Murphy's security stores, which he opened, recruited three types of wizards.
The first type is those skilled in combat, who must obtain certificates in both the Spellcasting and Defense Against the Dark Arts sections of the basic wizarding level exams, and ideally, also have a certificate in Magical Creatures Care.
Their daily routine primarily involves spell dueling training, mastering spells such as the Stunning Spell, Petrification Spell, Disarming Spell, Armor Spell, and Summoning Spell. They must also pass the Apparition Test to be officially employed.
They are the future backbone of the security stores, and Murphy hopes they can replace proud Alo as the seed players.
However, their current job is mainly dealing with pest problems for wizarding families throughout Britain.
They catch goblins, imps, dwarfs, and fox spirits, etc., bundling them up and handing them over to house-elfs responsible for transport.
Locke was right; their current job is indeed like working for a pest control company.
These pests eventually end up at the magical research institute, handed over to two twisted scientists in the mental magic research group.
Although dealing with pests seems a bit beneath their abilities, the high salary and the battle experience they gain, albeit not against formidable foes like dark wizards, has led to few complaints.
The second type is skilled in Transfiguration.
The security stores have a high but singular requirement for them: they must achieve an 'E' (Exceeds Expectations) grade or above in Transfiguration to be recruited.
Their current task is to attempt Animagus transformations and provide the transformation research group with various stages of Animagus potions.
Murphy plans to eventually recruit them into the magical research institute, but today's visit isn't for them.
The third type is wizards skilled in enlargement and shrinkage spells.
The recruitment condition for these wizards is the lowest, requiring only a passing grade in Spellcasting.
They are required to practice enlargement and shrinkage spells hundreds of times a day under the supervision of a house-elf.
They are the future main technicians for chip production, and Murphy plans to recruit them into the factory.
But today, Murphy needs to recruit a few for the research institute to assist with chip research and development.
Ten chosen workers are brought before Murphy, most of whom are about his age, including recent graduates and peers, though not well-acquainted.
"I've reviewed your spell practice records. You've all worked very hard and seriously these past few months."
"You must be wondering why you were asked to practice enlargement and shrinkage spells so diligently."
"In fact, it's part of a product we're planning to develop."
"This product will have functionalities far beyond ordinary magic, capable of solving problems, clarifying thoughts, helping people work better and faster, entertaining, transmitting information faster than owls, or allowing people to read news like newspapers..."
"This will be something you've never seen before, a magical creation more magical than magic itself."
The wizards looked at each other, whispering, not quite understanding what Murphy was describing.
Could it be magical portraits? But it seemed impressive.
"To produce such an impressive item requires very precise magic, and your magic is the most crucial part of the manufacturing process."
"Now, after long periods of practice, you're ready for the formal assessment."
"We'll conduct some tests, and the top three performers will have the priority to join my project."
Murphy then took out a stack of cut wafers from an Undetectable Extension Charm box and a canvas with a coordinate system drawn on it, with two circles at the center, one with a diameter of eight inches (a little over two decimeters), and another with a diameter of over a meter.
He placed a wafer in the eight-inch circle, perfectly matching its edge.
"The test is simple. You need to use the enlargement spell on this disc to make it as close to the size of the larger circle on the canvas as possible."
"We'll record your deviation; the smaller the deviation, the better your score. Each of you has three chances, let's start now."
Enlarging an object by five times is not difficult for an ordinary wizard.
This is the current multiplication factor being researched for chips; any larger, and the lithography machines would have to work on wafers larger than 1 meter in diameter, reducing precision and affecting yield rates. Shrinkage spells are not yet needed in the current chip manufacturing process.
Thus, Murphy is simulating the future work environment for the wizards, allowing them to start hands-on practice.
"I'll go first!"
A wizard volunteered.
Murphy recognized him, "Winston Robinson?"
He was a fellow Gryffindor and had been a Quidditch Seeker.
"Hello, Murphy." Winston was somewhat embarrassed.
As a half-blood wizard with a Muggle-born witch mother, he hardly received much support from his parents' side in the wizarding world and had to fend for himself after graduation.
Since high-paying jobs in the wizarding world are concentrated in institutions like the Ministry of Magic and Gringotts, where vacancies are scarce and usually reserved for pure-blood wizards (in a broad sense), he struggled on the brink of poverty even after two years of graduation.
Winston had considered living in the Muggle world, but with his education only up to primary school level, he couldn't find any decent job there.
The means of making money were listed in the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, barring illegal acts unless he was willing to become a dark wizard. Thus, even in the Muggle world, he would remain at the bottom, using magic only to slightly improve his quality of life. However, this bore the risk of legal consequences, so he chose to continue living in the wizarding world.
Now, seeing a peer become his boss, a regular in the Daily Prophet, a superstar, and a newly wealthy individual, Winston couldn't help but feel sour.
Rumors suggested Murphy's wealth came from Muggles, hinting at dark activities, but beyond envy and resentment, Winston had no intention of emulating him.
Jokingly, everyone knows drug trafficking is profitable, but how many actually pursue it?
Ridiculous, not everyone can become a meth kingpin or a successful criminal.
