For the fourth baptism that had hinted at a need for life, or vitality, it had confused Lucas, even if not much, as it had been both difficult and easy at the same time.
When one thinks of life, of something representing it, one might of blood and its color red. Not considering the other organisms with blood of a different color, not just aliens from somewhere else that might fall into that category but even on the Earth planet, that liquid, commonly red in human's cognition, was a good representative of life, and by extension vitality.
But then came the trouble. How to use blood to undergo the fourth baptism? Should he dip himself within like he took a dip into the ocean last time? So should animals or even people be slaughtered to get the liquid in sufficient quantity? At best he might taint himself, if not due the resentment, then due to the actions contrary to life itself that had been taken, and at worse he might be struck by lightning or swallowed by the earth.
