Chapter 318 - Chapter 318: The Visitor to Nurmengard

The recording that revealed the Prime Minister's plot to annex Umbrella Corporation shocked the entire Western world.

The British Prime Minister intended to swallow Umbrella's assets?

The identities of the speakers in the recording were quickly exposed by the media.

Aside from Prime Minister Michael Hurd, the rest were among the UK's leading super-rich.

Their conversation deeply wounded the British public.

"Lower class," "paupers."

This is how those capitalists referred to the general British populace.

They even complained that the various medications sold by Umbrella were too cheap, describing their sales strategy as "crap."

One could only imagine the future awaiting the British populace once these tycoons had divided Umbrella among themselves.

Enraged, countless people who missed the best treatment window for their illnesses due to the medication ban and thus lost relatives or their health took to the streets, denouncing the Prime Minister and the capitalists for their cold-heartedness.

Although Prime Minister Michael Hurd desperately tried to claim that the voice in the recording wasn't his, technical experts soon verified its authenticity. Moreover, numerous insiders from the British government and those knowledgeable about the Umbrella incident began leaking information, supporting the recording's credibility with countless facts.

Michael and the wealthy elite had been very secretive, but dismembering and swallowing a corporation as large as Umbrella couldn't be done without leaving traces. His greedy attempts were bound to leave numerous clues.

Despite many officials under the influence of the Virgin Mary statue trying to cover up, it was all in vain.

As the incident continued to escalate, someone leaked a document from the CIA about strategies against Umbrella Corporation.

It included using political pressure to destroy Umbrella's reputation, then collaborating with British allies to divide Umbrella. Through continuous devaluation assessments, they aimed to minimize the cost of acquiring Umbrella, transforming or completely destroying this competitive threat.

Their methods were sinister and shameless, leaving the British populace in awe.

Ironically, these measures matched recent actions by the British government.

Public outcry ensued. Why was the British government acting as a puppet to the United States, treating its citizens with such harshness, as if wishing the poor would just die?

Was the government elected by the British people or by Americans?

"I work ten hours a day, seven days a week, and they pay me 5 pounds an hour, but I'm grateful to my boss for at least letting me eat," said a lower-class worker during a Sky Broadcasting news segment.

"I can't afford meat or new clothes, my parents live on welfare, we dare not get sick, we dare not go to the hospital. Umbrella's Life Elixir is the only medicine I can afford because it's effective, and I don't need to spend much to heal myself."

"The rich can buy all of London but still want to take money from us, taking away the only affordable medicine. I don't understand why the world has become like this."

"I only know they don't see us as human. Our Prime Minister treats us like animals, or pests, thinking we should just quietly die after being squeezed dry!"

Despite the appearance of peace, the UK's wealth gap has consistently been the highest in Europe.

Since 1978, the UK's Gini coefficient has been rising rapidly, even faster than in the United States, making it one of the developed countries with the largest wealth gap.

The Umbrella incident brutally exposed the upper class's exploitation and squeezing of the lower classes.

"To everyone who has, more will be given, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."

The British public was furious. Even a clay figure has three points of fire, and even if I am a leek, you can't be so blatant in harvesting me!

Under immense public pressure, the Parliament had to suspend the investigation into Umbrella.

Meanwhile, the Parliament initiated another vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister.

During the final round of voting for a new Prime Minister, a backbench MP from the Conservative Party, "Patrick Duncan," suddenly announced his departure from the Conservative Party and founded a new party: the "People's Welfare Party."

Aiming to improve social welfare, achieve fair distribution, and reduce the wealth gap, Patrick intended to chart a course different from the far-left Labour Party and the neoliberal Conservative Party.

Due to his former role as the deputy CEO of Umbrella, and his vigorous defense of Umbrella's interests during the parliamentary investigation, denouncing American interference, Patrick experienced a surge in popularity.

His departure from the Conservative Party took with him a faction of MPs dissatisfied with the party's increasingly US-oriented direction, about forty members, and attracted some centrist members from the Labour Party, as well as members from the Liberal Democrats, the Social Democratic Party, and other smaller parties, instantly becoming the UK's third-largest party, nearly rivaling the Labour Party.

However, the People's Welfare Party was new and needed time to develop.

The new Prime Minister, a Conservative Party member, Sleet Larsen, took office.

Upon assuming office, he made every effort to distance the UK from the US, trying to shift internal conflicts externally. He was extremely tough on US diplomacy, not only immediately abolishing all legislation against Umbrella but also implementing reciprocal sanctions against the US and European countries' restrictions on Umbrella, finally putting a stop to the international community's bias against Umbrella.

A month later, Umbrella Corporation resumed normal operations and launched its "Anti-Aging Medication" globally.

The wizarding world's efforts to pressure Muggle societies into acting against Umbrella suddenly faced strong resistance from Muggle society, seemingly unwilling to cooperate with wizards.

Thus, the wizards had to cease their efforts, as they couldn't exactly use the Imperius Curse to control Muggle prime ministers into obedience, could they?

On one hand, the British Ministry of Magic had left the International Confederation of Wizards, and on the other, efforts to pressure Muggle societies also stalled, marking Dumbledore's attempts to use the Confederation to suppress Murphy as a failure.

...

Austria.

Among the mountains, a dark tower stood imposingly.

A white-haired elder suddenly appeared on a nearby mountain path.

He glanced at the tower, hesitated, but ultimately approached.

Following a long-neglected stone staircase, he arrived at a door, pausing to read the inscription before attempting to push it open.

Suddenly, the door swung open.

A frail house-elf peeked through the crack.

"Albus Dumbledore?"

"Yes, and you are... Darent?"

"Darent was my father, sir. He died five years ago. I am Damt."

Even the house-elf sent to care for him had aged and died. After all, fifty years had passed.

"Why are you here, Damt?" Dumbledore asked.

"Two years ago, master said you would come today and told me to wait here for you. I've been waiting here every day at this time. Please, follow me, Mr. Dumbledore, the master has been waiting for you for a long time."
