Chapter 13 - Chapter 12

After that day, the relationship between Rayan and Jeanne was rather awkward.

Of course, as a man, Rayan took the proper initiative, as he realized that such an incident was a shock for Jeanne.

Since that day Jeanne could not directly and calmly communicate with him, feeling uncharacteristically huge embarrassment.

She was a little sorry for her impulsive behavior, for it was interfering with her main mission...

Rayan saw her confusion and decided to talk to her more seriously, using a little coercion.

"Jeanne, we need to talk." - Rayan said with a note of seriousness as he knocked on her door.

Rayan realized that Jeanne was his responsibility. Her every action could carry insecurities that could cause her to make mistakes that could cost her dearly later.

At the moment, Jeanne was lying on the bed, curled up in a ball. Her facial expression was quite complicated. Both embarrassment and some nervousness were noticeable...

Like a child, she didn't know what to do with the feelings that had come over her.

Perhaps she was a strong and independent woman. Perhaps she was a clever strategist. Perhaps she was someone who was destined to accomplish a heroic feat.

However, history can hide many things. Each hero was unique in his or her own way...

Some were missing a body part. Some were deprived of sight. Some were deprived of great wisdom. Some have been deprived of empathy.

Just like God said - "What makes a Hero a hero is his unique trait, not shared by others."

It was people like this who served as an example to the majority and that is why God loved people like this.

In Jeanne's case - she was deprived of understanding the hearts of people.

Her worldview was extremely kind because she stubbornly believed in the goodness of people. The hammer of realization called "Hatred" did not reach her soul.

It was not until the date of her death that she fully saw the ugliness of human vices.

Anger, greed, gluttony, pride, lust...

Perhaps it was then that this hammer had struck the strings of her soul, but it still wasn't enough...

Rayan saw the problem and wanted her to be able to have the future she rightfully deserved.

Instead of being Alaia's slave, trapped in the Throne of Heroes...

Jeanne, with a confused expression on her face did not resist and opened the door as she felt that dialog with Rayan was the best solution to the problem right now.

Ryan didn't wait for Jeanne's words and simply hugged her tightly around the waist. There were many feelings in his embrace, but the most predominant was tenderness...

"You may not be aware of your feelings, Jeanne... But most likely, what you are experiencing now is love." - Releasing her slightly, he looked into her deep blue eyes.

Jeanne was even more confused. Her heart, which was already restless, pounded even harder.

She could hear her heart pounding in her ears. Being in Rayan's arms, she couldn't say a word.

"L-love...?" - Jeanne whispered very quietly without looking him in the eyes.

Rayan saw her condition and put her on the bed as he felt that embracing her would make her faint...

He pressed too hard on her... "Shit... It's hard to hold on under the atmosphere." - He mentally cursed his sense of tact.

Jeanne, pulling back from the embrace, felt much calmer than before. That didn't make her calm, however.

Rayan felt a little nervous. He realized that if he didn't explain these feelings to her, she would remain like this - distracted and awkward towards him.

"But what do you mean, 'Love'?" - Jeanne asked doubtfully. She knew that Rayan was part of her family. So how did spending time with him "like this" hit her feelings so hard... As if... something broke her bonds...

She wanted to ask a lot of questions, but realized she wouldn't get answers to all of them.

A sigh escaped Rayanne's lips. "Listen Jeanne, there are several kinds of love. There is familial love and romantic love. Romantic love is much more complicated than familial love. It makes a person a completely different person. For family, people are ready to kill and destroy, but for love..." - After a brief tense pause, he continued. "People are willing to break the shackles of fate and obliterate their own limitations. It may sound silly, but that's the way it is, no matter what I say." - Rayan spoke up.

In his lifetime of seeing love relationships, he had noticed one very interesting fact.

What modern people call love can be considered as nothing more than "mocking the real feeling of love".

People are not willing to sacrifice themselves for that love. People are not willing to be each other's support in hard times. People doubt those feelings...

As the saying goes, "A wife is only someone who has been with you in rags and climbed up on a pedestal with you."

Rayan knew that Love was both simple and complex, so he wanted to explain it as concisely and clearly as possible to Jeanne.

Jeanne listened carefully to every word Rayan said. Her heart, full of emotions she didn't understand, wanted to know passionately what was making her feel this way....

And... She couldn't find an answer. "I-I love Rayan...? B-but how?" - her mind was torn by the realization that she still hadn't found the answer to her question. Did she really love Rayan?...

In her short life, she had never looked at Rayan that way. She could be embarrassed, she could blush, but it was quite difficult for her to look at Rayan as a man.

In her eyes, he was too mature and intelligent. At times he seemed too mature for her to view him as... A lover...

Just thinking about it made her heart pound again.

Rayan, seeing her confusion, sighed tiredly again. "Jeanne, the answer to your question will not come immediately. Feelings are not something that can be manipulated with a wave of the hand. The answers to your feelings come only through thorns."

Rayan hated to sound like an old man, but in this particular instance he had to turn on the nerdy old man.

Jeanne listened to his words slightly absent-mindedly. Her thoughts calmed as she realized that time was the source of the solution to any problem.

After calming herself down, she looked at Rayan more calmly, which he himself was overjoyed about.

"Do you feel better, Jeanne?" - Rayan asked with a soft smile. He was glad that his friend was as calm as before.

Jeanne smiled too and suddenly hugged him. "I don't know what my feelings are, but I definitely don't want you to be sad."

Rayan, who didn't expect the initiative from Jeanne, blushed slightly. Such simple but gentle words touched the deepest strings of his soul...

Returning his calm expression, he grinned. "So Jeanne has already grown up...?"

At his words, Jeanne blushed thickly and lightly hit him with her fist. "D-Don't say that!" - She exclaimed with a note of embarrassment in her voice.

And so their day went on, having fun and teasing each other... But how long would these go on like this... Idly...
