The waters were murky, those enchantingly foreign buildings, many now submerged, leaving only their pointed peaks behind.
Naively, the boat ran aground on the edge of the affluent district. They were finally on high ground.
Jiang Tan docked the boat, and the moment she disembarked, she felt a wave of weakness in her hands and feet.
She clenched her teeth, reluctantly stepped out of the boat, and an acute pain shot up from the sole of her foot.
"Ignore it, Jiang Tan," she muttered to herself, hands shaking as she fumbled for her cell phone.
The phone was soaked, too water-damaged to turn on.
A sour taste filled Jiang Tan's mouth. She recklessly stumbled forward until a police officer approached her, calling out: "Miss! Your foot is bleeding!"
Jiang Tan was indifferent, she continued to walk forward.
Time was too short, so short that it wasn't enough.
On the journey here, she was strung so tight that even her sense of pain seemed to have dulled.
