Chapter 290 - Chapter 290: Tsunade Completely Falls For The Trap

On the sixth day of knowing Mutsuki, Tsunade still woke up at noon as usual. After eating the meal Shizune prepared for her, Tsunade glanced at the clock; the hour hand was at twelve, and the minute hand was almost halfway through.

"Since he was busy yesterday, maybe today will be like the start and Mutsuki will come at twelve," Tsunade thought to herself.

After finishing her meal, Tsunade sat on the wooden corridor under the eaves and occasionally glanced toward the entrance of the courtyard, looking for a trace of the golden figure.

"How lazy. I shouldn't procrastinate on studying; the longer I delay, the more it becomes a habit," Tsunade thought this was the main reason Mutsuki's arrival time was getting later.

"Tsunade-sama, I think what you said makes sense. How about you start waking up in the morning from now on to set an example and motivate Yumi-sensei?" Shizune tried to correct Tsunade's irregular schedule.

"I don't need to study anymore, so it's fine to sleep a bit more," Tsunade said that waking up early was impossible for her.

Not knowing whether Mutsuki was still busy or didn't plan to study for long, Tsunade still hadn't seen him by two in the afternoon.

"Could it be that he's still busy with yesterday's matters?" Tsunade considered this possibility.

This was quite normal and reasonable, as that's how the world often is for most adults.

Thinking about having to eat restaurant food or Shizune's cooking again today, Tsunade sighed inwardly.

As her mood worsened, Tsunade suddenly noticed that the previously sunny sky had become overcast and gloomy with dense clouds.

Drops of rain as big as beans began to fall continuously, and their rate of descent increased.

Accompanying the heavy rain were flashes of lightning, thunder, and howling winds.

"This damn weather, it was fine just a moment ago," Tsunade complained as she and Shizune went inside.

Although the storm raged outside with thunder and lightning, neither the battle-hardened Tsunade nor the nine-year-old Shizune were afraid of the thunder. The two quietly went about their own activities inside the house.

Shizune was reviewing information about Medical Ninjutsu, while the bored Tsunade was researching how to improve the Yin Seal. Tsunade, who found it hard to stay idle, could not help but tease Shizune a bit after an hour of study, which made her feel a bit better.

Tsunade glanced at the clock; it was already past three in the afternoon.

"He must still be busy with yesterday's matters, and with this heavy rain, he probably won't come today," Tsunade speculated simply.

If it were her, with such heavy rain, she would want to do nothing but lie down.

Although as a Ninja, one could still move in the rain without any issues, Tsunade felt that the atmosphere during heavy rain was not suitable for working; it was only good for lying down or playing.

Thinking this, Tsunade's mood gradually calmed, realizing that not getting to eat delicious food that was like something out of Genjutsu was not a big deal.

"Shizune, I have an important task to assign to you," Tsunade said with a serious expression.

Seeing Tsunade with such a serious face for the first time, Shizune instantly became serious as well and asked solemnly:

"Tsunade-sama, please tell me, I will definitely complete the task!"

"Go and learn how to make Mutsuki's dishes" Tsunade said with great seriousness.

"Sorry, but I must refuse."

"Didn't you just say you would complete the task?"

"This doesn't seem like an important task, and Yumi-sensei might not even teach me cooking. Even if he does, I might not be able to learn it."

Shizune did not believe that Mutsuki's cooking was something ordinary that could be easily learned, and she didn't excel in cooking herself.

"How will you know if you don't try? Young people need to be brave and give it a shot. Just ask him directly," Tsunade said, patting Shizune on the shoulder with an encouraging look.

"Tsunade-sama, I've arrived. May I come in?" Mutsuki's voice came from outside as Tsunade and Shizune were chatting.

Shizune looked at Tsunade; she really wanted to say "come in," but since this was not her home but Tsunade's, she remained silent.

"Ahem, come in," Tsunade said, suppressing her surprise and adopting a calm demeanor.

Tsunade looked at Mutsuki walking in from the door. Although Mutsuki had an umbrella, it was clearly insufficient to protect him completely from such heavy rain. His pants and back had traces of rainwater, and his hair was a bit damp.

"Sorry for the disturbance," Mutsuki said as he put the umbrella outside, wrung out the water from his clothes, changed his shoes, and walked into Tsunade's house.

"Yumi-sensei, let me help you dry off," Shizune said, taking out a dry towel.

"That would be a great help, Shizune," Mutsuki said with a smile as he crouched down.

He didn't refuse Shizune's kindness; after all, he had given Shizune pastries and included her in the cooking, so he felt it was important to give her a chance to repay his kindness.

"Did you finish the tasks you mentioned yesterday?" Tsunade asked, crossing her arms and displaying her broad chest.

"Yes," Mutsuki nodded affirmatively.

"Why did you come over despite the heavy rain?" Tsunade asked further.

"After all, I wasted a lot of time yesterday due to miscellaneous tasks and didn't get to study with you, Tsunade-sama. Even if it were raining shurikens, I would still come," Mutsuki said with a joking tone.

Hearing Mutsuki's words, Tsunade laughed, "If shurikens were really falling like rain, you'd be drenched and dead in no time."

Although ninjas are strong, if shurikens were falling continuously like rain, they would have to rely on defensive Ninjutsu to shield themselves, as the body couldn't withstand it.

"That's why I need to study Medical Ninjutsu with you, Tsunade-sama. If I can both heal and run, it might actually work," Mutsuki said as he stood up after Shizune finished drying him off.

"Today, we'll study for two hours as well," Mutsuki said, handing Tsunade 200,000 ryo.

"Why not study for a bit longer? It's raining today, and I don't want to go out, so we can extend the time a little," Tsunade asked after some thought.

This was her small way of compensating Mutsuki, as she had been making baseless guesses about him frequently over the past couple of days.

"Because I'm running out of money," Mutsuki replied straightforwardly.

"I work as a teacher at the Academy and don't take on extra tasks outside the school, so I don't have much money on me right now. After today, I won't be able to study with you for a long time and will have to wait for the school's salary a month after the new term starts."

Tsunade suddenly understood everything.

Why Mutsuki came so early and studied for six hours two days ago, but later came later and studied for shorter periods—it was all due to money. Mutsuki's rate was 100,000 ryo per hour, which was enough to commission a B-Rank Mission.

She didn't know Mutsuki's exact abilities, but if he worked at the Academy, he wouldn't earn much regardless of his strength, as the Academy's pay was based on position and performance, not ability.

Tsunade felt a slight pang of guilt. She hadn't realized that Mutsuki's change in study times was due to money. After all, she had never cared about money, even though she had continuously lost at gambling since she was young.

"After today, I won't be able to enjoy that kind of cooking for a month!" Tsunade realized a very serious issue.

She scratched her head. It's easy to fall from frugality into luxury but hard to go from luxury to frugality. The thought of not having Mutsuki's cooking for a month was just too hard to bear.
