Chapter 28: Peace.
When Kevin and Nicholas were about 30 meters from the city gate, Kevin turned to Nicholas and said, whilst rummaging through his bag,
"Let's wait here for a bit."
He said that while holding a white stone he had taken out of his bag.
He held the stone with his eyes closed for a full minute.
When he opened his eyes, he put the white stone in his bag and took off his coat, alongside his coat, and gave it to me.
"Hold this for me, would ya? I fear they will get burned."
"Burn? What the hell are you yapping about?" Nicholas asked with a very suspicious look in his dazzling grey eyes.
"You'll see," Kevin gave a short reply. 'I'll see? I'll see? What the heck is there to see?' Nicholas had this thought as he looked at the huge daisy field just beyond the city gate.
He was not comfortable in this daisy field; it felt like a vine might just pop up from the ground and attack him.
**Nicholas' POV**
I turned my head back to Kevin since I didn't notice anything strange in the field; he was rolling the sleeves of the shirt he wore like he was preparing for a fight.
When I saw this, I subconsciously started spinning my essence pool. I looked at the things in my hands.
'This won't make me fight or defend myself properly.'
With this thought, I opened my storage space; I looked at it, this was the first time I was watching it so intently.
A blue light first appeared and then melded into the space the storage would open from, and then it began to spread, and at the same time, creating lines as it went.
The lines started from a point and moved outwards.
The starting point of the blue lines began to collapse and cave in; it was falling apart like puzzle pieces.
In a second, the hole had collapsed to a sufficient size; I threw in Kevin's coat and then his bag but
_PAK_
I looked at the animal skin bag that had appeared in my hands.
'Huh? Why didn't you go in?'
I threw the bag into my storage space; it entered but in a second, it came flying out, and then I remembered a part in the description of the spell,
[Living things cannot be put in].
'Oh so that's how it is. Is it the bag that's a living thing or there's something else in it?' I wondered as I scrutinized the bag.
_BOOOOOMMMM!!!!!!_
My inspection was suddenly interrupted by a massive sound followed by a strong heatwave. 'What the...'
°°°°°°°°°°
_Whooosh_
Kevin summoned a gust of wind and parted the incoming heatwave. From the city gate, a figure was rushing towards the duo at a very high speed.
The figure stopped just shy of five meters from Kevin; this person was a woman, a very beautiful one at that. She had very long blonde hair, a set of beautifully carved eyebrows sited upon a pair of dazzling chestnut brown eyes.
Her ivory skin was revealed from the rolled-up sleeves of the shirt she wore.
This beauty did not show the slightest hesitation as she raised her hands and shot out a stream of sunset-colored flames.
_Whoosh._
Kevin raised his hands too like he had anticipated her moves.
He raised his hands and pushed forward, which caused a gust of wind to move and part the stream of fire.
He did so with a very relaxed expression.
Seeing this, the lady did a backflip to increase the distance between Kevin and her.
The lady landed and squinted her chestnut brown eyes as she studied Kevin.
She moved her right foot, performing a side kick; the kick was anything but ordinary because from her right foot, a line of sunset flames flowed out in a line speeding towards Kevin.
Kevin saw this and smiled lightly.
Summoning a gust of wind, he mimicked her actions, sending a gust of wind to intercept hers.
The lady saw this and said with a voice that sounded like it was reserved only for angels,
"I'm going to wipe that smug smile off your face." The lady spoke in a surprisingly cold voice.
"Good afternoon to you too," Kevin replied to her with the same slight smile.
The lady rolled her eyes as she immediately kicked multiple times, releasing a large number of flame arcs which, unfortunately for her, Kevin managed to intercept some and dodge some while mirroring her attack patterns.
They continued doing whatever that was while Nicholas watched with a dumbfound expression.
He watched them exchange blows for about 10 minutes, and during that period, two other people, a man and woman, had joined him in watching.
The woman, whose name he had learned was Chloe, spoke,
"Should we stop them?"
The man, Derek, spoke with his mouth full; he was sitting on a rock while watching Kevin and the other woman, whose name he had also learned was Indira.
"There's no need for that; they'll either get tired or run out of essence," Derek said with a pleased expression reflecting in his bright deep blue eyes.
He had a huge build and was full of muscles; he was just as tall as Kevin if not taller.
And it had to be noted that Kevin was 185cm tall.
"What do you think, Nicholas?" Chloe looked at Nicholas with her enchanting golden eyes.
Nicholas glanced at the fighting pair from where he was seated; apparently, he had been told that this was the way Kevin and Indira greeted each other.
"Well, I say let it go on; they'll have to stop eventually," Nicholas said in an unhurried voice.
"Alright then,"
Chloe said as she picked up two packs of what looked like beef jerky, handing one to Nicholas and taking the other.
The trio ate in silence as they watched the fight.
Sometimes Derek would shout out taunts whenever Kevin dodged an attack.
"Hey, take on that attack like a man!"
"Hey, don't be a wimp!"
"Stop dodging, you cunt!" After every taunt, he would laugh out in a loud voice.
