Chereads / Against the Goddess, Kayla's counterattack / Chapter 30 - Adventurer's Guild

Chapter 30 - Adventurer's Guild

Kayla's eyes widened the moment they entered the building.

This... this is it!

"...So simple" Kayla sighed as she looked inside the adventurer's guild.

Instead of the medieval tavern-like building with modern touches that she expected, she found a bank-like interior.

"What did you expect?" Brice looked at Kayla confused.

"Ehh, well, I don't know, something else... Forget it" Kayla sighed. She knew that she only had fanciful expectations created by animes.

Ethel and Brice just looked at her strangely for a moment before continuing on their way to one of the several counters she had at the end of the room.

Although it's a shame that the place doesn't look like a tavern, at least the adventurers are pretty close to what I imagine. Kayla smiled as she watched the adventurers of various races walk around the place.

Most of them were going up and down some stairs in the corners of the room, while the ones Kayla sensed had a stronger aura

they were heading to what she thought were elevators.

Among them, the one that caught Kayla's attention the most was a centaur over three meters tall who had a huge war hammer on her back. Although Kayla was just watching him, she felt a terrifying pressure from him...

There are many strong people here. Kayla felt a little nervous and excited at the idea. So many people I could learn from and eventually win-!

What?!

Suddenly, a terrifying pressure fell on Kayla.

Before Kayla noticed her, the centaur she had been seeing had turned around and was staring at her.

The male centaur, who was wearing metal armor on his horse body and naked on his human body, looked at her with blood-red eyes.

Does he want to attack me?! Kayla gulped as she trembled a little.

The pressure and the centaur's murderous gaze exerted a tremendous level of pressure on her!

The centaur advanced towards Kayla, but before she could take even a few steps, a dark brown-haired human woman accompanying her hit him hard on the back of the head and dragged him towards the elevator, which was large enough for the centaur to enter.

Kayla looked at both of their backs in terror. Not even with Derick had she experienced such strong pressure!

Kayla sighed in relief, although she almost jumped in shock when a feminine voice echoed in her ear.

"Although I apologize for my partner, you have to know that staring at someone can be considered a provocation for some races, so be careful not to do it again, rookie~"

"H-huh?!" Kayla looked around her nervously, but she didn't find the owner of the voice.

However, she was able to find the angry gaze of his companions…

"What the fuck did you do Kayla?!" Ethel grabbed Kayla by the neck, her face pale. A slight tremor could still be felt in her hands.

"Yes, did you just stare at that centaur?!" Brice fought to avoid saying bad words towards his employer, although I was having a hard time.

"Y-yes" Kayla nodded absently as she remembered the human woman next to the centaur. It didn't take long for her to connect things, it was obvious that she was the woman who spoke to him in some mysterious way. Although she was now curious to know how she did it...

"Ahh idiot! You're lucky Miss Eva was there, because we might not have lived to tell the tale!" Brice finally couldn't keep his language "formal" in the face of Kayla's relaxed statement. I could have died from this stupid thing in front of me!

"I-is it really that serious?..." Kayla asked doubtfully. Although Eva had given her a warning, she still couldn't understand why staring at someone was rude.

"Of course idiot! Didn't they ever teach you that while you could look a wolf in the eye, you should never even look at the back of a centaur?!" Ethel shook Kayla hard.

Kayla smiled bitterly. What kind of saying is that?...

After a few more minutes of reprimanding Kayla, Ethel, and Brice finally calmed down... Although it was more because of the looks they received for the fuss they made.

"Anyway, never do something like that again…" Ethel released the collar of Kayla's shirt, which was a nice white shirt with a black cat print. "Like Brice said, we could have died."

"But why? I just looked at him for a few seconds…" Kayla sighed as she fixed the collar of her shirt.

"For some races, especially warlike ones, they consider it an insult that someone weaker than them looked directly at them, since for them the weak should be submissive to them…" Brice sighed. Although these customs seemed stupid to him, he had no choice but to respect them.

"Ah?! What idiocy! How can there be people and even races that believe that?!" And apparently, Kayla thought the same as Brice...

"...Well you just saw it" Brice looked at Kayla a little amused. Who would have thought that this girl would think the same as me...

