Communication consisted in expressing a meaning through any way, and having that meaning be understood by the person, the being one was interacting with. That being said, no matter the race, or the species, at least normally, if extraordinary possibilities that might exist in the universe were ignored, individuals learned to perceive and understand things from a young age with their sensory organs, and their control centers, or brain, the language used in their environment having its framework integrated into their thoughts process. That was why languages, derived and made more efficient, more complete over the years of the life of a civilization, could be used commonly. And that was why any language that one was not used to would sound like gibberish, something incomprehensible until one made efforts to learn and understand it.
