The next day, Lucas opened his eyes in frustration. It had nothing to do with the troubles he came back to hear about, nor because of anything particularly important.
It was because of the simple fact that he had too much energy. In his mind, after spending ten tense years outside fighting, killing, and staying alert, the well deserved rest waiting for him should have been a few days long at least. And here he was, finding that he spent even less time than a normal human needed to rest.
That might be an advantage in tense and stressful periods or times of danger, but when he just wanted to relax and float in a noiseless limbo, the result was the emotion he woke up with.
He looked at the ceiling with his back against the bedsheets and swallowed the heavy sigh that stopped at his lips.
