Chapter 85 - Missing child

As the first rays of dawn crept through the curtains of their cozy beachside resort room, Lily stirred from her slumber. With a yawn and a stretch, she blinked sleepily, her eyes adjusting to the gentle light filtering through the window overlooking the tranquil beach.

With a mischievous grin, Lily decided it was time to rouse her parents from their peaceful sleep. Creeping silently across the bed, she tiptoed to the side of the bed where Emma lay, her soft snores filling the air.

"Mama, wake up!" Lily whispered, gently shaking Emma's shoulder. But Emma merely murmured in her sleep, turning over to snuggle deeper into the blankets.

Undeterred, Lily turned her attention to Alex, who lay sprawled out on the bed beside Emma, his breathing steady and rhythmic. "Papa, it's time to get up!" she whispered, giving him a playful poke. But Alex merely grunted in response, rolling over to bury his face in the pillow.

With a sigh of frustration, Lily realized that her attempts to wake her parents were futile. But she wasn't ready to give up just yet. Determined to start the day with a sense of adventure, she quietly slipped out of bed and padded towards the door.

As Lily slipped out of the room and closed the door behind her, the gentle click of the latch went unnoticed by her slumbering parents.

Meanwhile, Emma stirred from her sleep as Olivia's cries pierced the stillness of the room. With a sense of urgency, she reached for Olivia and cradled her in her arms, soothing her with whispered words as she nursed her back to sleep.

Once Olivia had settled, Emma's maternal instincts kicked in, and she scanned the room with a growing sense of unease. Something felt off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.

With Olivia still nestled in her arms, Emma made her way around the room, checking every nook and cranny in a desperate search for any sign of Lily. Her heart pounded with fear as she realized that their daughter was nowhere to be found.

Turning to Alex, who was still groggy from sleep, Emma shook him awake with a sense of urgency. "Alex, wake up!" she urged, her voice tinged with concern. "Lily is missing!"

Alex's eyes flew open as the gravity of the situation hit him. Without a moment's hesitation, he sprang into action, joining Emma in their frantic search for their daughter.

Together, they scoured every corner of the room, their hearts pounding with fear as they called out Lily's name. But their efforts were in vain - there was no sign of her.

With a sinking feeling in the pit of their stomachs, Alex and Emma rushed into the hallway, their eyes scanning the deserted corridor for any sign of their missing daughter. But she was nowhere to be found, leaving them gripped with fear and uncertainty.

As panic threatened to overwhelm Emma, Alex wrapped his arms around her, holding her close in a comforting embrace. "We'll find her, Emma," he reassured her, his voice steady despite the fear gnawing at his own heart. "We just need to stay calm and think logically."

Taking a deep breath, Emma nodded, drawing strength from Alex's steady presence. Together, they formulated a plan, dividing the search between them to cover more ground.

With a sense of determination, they set off in different directions, combing through every inch of the resort and questioning anyone who might have seen Lily. They checked the beach, scanning the shoreline for any sign of their daughter, and made their way to the resort restaurant, hoping that someone there might have seen her.

As they questioned staff and guests alike, their anxiety grew with each passing moment. But despite their efforts, there was no sign of Lily, leaving them feeling helpless and scared.

With the sun beginning to set on the horizon, casting long shadows across the sandy beach, Emma and Alex refused to give up hope.

After their frantic search turned up empty, Emma's composure finally crumbled, and tears began to stream down her face. She clung to Alex, her body trembling with fear and anxiety.

"We can't give up," Alex said firmly, his voice wavering slightly as he fought to remain strong for his family. "We have to keep looking."

With renewed determination, they split up, each taking a different direction in their desperate search for Lily. Alex combed through the winding roads of the island, his heart pounding with every passing moment.

Suddenly, his phone rang, breaking through the silence with its shrill tone. With trembling hands, Alex answered the call, his heart racing as he listened to the voice on the other end.

It was the island police office. They had found a missing girl matching Lily's description, and she had given them Alex's number as a contact.

Relief flooded through Alex as he hung up the phone and dialed Emma's number. "Meet me at the police station," he said urgently, his voice trembling with emotion.

As he arrived at the police station, Alex's eyes immediately fell on Lily, sitting alone in the waiting area. His expression shifted from concern to overwhelming relief, and tears welled up in his eyes as he rushed to her side.

"Lily!" he exclaimed, his voice choked with emotion as he enveloped her in a tight embrace. "Thank goodness you're safe."

Lily's eyes filled with tears as she looked up at her father, her own relief evident in her trembling voice. "I'm sorry, Papa," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "I didn't mean to worry you."

Alex's initial anger melted away in the face of Lily's apology, replaced by overwhelming gratitude and love for his daughter.

Moments later, Emma arrived at the police station, her face a mask of concern and fear. When she saw Lily sitting there, safe and unharmed, she let out a sob of relief and rushed to her daughter's side.

"Lily!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with emotion as she wrapped her arms around her daughter. "Oh, thank goodness you're okay."

As Emma held Lily close, her anger quickly gave way to overwhelming relief and love. "Don't ever do that again," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "You scared us half to death."

Lily nodded, her own tears mingling with her mother as she buried her face in Emma's shoulder. "I'm sorry, Mama," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I won't ever do it again."

With Lily safely back in their arms, Emma and Alex clung to each other, their hearts filled with gratitude and love for their precious daughter.

The crackling of the bonfire cast dancing shadows across the sand, creating a warm and inviting glow in the night. Emma sat close to the flames, cradling Olivia in her arms as she nursed her, the flickering light illuminating the love and tenderness in her eyes.

Beside her, Alex sat with Lily nestled against his chest, his arms wrapped protectively around her as they watched the flames dance. Despite the warmth of the fire, a chill seemed to linger in the air, a lingering reminder of the fear and uncertainty they had all felt earlier that day.

As the night stretched on, Emma glanced over at Alex, her expression softening with concern. "You should go get some rest, Alex," she said gently, her voice barely above a whisper. "You need to take care of yourself too."

But Alex shook his head, his grip on Lily tightening slightly. "I can't leave her," he replied quietly, his voice filled with determination. "Not after today. I won't ever leave again."

Emma's heart swelled with love and gratitude as she looked at her husband and daughter, their bond stronger than ever in the face of adversity. She reached out to squeeze Alex's hand, a silent acknowledgment of their shared commitment to their family.

Together, they sat by the bonfire, finding solace in each other's presence as they savored the warmth and comfort of the flickering flames.
