Synopsis

Chapter 1 - Chapter 0001.

Taylor waited anxiously outside the laboratory, pacing around the entrance in curious anticipation as she awaited the test results.

She had been there many times before, taken the same test, and the results had always been the same. Each time, she had expected the results to be different, she had hoped, as she did now. Her face lit up with the narrow hallway as the parting doors of the laboratory gave way to sunlight.

A doctor came out with a comforting smile on her face, holding the test results. Taylor instinctively smiled as she took the piece of paper she had been waiting for what seemed to her like hours for.

Her smile widened as she looked at the results. She was beyond joyous. After three years of marriage, she was finally pregnant. She could not contain her excitement, letting out a euphoric scream that turned the heads of people that had also been waiting at the laboratory entrance.

"Finally, I am pregnant! Oh, thank goodness. Thank goodness!" She screamed, ignoring the eyes of the other patient.

She quietly left the hallway, and out of the hospital to where she had her car parked. She got in and took another long look at the test results, as if she was sure that the results would change if she got too happy.

She was indeed pregnant. Her pessimistic self had already accepted that it was going to be another day of waiting for yet another disappointing result, where she would leave with crushed hopes, less convinced of the possibility of ever having a child and going about her day. But today, she was cancelling all plans.

The first thing she wanted to do after getting this amazing news was to inform her husband. She would have done it over the phone, but she wanted to see his face when she surprised him with the news. She smiled all the way through the fifteen minute drive to the home she shared with her husband; Dylan.

They had been married for three years. It was rough. They had not planned on waiting three years before having their first child and Dylan had given up at this point. She could only imagine how happy he would be on hearing what she had to tell him.

The car literally could not go any faster, she drove as fast as she could, eager to get home to celebrate with the love of her life. To share this moment together.

She finally got home. The house was a lovely mansion. Two storeys high. She scaled through the spacious compound and got to the entrance. She pushed the door open and dashed into a flight of spiral stairs that took her to the second floor.

"Babe!" She called.

She thought it was odd that she could not find him in the living room. She made her way toward the bedroom, hoping to find him there.

"Babe?" She called again, pushing the bedroom door open, and there, she did find him, but did not like what she saw.

All her joy and excitement was almost immediately turned into heavy crushing sadness that made her unable to breathe for a few seconds. It was all too overwhelming for her.

First she had been filled with overwhelming joy and excitement, and all of that was taken away in a matter of seconds, as she found her husband, the man she had loved with all she had, tangled in the sheets with her best friend who she had also loved dearly. It was the ultimate betrayal.

She shut the door and descended down the stairs. She crashed into a sofa to drown her face in tears. Her whole world was falling apart. She never imagined any of them could do this to her.

She cried for a long time, but it was only after then that Dylan came slowly descending down the stairs. She raised her head to look at him, she did not know what to feel anymore.

"How could you?" She asked. Her voice threatened to break down into another wave of tears. The fact that he did not seem to be sorry or remorseful was like a needle to her heart.

Ava; her best friend, came down right after him, she had the same unapologetic look as he did. The whole of this was almost unbelievable. It made her sick to her guts. Her sadness increasingly turned into anger and resentment.

"How long has this been going on?" She asked, moving closer to where they stood.

"Tell me you dumb bitch!" She screamed, moving to hurt her friend, but Dylan restrained her and pushed her against the floor. She looked up at them in disbelief, tears welling in her eyes.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" She asked tearfully. "Why did you do this?"

"He had to." Ava said.

"What does that even mean?"

"Because you can't give him a child like I can. You're just a barren, useless..."

"That's enough Ava." Dylan said. Ava laughed.

"But it's true, isn't it?"

"What?" Taylor's voice almost trails off as she says. The pain was obvious in her tone. She could hardly believe half the things that were happening. She could not recognize the two people standing in front of her. "Dylan, please talk to me." She begged.

"I don't have anything to say to you." Dylan said. "It's like Ava said, I have no use for you."

"So that's it? You're just going to throw away everything we shared?" Taylor cried.

"All of those mean nothing Taylor. They never did."

Taylor had no words.

"I already had divorce papers prepared, all you have to do is sign, and then you can leave." Dylan said, throwing a paper and a pen on the table.

She no longer had any intention to tell him about their baby, even though she thought it would make him change his mind. He did not deserve it. Ava and Dylan she thought she knew had been a lie. All she had in front of her were horrible people that she could not stand being close to. Her heart was shattered. Her hatred grew by the second. She signed the paper.

"I can't believe you." She sobbed.

She took her keys and ran out of the house. She did not know where to go. But she wanted to be anywhere but not around them
