Chapter 40 - Bai Zian vs Chi Yanni (End)

"Sure enough, it's a bit extraordinary. It seems that this battle is worth my all-out effort."

On the opposite side of the training ground, Chi Yanni observed the White Shadow Giant Scale Fish summoned by Bai Zian, her eyes lighting up with excitement. Unaware of Bai Zian's thoughts or the significance of the giant fish, she sensed a formidable opponent in the magic displayed by the White Shadow Giant Scale Fish.

Without hesitation, Chi Yanni summoned her own pet beast with a resounding cry. A one-meter-sized crow with red wings, known as the Chi-winged Crow, materialized on the training ground.

Dumb~

The Chi-winged Crow's hoarse cry signaled the beginning of the battle. A red light appeared on its wings, transforming into gunpowder that enveloped the crow. A powerful impact, known as the Gunpowder Impact, was unleashed towards the White Shadow Giant Scale Fish.

However, the nimble White Shadow Giant Scale Fish evaded the attack effortlessly, causing the Gunpowder Impact to hit the ground and create a scorching pothole. Despite the impressive destructive power, it proved futile against the fish's exceptional speed.

"Damn it, this white fish is too slippery to catch. Red-winged crow, don't use gunpowder shock, use upsurge."

Chi Yanni quickly adapted, instructing her Chi-winged Crow to switch to a different attack – the Surging Wind skill, a wind-element ability with a range attack capability.

Bai Zian remained composed, ordering his White Shadow Giant Scale Fish to counter with a surprising move. The fish's size rapidly increased, surpassing its original ten-meter scale. Chi Yanni and the spectators were astonished by the unprecedented growth.

"White Shadow Giant Scale Fish, Great Ruyi, water gun impact."

A massive water column shot out from the White Shadow Giant Scale Fish's mouth, directed at the Chi-winged Crow. The water gun, now enhanced due to the fish's increased size, posed a significant threat.

Realizing the danger, Chi Yanni attempted to evade the attack, but her response was too slow. The water gun hit the Chi-winged Crow, resulting in its defeat. The once majestic red-winged crow now bore signs of injuries.

"The battle is over, Bai Zian wins!"

Chi Lianyan declared the outcome of the match. Bai Zian, calm and collected, returned the White Shadow Giant Scale Fish to its mythical beast space.

Despite the victory, Chi Yanni appeared dejected. She admitted defeat to her grandfather, Chi Lianyan, who consoled her with words of wisdom about the importance of learning from failures.

Outside the training ground, Chi Lianyan and Bai Jingchong bantered about Bai Zian's unexpected strength. Chi Lianyan then invited them to the City Lord's Mansion, leaving behind the issue of selecting spirit beast cubs for another time.

In the living room, Chi Lianyan focused his gaze on Bai Zian, causing some concern in the latter. However, Chi Lianyan reassured him, stating that as the city lord, he wouldn't interfere in the affairs of the younger generation. Despite his initial thoughts of retribution, Chi Lianyan acknowledged that Bai Zian's actions were a fair response to teaching Chi Yanni a lesson.

"Bai Zian's attack was too ruthless; judging by the red-winged crow's condition, it would take some time to heal. This hit on Chi Yanni deeply affected her, leaving Chi Lianyan feeling a bit distressed. Bai Zian, however, had already left.

Whether it was the blue skill "Water Rupture" or the purple skill "Nether Water Erosion," Bai Zian refrained from using these ultimate moves. Using such powerful skills against Chi Yanni, who appeared weak, would be considered overkill. Bai Zian's actions were premeditated, knowing the outside world exaggerated Chi Yanni's abilities. To counter this, Bai Zian prepared the White Shadow Giant Scale Fish with the "big and small" skills.

Chi Lianyan, though expressing his disapproval, had no intention of taking action against Bai Zian, a junior. Any retaliation, if needed, would be handled by Chi Yanni herself. This unexpected challenge served as motivation for Chi Yanni. Thus, Chi Lianyan allowed the battle to proceed.

"Since you have defeated Yan Ni, you have won this gamble. According to the regulations, you can enter the Scarlet Crow Valley and choose a spirit beast cub or egg. Come with me; I'll take you to Scarlet Crow Valley."

Chi Lianyan, abiding by the bet's terms, acknowledged Bai Zian's victory and prepared to lead him to the Scarlet Crow Valley. Bai Zian, thrilled by the opportunity, eagerly followed.

Entering the valley, Chi Lianyan intended to play a trick on Bai Zian. He prohibited Bai Jingchong, a diamond-level beastmaster, from entering the Scarlet Crow Valley. Instead, Chi Lianyan suggested that the Firewing Scarlet Crow follow Bai Zian for protection. Bai Jingchong found this ploy amusing but accepted it, understanding the Chi family's concerns.

"Since Lord Chicheng asked me to go in alone, then I'll go in and see for myself," Bai Zian remarked, seemingly unfazed by the situation.

In the Scarlet Crow Valley, Bai Zian encountered hostility from red-winged crows. The Firewing Scarlet Crow's presence, however, dissuaded any aggression. Chi Lianyan's attempt to create a challenge for Bai Zian in the spirit beast selection process did not affect Bai Zian's confidence.

Bai Zian utilized the [Eye of Apocalypse] to search for a suitable spirit beast cub. Despite the diverse talents of the red-winged crow cubs, Bai Zian sought one with high growth potential. He explored the entire Red Crow Valley, eventually finding a diamond-level red-winged crow cub.

As Bai Zian prepared to take the cub, a special reminder appeared, catching his attention."