"Well, then I guess everyone in that race is a bunch of idiots…" Kayla muttered hatefully. She believed that the centaur had overreacted because of a simple look.

"Don't complain about the culture of other races, because in the end, no race is perfect, even us. Furthermore, these customs have worked so far, as the centaurs have managed to maintain their position as one of the strongest races on the continent." Ethel shook her head.

"...I guess" Kayla sighed. She had to admit that Ethel was right. She was no one to decide what was right or wrong.

"...Let's continue, we still have to become adventurers" Ethel sighed and walked towards an empty counter at the reception.

Kayla and Brice nodded. They quickly reached their destination, the counter, where a human man was waiting.

"Good morning, may I know the reason for his visit?" The human, a tall man with hair combed back, greeted them with a monotone voice as if he had said the same thing thousands of times.

"We both want to register as adventurers sir... Ahmed" Ethel looked at the identification badge of the man in front of her.

"Well, but before you make this important decision, do you know the benefits of joining the adventure guild?" Ahmed asked them as he took out some things from under the counter.

"No, could you explain to us?" Ethel asked out of consideration for Kayla, who was looking curiously at the device Ahmed pulled out. She knew that Kayla most likely didn't have much knowledge about the adventurer profession.

"Very well…" Ahmed sighed, regretting having asked. "First of all, adventurers are people with levels above twenty-five who fulfill any type of request, which we call quests, for a reward."

"Although to be honest, anyone can do that without becoming an adventurer affiliated with our guild. However, there are great advantages to joining us, one of which is that we are the organization where the most people leave their quests, so you will never lack work."

"In addition, all our branches have several dungeons that you can enter with the only condition of giving us a certain percentage of your profits. As for the exact percentage, it can be negotiated at that time."

Kayla was surprised when she heard all that or well, she was surprised when she heard about the dungeons.

Grandpa Aaron had told him that dungeons were subspaces created by the system that were basically mini worlds, in which he could even receive quests like in a video game and receive great rewards.

"Excuse me, but could you tell me the rank of your best dungeon?!" Kayla looked with emotion at Ahmed who was breathing hard because of the long explanation he gave.

"Hah... Sure" Ahmed looked at Kayla with some annoyance before answering. "We have a wide variety of dungeons, ranging from the lowest grade, F rank for beginners like you to SSS rank dungeons for the strongest adventurers, like the centaur you disturbed recently."

"Hehe..." Kayla laughed bitterly as her most recent mistake was rubbed in her face.

Ahmed looked at Kayla with a sharp look. He didn't like newbies like Kayla, who were too curious for their own good. They were always the first to die...

But he didn't let her personal feelings get in the way of her work.

"...And well now that you know this, do you want to become adventurers? And don't forget that you have to pay a fee of five gold coins to register and go through some tests to determine your rank and number of stars" Ahmed asked somewhat exasperated, already wanting to lose sight of these rookies who could die at any moment.

Kayla and Ethel looked at each other and nodded. There was no reason not to join!

"We would like to join!" Ethel took out some coins from her space ring and placed them on the counter. Kayla observed this matter-of-factly. During the time they were traveling together, Ethel was the one who took care of most of the money problems...

"Very well, then place your little finger here and inject a little of your mana into the device." Ahmed placed an object similar to an earth pulse marker on the counter.

"Nmm... Mr. Ahmed, what is this?" Kayla asked curiously and a little cautiously. Even though most of the time she let her curiosity come out easily, that didn't mean that she was an idiot who would touch things without knowing what they were.

That's why she felt so angry when his trap, which all isekai protagonists had, was rubbish in her hands...

Kayla looked out of the corner of her eye, somewhat annoyed, at a system panel.

[Eyes $@√|0 minor]

Why is analysis so useless?! Kayla wanted to destroy the blue panel in front of her.

Since she acquired analysis, she had only been giving him incomplete or useless information!

Kayla was about to dShe lost in her contempt for her ability, but luckily Ahmed's voice pulled her out of that hole of self-hatred.

"Oh this little device? It is something we use to determine the level and name of those who want to register, in addition to saving the information in our database" Ahmed smiled a little when he noticed Kayla's caution.

He "realized" immediately that Kayla was a country girl due to her lack of basic knowledge characteristic of peasants, so he looked a little more warmly at the companion who was probably looking for a better life in the capital.

