In the grand imperial court, ministers, driven by their ambitions and desires, urged the emperor to take more concubines, believing it would bring political advantages. The emperor, however, was not swayed by their arguments. He mocked them for prioritizing personal gains over the welfare of the empire, stating that Mei Ling was enough for him, and he already had an empress and ten concubines in his harem.
Despite the emperor's firm stance, the ministers persisted, emphasizing the perceived benefits of having a multitude of women in the imperial court. They argued that it would secure alliances, strengthen political ties, and increase the emperor's influence. The emperor, growing more irritated, dismissed their suggestions, adamant that his focus should remain on governing the empire and not on expanding his harem.
As the discussion reached a heated point, a soldier burst into the court, announcing the arrival of General Jianyu and other distinguished soldiers. The emperor's mood instantly shifted, excitement lighting up his face. He summoned the soldiers into the court, eager to hear about their victorious return from the war against the country of Xuanyu.
Led by the charismatic General Jianyu, the soldiers saluted the emperor with utmost respect. The emperor praised them for their bravery and success on the battlefield, acknowledging their pivotal role in securing victory for the empire. The atmosphere in the court shifted from tension to jubilation.
To formalize the recognition of General Jianyu's accomplishments, the emperor signaled Eunuch Huang, who, in turn, handed over the imperial decree to Eunuch Huan. Clearing his throat, Eunuch Huan began to read the emperor's decree aloud. In it, the emperor expressed his gratitude and rewarded General Jianyu with both a substantial grant of land—a fief—and an esteemed title: "King of Valor."
General Jianyu, displaying humility and gratitude, accepted the decree and expressed his thanks to the emperor for the honor bestowed upon him. The court erupted in applause as ministers congratulated the prince on his well-deserved recognition.
The emperor, satisfied with the triumphant return of his older brother, basked in the joyous atmosphere. Meanwhile, the ministers, momentarily diverted from their previous demands, found themselves acknowledging the valor and leadership of General Jianyu. The court, a stage for political maneuvering, witnessed a moment of unity and celebration, if only temporary, as the empire honored its victorious hero.
