*POV* Coral Sparks
It was a new day, and I had renewed energy. But we spent the day napping and talking in the forest until late into the night. We attempted to build a fire, it wasn't as easy as I remember it being.
Randall took an hour rubbing sticks together and I couldn't help smiling when flames flickered to life. We gathered some wood and got the fire roaring. Then we snuggled up in the 2 blankets we had brought, and tried to sleep.
It took me way into the night to actually fall asleep, I was so excited to get back home, so I could show Randall off to my family. If Magnur showed up… I realized I didn't have a plan of action if that happened.
I decided to just go one step at a time and see how it went. Hunting for breakfast crossed my mind, but I had no idea how to so we just ate what we had left over.
We traveled till we reached a road and then I asked directions of an old man traveling alone. He told us to go right and follow the road to reach the capital city.
With a spring in my step we set off. We reached the city just as the sun set, the bustling of the city had me a little on edge as I led the way to Anderson's trading and mill, the place my adopted father had set up for a meeting place and a place of refuge.
There was one in the white city and one in the capital city. A young boy about 12-14 lounged on the steps leading up to the door. "Mister, can I interest you in a door handle?" He asked in a sing-song salesman's voice.
His question was directed at Randall, but I stepped in, a hand on Randall's arm. "Actually we have been looking for a door knob, one of those silver ones with the curly end." The boy got to his feet eyeing me curiously.
"Well.. we probably have what you need. Come into the shop and take a look?" I smiled, and he jumped the rest of the steps to open the door for us.
I knew Randall must be really confused but I trusted that he would stay quiet and observe. "Right here are the handles." The boy pointed to a couple wooden and metal door handles on display. The rest of the small shop was filled with wagon parts and other wood carved stuff.
I pretended to look for a second before I smiled. "Could we perhaps meet with the craftsman?" The boy sighed and we followed him over to the checkout counter. "Sorry Ma'am but he isn't here right now."
"Oh.. is there somewhere we could stay until we can meet?" He shook his head. "He is really busy these days so it will be a couple days." I nodded and took the small coin purse he handed over the counter.
Even though the shop was empty save us, we continued to talk in code. I wasn't sure if the boy recognized me but I wouldn't have been surprised.
"Thanks though, could I leave a message to get an appointment?" He nodded and slid a paper and pencil in front of me.
Picking up the pencil I wrote. "Hope this reaches you well.. I need your help. CS" I slid the note back and smiled. "Thanks." Then I took Randall's hand and we left.
"What's in the bag?" He asked as soon as the door shut behind us. I pulled him into the street while stuffing it into my pocket then I took Lula back from him. "It's money to get us a room in the inn."
We continued to talk for a bit as we approached the inn with a swinging sign that read. 'The thimble.' When we entered the first room we could hear the sounds of people as they ate their dinner and played their games.
We sat at an empty table and then I made my way over to the counter. "I need a room, and 3 meals." The older man behind the counter smiled. "Sure thing Miss." I paid before I went to sit back down.
I started to notice others in the room staring our way and I realized it was because we had children with us. Our food arrived and we ate before getting our key and going up the stairs.
The room was small with 2 single beds against the walls, 1 small window was on the far wall, close to the ceiling. Randall sat Samuel down on one of the beds, and knelt on the floor. "Whoosh.. I am tired." I chuckled. "Sorry it was such a long walk." He sighed.
"You are telling me you guys haven't invented cars yet." I shook my head with a laugh. It took a minute to get the twins comfortable, and a sleep before Randall and I were able to relax.
I hoped father would be able to meet with us soon, but I wasn't too sure he would believe my note. I had been gone awhile.
Drifting to sleep in Randall's embrace, I was happy and excited to meet the new day and see what was in store.
A dream of when I was young filled my mind, my mother watched me and my brother playing with a ball, and when I tripped and started to cry a dark figure came to help me get back on my feet and dust off my purple dress.
I couldn't picture the man helping me no matter how hard I tried. I never remembered my birth father, all I knew about him was he was my adopted Father's friend.
My dream started to turn back to the time I had been tied down by my Magnur.. I woke up sweating. Randall pulled me closer and I relaxed. He was here.
A random thought entered my tired mind. The child I had pushed away. "Where is he?" I thought, my eyes landing on Lula and Samuel. Even if I hadn't wanted to accept it, he was born of me…
"Maybe I can find him." I whispered quietly out loud. Randall hummed beside me in his sleep and I sighed, closed my eyes and tried again to sleep.