"And don't worry, this little thing can't tell us any information other than your level and name, so your stats and skills will be hidden." Ahmed smiled as he tried to calm Kayla's wariness.

"It's true, this thing is just a minor version of the eyes of the sage, artifacts that can see through our status, so they can't see our statistics or abilities" Ethel spoke while putting her pinky on the small artifact.

The moment she did so, a system-like panel shot out from a small glass located on the top of the device.

Kayla read the words on the panel in surprise.

[Ethel White - Level: 56]

Did he actually advance six levels since he promoted his class? Kayla looked in disbelief at the number next to Ethel's name.

"Oh, you're quite a good girl, your level is quite high for your age." Ahmed looked at Ethel in a new light. "There should be no problem for you to become an E-rank adventurer with your level."

"Thank you." Ethel smiled at the compliments and moved away, giving Kayla room to place her pinky on the artifact.

"You don't have to worry, it's totally safe" Ahmed encouraged her a little.

Kayla just smiled and did the same as Ethel. Instantly, a panel appeared in front of her.

[Kayla Gale - 38]

Kayla looked at her level a little embarrassed. Unlike Ethel, who had risen several levels, she was only able to rise a few in the free time she had after her grandfather Aaron's training.

However, Kayla didn't have time to think more because of Ahmed's surprised voice.

"Do you have a last name?!" Ahmed looked at Kayla with some disbelief. He had sworn that Kayla was a commoner like him!

"Hehe yeah…" Kayla smiled awkwardly. She knew what it meant to have a last name in this world.

Like most fantasy worlds, this world had nobility and commoners. To differentiate themselves, the nobles decided to prohibit any commoner from having a surname. Leaving it as a privilege of the nobility.

So Ahmed was surprised when Kayla, an ignorant girl with a humble attitude, turned out to be nobility!

He expected it from Ethel, who had a noble air about her, but never from Kayla!

As for Ethel, he looked at her friend without much surprise. She had expected that result a long time ago.

"Sigh... I'm sorry for my outburst earlier, I shouldn't get into the adventurers' private lives in the first place." Ahmed apologized with a bow.

He had to have a certain level of respect for the nobles.

Kayla tried to stop him, but Ethel grabbed her shoulder and shook her head.

"Apology accepted. And we would like to continue our registration as eventurers" Ethel spoke firmly, her voice commanding submission.

"S-sure" Ahmed nodded and led the trio towards some stairs that led to the basement of the building.

Kayla looked at Ethel with some dissatisfaction. But she didn't do anything else besides that. Ethel hadn't done anything wrong in the first place.

So the trio and Ahmed went down a few floors, before finally arriving at a training room like the one Kayla and Ethel had fought in in Alteon.

"Well... here we are" Ahmed made some signs towards one of the walls and suddenly, several wolves appeared in the place. "I imagine they want to do this quickly, so I'll leave it simple."

"In this test, they will have to fight some beasts to observe their power level and basic abilities to determine their rank and number of stars based on that."

Kayla and Ethel nodded, but Kayla suddenly raised her hand and asked.

"However, Mr. Ahmed, what are the stars you have been talking about?" Kayla looked at Ahmed with innocent eyes.

"Uh…" Ahmed looked at Kayla perplexed. That was basic knowledge...

However, he did not want to earn the wrath of a noble, so he answered the question without complaint. "The stars determine your power level among your peers within your level group."

"For example, you, at level 38, belong to the weakest group that goes from level 25 to 50. And we, the adventurer guild, will assign you from one to five stars depending on how strong you are among the people who have level 25 to 50"

Kayla nodded. It made sense.

"So now that I have explained this to you, let's begin." Ahmed looked at them, waiting for one to take a step forward.

Kayla was about to move to the front, but Ethel was one step faster than her.

"I'll go first, I haven't had a good fight in a long time." Ethel smiled cheekily as she advanced towards the beasts. "You two just enjoy the show."

Kayla and Brice looked at each other and smiled. Kayla wasted no time and pulled out some meat skewers from her space ring.

Even she had never seen Ethel go all out!

As for Ahmed, she made some more signs, causing the wolves in front of Ethel to change shape.

Soon, a new figure stood in front of Ethel.
