Chapter 49 - Humans' Limits 0049- Exfil

"Bee, this is honey. Target acquired."

As soon as Lucas heard that, he disengaged from the battle, appearing behind the soldiers, and shouted:

"GO FOR IT!!!"

He holstered his knife and started running toward the other gate.

Before the tense soldiers could react, they heard a sound reminiscent of thunder. But they knew better. They had been trained and they are used to guns, so they recognized the origin of the sound: an anti-material sniper rifle.

And if the lack of suppressor had not been by choice, it might be a Barrett M82A1 or anything of the same caliber.

The assistant of the commander immediately began issuing orders because his superior had the fragment of a car in his chest, like the fin of a fish but in front instead of behind. Maybe only his iron will would get him to survive that one.

"Check on the general and take care of the wounded. Organize teams to look for the sniper and track the assailant. Reinforce our positions in front and beware of enemy attacks."

"S-s-sir, the general is MIA. It is suspected that he left through the west gate just now and…"

"That's where the gunshot rang from."

The assistant completed the sentence for the soldier. For a moment he didn't know if he should gloat at the fate of the one who forsook them or do his duty.

It had been only one shot but with that kind of big caliber, that was all it would take to off a target. There was not even a need for too much finesse.

Fortunately, you could say anything about the army, but you could never say that it failed to mold the mind of the soldiers the way it wanted.

The assistant gave additional orders immediately after getting ahold of himself:

"Give the information to the rear and add that the general might possibly be KIA but that needed to be confirmed."

"Yes, sir."

He looked at the surroundings where hundreds of men have encircled one person, but said person have made them look like toddlers to play with.

Had the world always been like this or was it changing? Anyway, a new wind was pushing the old away. That he was sure of.

At this time, Lucas had already met up with Estrella and they were running toward the south-west outside of the established road.

Lucas asked, with his breath even:

"Did you follow the plan?"

He didn't ask about the target because if Estrella didn't say anything, it meant that the job had been done. And she too immediately got his meaning:

"Yes. No trace had been left behind."

"Good."

Lucas took out a satellite phone and made a call that immediately connected:

"Yes?"

"It's Ghost. Are you the one Jack Schneider said will exfiltrate us?"

"I am. Is the job done?"

"Yes."

"Good. Come…"

"Shut up and listen."

With the silence on the other side, Lucas continued:

"We will meet 50 km south-west of Donetsk. I'm sure Schneider gave you the means to track this phone so come and meet us at our hiding place. We will be there in less than an hour."

Without waiting for an answer, Lucas cut the call.

"Do we keep to the plan?"

Lucas nodded and they ran in silence at speed impossible to humans.

When there was less than 15 minutes for one hour, they arrived at the meeting point.

Instead of taking a rest, they look off their equipment and put everything in the bag Estrella had since the boat or around it.

They left bullet proof vests, guns and magazines, empty or not, keeping only what they were wearing on the boat.

"Did you notice?"

"Yes."

"I was right." Lucas smiled, then said:

"Let's go."

This time the speed they used to go due south was inconceivable. What was more astonishing was the fact that Lucas was only leaving small holes from his action while Estrella was practically gliding across the ground, a true ghost.

They were already far away when they heard the trap they made with the explosives they had in the second bag go off. The only uncertain thing now was the number of people taken out by the bomb.

Lucas smiled a little sinisterly. He had never trusted Jack Schneider, and noticing hidden troops some distance away from the meeting point only made him happy that he had asked for a significant quantity of explosives from Schneider himself earlier.

With their inhuman speed, they soon arrived at the coast of the Azov sea, not far from Mariupol. Going into the city would have multiplied the variable and since it was not necessary, they made this place not far from it the gateway point.

They ran into the water until it was deep enough then dived inside. Given the fact that they had evolved into breathing into the water, they didn't take any equipment with them.

Less that one week later, Lucas with his hair back to the natural white color and Estrella with her hair freed were on a white yacht as they were leaving the black sea.

They had crossed the Azov sea and passed beneath the Crimea bridge. Even if there had been a submarine, it would have taken them for fishes so they bypassed detection.

When he told Estrella that they would be going to Crimea that night in Tokyo, he had not been lying. Before going to Ukraine, after leaving Japan, they did make a stop there, where they rented a boat in Feodosiya. That had been their destination after swimming from Mariupol.

Once there, after leaving Kerch and the bridge behind, they did away with any disguise and very naturally became relaxed tourists that had a boat that they took out to the sea.

Estrella had some book in hand once again and this time Lucas was not whining about staying glued to the wheel anymore.

He had his shirt opened, showing his muscles that were not explosive but instead beautiful and balanced. Below he wore white shorts while staying shoeless.

Estrella looked at the smiling fellow on the wheel and said:

"You seem happy."

"Haha… Of course. I am in good company, I saw the fruit of what I went through and life seems less sh*tty now that I can become a chess player. And I'm in good company."

"You said the same thing twice."

"I know, but important things must be said many times. Three times I think so, I'm in good company."

His smile widened.

Estrella rolled her eyes with a small smile and asked:

"Now what?"

"Now? We hunt a small fox that thought itself clever. He even changed his number."

His smile became cold by the end.

"Do you know where he is?"

"No. But I told him that I would find him if he dared to make a fool out of me, and I intend to keep my word."

"However…" Immediately becoming flirty, he wiggled his eyebrows:

"Any place you want us to visit. I wouldn't mind another honeymoon."

Estrella took her eyes, an action she has been doing too much lately:

"Whatever. Let's go find your "friend"."

"Yes, my lady."

Saluting comically, Lucas directed the boat through a road he was certain would not get them to the objective rapidly, leaving white foam behind as their hair danced with the winds.
