Chapter 23 - A Trap

They all began to prepare their rifles and ensure their invisible shields were active.

After ensuring everyone was ready, Levy glanced at his subordinates with his deadpan expression one last time.

Then, he swung his hand a few times in the air while chanting something under his breath, and the tunnel door opened slightly.

The bright light from outside blinded their eyes, but Levy was prepared, putting on his sunglasses.

Levy felt relieved when he saw no monsters or vampires awaiting them outside. However, he needed to check something.

He gestured for his team to follow him in silence. They walked toward another tunnel door where they were supposed to emerge. After a few minutes' walk, they finally arrived.

Levy's face darkened with what he saw.

"Damn! How could he predict this?" Levy mumbled while glancing at his team. He could see all his team wore the same expression as him, shocked when they saw many monsters lining up before the tunnel door.

"Leader, how did you know this was a trap?" the red-haired man whispered to Levy. They might be killed if they emerged through that door.

Levy didn't answer him but began to formulate a new attack plan. They needed to clear out these monsters before assisting Zoey's team.

'Zoey, I hope you didn't face a trap like us,' Levy prayed.

Levy glanced at his team and called them to surround him closely, trying to make as little sound as possible, afraid of alerting the creatures to their presence.

Even though Levy believed their powerful invisible shield could hide their scent and movement from those beasts, he didn't want to gamble with his team's safety.

"Alright, listen up, everyone... This is what you all should do now." Levy looked at each of them before fixing his gaze on the red-haired man beside him.

"You lead your team to attack the vampire ants..."

"You, take care of the mutant wolf."

"You handle the Siberian Huskie Monster."

"You, you, and you... back up their team."

Levy assigned his powerful subordinates to lead the group of three or four people. While the rest, he asked them to follow him.

"Yes, leader!"

"Yes, understood!"

"Rojer, leader!!"

"Ok, leader!"

"Ah, guys... Don't attack them with your gun, rifle, or any weapon that could make loud sounds. We can't afford to attract other creatures to this place, especially those damn vampires!"

Levy saw them all nod while keeping their rifles in their space rings and took out a few weapons such as sabers, swords, bows, and others.

He continued, "Alright, let's move! Clean them all in a short time. We should support our General team as fast as possible. And... Make sure you don't die in this place!"

They all nodded and started to move.

There were only three people beside him. From his line of sight, Levy could see all his subordinates starting to slay and chop off the heads of the creatures.

The only sounds heard were the howls of the monsters and their bodies falling to the ground. The smell of blood spread in the wind, making the surroundings nauseating.

In a short time, Levy could see his team overpowering the beasts. They were all powerful adventurers; a mere beast didn't frighten them because beasts couldn't think like humans.

What they feared were the vampires, who were fast and cunning. At least for now, Levy felt grateful; he didn't see a single vampire hiding around this place.

Levy turned his gaze to the three men beside him, "Move! You guys take care of one monster together, yeah..."

Then, he also went to confront the lion monster with three heads and red eyes, which had now spotted him.

Levy swiftly approached the lion monster; he seemed to fly, leaping from one stone to another.

Two black sabers suddenly appeared in his hands when he was just a few meters from the beast. He landed smoothly on the lion's back and severed one of the lion's heads with quick, powerful, intense swings.

Levy didn't stop; he moved and swung his sabers in a flash, cutting off another lion's head. When the third head fell, the lion's massive body collapsed to the ground, creating vibrations when it hit. It all happened so fast, in just a few seconds.

Levy landed on a nearby stone while searching for his next target. He swiftly moved from one monster to another; in just minutes, he had already slain six three-headed Lion monsters. When Levy glanced at his team, he was speechless.

"What the fuck are you guys doing!? Why haven't you taken care of that monster yet!?" Levy felt frustrated at the apparent weakness of these three Silver-ranked Level 2 adventurers.

Levy didn't intervene, as he noticed the monster they were attacking now only had one head left. He turned his gaze to the other team and felt pride in their progress. They had already killed half of the creatures in only a few minutes.

He moved again, disappearing from his position, and helped another team confront another powerful creature: the Siberian Huskie Monster. With a single swift motion, he chops off the monster's head.

Jumping from one place to another, every swing of his saber resulted in a monster losing its head.

A few minutes later, Levy stopped not far from the red-haired man. He stood there cleaning his saber while watching the red-haired man and a couple of his other teammates finish the remaining monsters.

Before Levy could sheath his sabers in his space ring, he sensed a powerful aura approaching rapidly.

'Damn it!! What is this coming at us!? Its aura….' His eyes fixed on the direction of that formidable aura.

"Guys, gather around—" Before Levy could warn his team, a pale man with slick black hair appeared behind one of his men. With a single, undetected, swift movement, the Pale Man cut one of Levy's men's head in a clean cut. Blood squirted from the headless neck and spatted the Pale Man's hand.

The Pale Man grinned, sticking out his red tongue to lick the blood on his hand, and narrowed his eyes at Levy as if to say through his gaze, "You're next!"

'Guys, fall back! Gathered behind me!' Levy's blood ran cold. He warned his team through their mental connection. 'Get behind me, now! This bastard isn't someone you can handle. This vampire is faster and probably can read your minds—'
