After school, Jiujiu greeted her classmates and headed towards Xiaobei's house. She enjoyed spending a couple of days at Xiaobei's place, even though she missed her grandparents and mother. At least she didn't have to see Ou Tiannan.
There was a shortcut from the school to Xiaobei's house, which was to walk along the edge of the moat, cross a bridge over an area of ruins, and then turn onto the main road that led directly to their family compound.
Jiujiu took this route daily and had never felt afraid before. For some unknown reason, today as she walked here, she felt her scalp tingle with fear.
Clutching her school bag, she thought to herself, if she could just dash past, then all would be well.
"Jiujiu, have you finished school? Why aren't you heading home? Where are you heading to?" Ou Tiannan suddenly appeared from behind the broken wall of the ruins, gazing at Jiujiu with an apparent benign look on his face.
