "How did you know I was here?" There was rustling, the other male voice did sound familiar.

I sat up and lit a flame in my hand, an orange glow lit up the small camp. "I figured something was going on, so." Dominic stood as a figure shrouded in shadows emerged from the blackness of the night. "Why don't you want us to find it?"

I got to my feet too, watching as the men spoke. "It's too dangerous, and we have more problems than getting back to another world. I am guessing you haven't heard about the rising threat from across the river?" Dominic stood unmoving.

"I have heard. But I have been commanded by the Council to find the portal." The figure stepped away, "suit yourself but I won't let you get there."

Dominic sighed. "Go home Stefon, why be out here when your wife is home sick!?" All of a sudden the darkness lightened enough to see the moon again. A tall well built man stepped into the light. "What are you talking about?"

Dominic shrugged, "Lexus is sick, it came over the radio." Stefon looked concerned. "Fine, but be careful." Then he vanished. I was stunned as Dominic turned to face me. "Who was he?" Dominic shook his head.

"Never mind. We best get going now, get the others up." He commanded as he started packing up his gear. "We are running out of time."

I wondered why he had lied to him, we had no radio and I hadn't seen any message arrive.

*POV* Stefon Rosell

If there was even a semblance of a true to Dominic's words I had to make sure, because if Lexus was sick I had to be there. She was my world, the only thing keeping me from falling apart.

I stepped out of the shadows into the hall of the military hospital center, the lights were bright to my eyes I blinded to adjust them. A nurse coming in the opposite direction caught my eye, I grabbed her arm and whispered.

"Where is my wife?"

She jumped. "Oh General Rosell, we were wondering when you would arrive. She is right this way!" She took her arm from me and sped walked down the hall, I followed.

The nurse stopped at a door. "She is sleeping at the moment. If you would like, the doctor would like to have a moment to talk with you." I nodded, she smiled, it felt forced. "Right this way."

When we entered the small office room, Doctor

Tessa Dell greeted me with a frown. "What took you so long?" I shut the door. "I was busy, what is wrong with Lexy?" Tessa sighed.

"That's the problem, she should be fine, and all the text says she should be pregnant." I stared. "But we know it can't be right. The vaccine isn't finished yet." I took a breath, almost choking, I cleared my throat.

"Are you sure?" She nodded, flipping through a folder. "Yes, I will run a couple more tests if you give me the go ahead." I nodded. "Do whatever it takes." She smiled. "You should go see her now." She said tiredly before turning back to her desk.

I left her office and moved through the shadows going faster than to actually walk the distance back to her room. Stepping out into the room, I swallowed at the sight of her sleeping soundly.

If it was really true that she was pregnant then… my chest welled with happiness. Sitting on the edge of the bed beside her I took her hand. "You-…" I couldn't get the words out. She stirred, releasing a heavy sigh. "Curse this.."

*POV* Destiny Blaze

Dominic had us marching through the darkness, and I started to imagine all the creatures that might pop up and bite me in half.

About a couple hours later I felt so tired I could have fallen to the ground and slept right there in the sand but Dominic continued to push us forward.

We finally came to a halt and I pushed my way to stand beside Dominic. "This is it?" I asked, stared doubtfully at the small cave-like hill. "I believe so." I pushed forward and got to my knees. "We will follow."

I turned frowning. "What? Why would you come?" He shook his head. "Just go in." I got back to my feet. "You guys can't come, you don't belong in my world." He stepped forward in the dim light. I could see the scruff of his unshaven face.

I was expecting him to say something but he brushed past me and sat on his bottom then scooted forward disappearing into the cave. "Damn him!" I cursed as I entered.

I fell with a loud shout into a black and deep purple space, floating in the zero gravity I looked around. The mark of the lion on my upper leg glowed through the fabric of my pants.

I could help but feel excited, then I felt the darkness wrapping around me and I fell, I opened my eyes and sat up quickly and looked around me. I was back in familiar trees.

I stood dusting myself off. "Where was I?" I thought, a stick snapped, flipping around. I glared at Dominic. "You shouldn't have-." I was cut off as Blaz and the other 2 came to stand beside me. I repressed an audible groan.

The night was setting in here, the sunlight sifting through the leaves in the west. "Where are we?" Dominic asked me. I sighed. "Not quite sure." I stared in the direction of the setting sun.

After a bit I noticed Priscilla wasn't looking too good. "Maybe we should stop and eat." I suggested. Dominic nodded. Leaving the others I headed into the trees to hunt. An excuse to be alone, Dominic infuriated me.

His decision to come here too was against my better judgment. But I wasn't really in the mood to kill anyone and it wasn't necessary, at least I hoped.

I took a seat up against a tree forgetting the hunt at the moment and picked up a small yellowing leaf, the seasons were changing.

I whispered my spell and watched as the small bird materialized, cutting a small hole in the leaf with my nails. I handed it to the bird, then watched as it flew away.

Releasing a breath I got back to my feet. "You okay?" I started jumping slightly as Dominic's voice reached my ears. "When did I become so jumpy!?" I watched him approach. "Yes, I am fine just clearing my head, I hunt better that way."

He chuckled. "Sorry it took so long to get you back." I sighed. "Me too. Thanks I guess." I went to brush past him, but he caught a hold of my arm. "Do you hate me?" I stared at him, he was quite close.

I glared, trying to pull away. "Yes actually, I do a bit. I don't see why you came too. You don't belong." He sighed. "I could if you let me." His voice was rough and deep. My heartbeat quickened, and heat covered my body.

I cursed. Our eyes locked. "Destiny, could you just try a little to give me a chance?" My head spun, I had heard stories of moments like this, but never had I ever imagined it would happen to me. I was too careful.

"I-." My mouth was dry. A stick snapped, and wind blew as someone landed a couple feet away. I pulled away, walking in the direction of the new arrival. "Thank heavens you came, Mink!"
