They had seen the shield perform with different degrees of intensity, and even if they could only watch from afar, their experts had concluded that unless the shield was crushed by overwhelming force, its energy source was the only weak point. And there seemed to be nothing on Earth that could crush it.
That was why the plan to surround, isolate and starve New City had been the one to be approved. With only one flaw that someone else added after the spark of hope had been crushed:
