Chapter 58 - Escape

*POV* Clay Sparks

Cassy's words rang in my mind as I ran through the dark forest. Her words were more of an impression than physical words, her eyes were filled with determination and her face pleading, the thought was pushed from my mind as something hit the ground in front of me. I staggered in my retreat.

I had left them behind, but now I wondered if I should go back. I couldn't believe that what Cassy had done was even possible. Her power coursed through my blood willing me to push forward.

I did not know the spell for air travel, but I had heard it a couple times. Trying to speak while running was more difficult then I remember, my mind focused on the spell. I whispered the words and the air obeyed.

Once in the air I had to figure out where I was while dodging spells from those on the ground. I couldn't send a messenger bird while in the air so I set my eyes on a high cliff and landed with a staggering step.

I could feel how weak my body was from the sudden use of magic power, my breathing was quick and labored. Whispering the simple messenger bird spell, that had become as easy as breathing.

I sighed in relief as I watched the red speck become invisible in the evening light. I took a deep breath and rolled my shoulders. My body was weak and I felt hungry, my gaze landed on the silver towers peeking up through the thick trees. The castle of the eastern border.

I am reminded now of the one time I had been there for a visit, I realized how mad Dixie was going to be when she found out she had grown up in the place she was now being held prisoner.

Fear grabbed at my heart, and I sighed. I was going to get help, I wasn't too sure how far away Destiny and the camp was but I am pretty sure most of them will be willing to help.

I found a rock, taking a seat as I waited.

The night sky only got darker and I felt the need to eat but I stayed where I was, a cool breeze shook the tops of the trees behind me. I heard a loud horn sound the stop of the search, and a soft glow of firelight showed the soldiers regrouping.

I watched with my chin in my hand, I dozed but the sound of birds taking flight had me on my feet and on guard, out of the trees lopped a great white tiger, It slightly glowed in the evening light. Skidding to a stop at the edge of the cliff she stared me down.

She reached a foot taller than me and her yellow eyes seemed stunned. She took a couple steps towards me and licked my face with a large pink tongue.

I wasn't sure what to do as she stepped back and sat on her back legs. wiping my face I looked in shock at Monique, but why was she here? Wasn't she supposed to be with Cassy?

"Woah! Good I found you!" she eyed me with a toothy grin. My head stung a little as her words entered my mind. I flinched but she didn't seem to notice.

"Monique? Why?-" She cut me off as she turned to look out towards the towers. "We will get her back, don't you worry." She turned back and began to lick her paw.

"I got help. They will be coming soon, but we have to make a plan. You should rest!" She settled down and looked at me expectly, placing her head on her paws.

I stood unsure of what she wanted from me. My stomach growled and her eyes widened slightly.

I ducked my head and sat on my rock again. "Do you want me to go hunt for you?" She questioned, I shook my head and sighed. "A fire would just alert them to where we are."

She yawned and settled into her paws. "Suit yourself." Her eyes closed.

I looked across the now dark forest, hugging myself and hoped I hadn't made the worst decision in the world.

*POV* Destiny Blaze

Clapping a hand on the soldier's shoulder I gave the youth a nod, he knew what to do. I turned my back on the gate and took my bag from Kanyon. "All in place?" He asked as we turned our backs on the white city. I nodded.

After a couple steps I stopped as a firebird dropped a note in my hand and fizzled out. "What's that?" Kanyon was a talkative fellow.

I unrolled it and read the short message. "Seems Clay isn't dead. Good to know." Kanyon glanced at the note from over my shoulder. I glared at him and burnt the note and sighed.

"We better get moving, you should stay to make sure the money gets where we intend it to go."

"What? Are you going? I could go, maybe take a couple guys." Kanyon fell in step with me again as we continued towards camp.

"Kanyon, did we forget who was leader here? But if you would rather go fight the king?" He instantly back pelted. "You're right, I will get the money in its rightful place." I smiled.

Once in camp I found Maricela and Pip chatting, I relayed the news and 30 minutes later I had 50 elemental users and Maricela ready to go. I just hope we can get there in time.
