[Welcome to the Apocalypse]
'There's no way this is real right? Stuff like this is only supposed to happen in novels and stuff' thought Damien as he tried to process the implications of what was in front of him.
He was taken out of his musings as the message in front of his eyes change, this time taking the absurdity to a whole another level.
[The Eternal Architect has taken note of your planet and has found it wanting. Mana will be dispensed throughout the world in 2 minutes and only half the population will survive.]
Before he could even digest the implications of this the message was replaced by a timer counting down from 2:00
'Not really surprised that an all powerful entity has found humans lacking, but will I be lucky enough to be alive after two minutes' he thought as he contemplated over his odds of being within the surviving half of the population all while the timer slowly ticked down.
Unbidden a terrifying thought filled his head. 'Wait, if this is anything like the apocalypse novels I've read about there's probably gonna be some monsters or mutants of some sort and here I am stuck underground with no light'.
A wave of pure unadulterated fear rushed through his system as he reached into his pocket to pull out his half charged smartphone. He opened his phone and took a note of the time seeing that it was 11:58 am closing towards high noon.
His panic driven fingers flew through his password and then immediately went for the flashlight icon on the drop down bar.
The sudden bright light stung his eyes for a second before he ignored it and shone it on the side of the train car looking for a window with the emergency exit sticker.
It took him a few precious seconds to find, being the one behind the row of seats next to him occupied by an admittedly pretty looking woman who looked as shocked as he imagined everyone else in the small train would be.
Ignoring everything else he grabbed his backpack and slung it across his back and rushed towards the window as the woman looked up in equal parts surprise and fear looking unsure of what was happening.
"Can you please move to the side, I need to get out NOW." Exclaimed Damien in a panic stricken tone pointing at the window behind her, not forgetting to be polite since even the end of the world is no reason to be a d*ck to a random person.
She looked up at him with her mouth agape for a couple of seconds before she scooted to the side and stared at him as he got to work on the emergency latch.
It took him a few precious seconds to figure out how to get it open before he twisted the handle and tugged on it as hard as he could.
It didn't take too long for the window to dislodge from the top as he pulled it down towards himself leaving it open horizontally right above the head of the woman who he thought he might have ended up hitting with the window. Fortunately for him, he didn't have to bear that on his conscience as he bent down, planted his knees on the seat and tried to vault sideways out of the the window.
He struggled with it for another few seconds because of his backpack but soon made it through the window, jumping out the side onto the side of the tracks. Taking a look at the counter which was now at the corner of his vision he saw that there were only 20 seconds.
Seeing this reignited his panic not even letting him celebrate his escape, but before he could start running again a thought struck him leaving him dumbfounded at his own idiocy.
'Aren't there supposed to be rats and bugs in a place like this? And there going to be more people at the station waiting for the train to go to back.' The thoughts going through his head sapped out all hope as he tried to think of another plan which would hopefully be not as damning.
A thud broke his impromptu brainstorming session as he saw the woman who he had spoken to earlier land on side of the train as he himself had previously, her own phone torch shining towards him causing him to squint his eyes at the lights intrusion.
Realising that she was shining a light in his eyes, a sheepish expression broke out on her face briefly wiping the panic off of it before she went to say something.
"Sorr" unable to finish the word she was cut of abruptly as an invisible wave passed through the air bringing around the mother of all headaches.
Once again looking at the corner of his vision through clenched teeth Damien realised the reason why this happened. The countdown had hit 0, the End had begun.
