Chapter 21: A well Deserved Rest.

In a cave illuminated by the bright midday sun, Kevin looked at Nicholas, whose body was shrouded in silvery wisps of light.

The mist seemed to have healing properties as it healed all the wounds and returned color to Nicholas' pale face.

On top of Nicholas' body lay the little wolf, also sleeping and absorbing part of the silver wisps.

Kevin continued to watch Nicholas as the scene of yesterday's battle entered his mind.

Kevin watched as Nicholas' body crumpled to the ground. He rushed over, resisting the attacking branches.

Reaching Nicholas, he stood and released a powerful gust of wind that caused the trees to bend and the branches to fly away.

At that moment, the little wolf howled and jumped out of the bag at his waist, which contained all the spirit stones and meat strips they had gathered. It transformed into a three-foot-tall version of itself, surprising Kevin.

It looked at Kevin and gestured for him to climb on its back with Nicholas. Shaking off his surprise, Kevin stood up. He knew they had to leave the area quickly as he was losing a lot of blood.

Climbing atop the wolf with Nicholas in his arms, they sped deeper into the forest in search of a cave.

Thanks to the not-so-little wolf's speed and Kevin's direction, they found a cave while dodging the attacks of the forest branches.

Once inside the cave and ensuring it was empty, Kevin immediately tore off pieces of his clothes to apply pressure to Nicholas' wounds. But the bleeding didn't stop; something was preventing the wounds from healing.

The blood continued to pour out, and Nicholas' face grew paler. His pulse weakened. Kevin panicked but stopped when the silver wisps flowed out of Nicholas' body, wrapping him up and beginning to heal his wounds. Nicholas had been asleep since then.

Kevin watched Nicholas with tired and lost eyes as a bittersweet smile appeared on his face.

An image flashed through his mind: his daughter, whom he had been forced to leave because of the slumber.

Whenever he looked at Nicholas' face, he was reminded of his daughter.

She was about his age, had long, dark, wavy hair and cyan-colored eyes. He never spent time with his daughter because he was always busy.

His wife had died shortly after giving birth to his daughter, and the nature of his job meant he could only see her occasionally.

She had been living with his sister.

When he finally had the chance to see her, tragedy befell the whole world, and he was transported to the garden through the slumber.

That's why whenever Nicholas was in danger, his fatherly instinct compelled him to save him.

"Oh Natasha, I wish I had been there for you," Kevin whispered in a downcast voice.

"Ngh," he turned his attention to the noise that had brought him out of his thoughts and noticed that Nicholas was waking up. The silver wisps were receding.

"You're up! How are you feeling?"

Nicholas' POV

"Ugh," a moan escaped my mouth as I raised myself up. My head was throbbing slightly.

As I tried to sit up, I heard Kevin's concerned voice. "You're up! How are you feeling?"

I didn't respond immediately as I observed the place I was in: a huge, dry cave with bright sunlight, singing birds, and the smell of ripe fruits filling the air.

I turned to look at Kevin and then replied, "Yeah, I'm fine, just a throbbing headache."

"Phew, that's good. For a second, I was worried," Kevin sighed as he stood up and moved to a part of the cave.

I watched as he came back and handed me a large piece of roasted meat.

"Here, eat this and rest. We will leave tomorrow morning,"

he said as he stood up and moved to the entrance of the cave.

"I want to go and catch something for us to eat later. I'll be back soon," he said and left.

I looked at the spot he was in for a bit and turned my attention to the roasted meat.

'Is this poisoned?'

I poked the meat.

'Yeah, it probably is.'

'But I'm hungry.'

'Where's that little wolf?' I looked around and found the little wolf sprawled on the floor, sleeping peacefully.

'You have gotta be kidding me!' Helios' exasperated voice sounded in my head.

'What?' 'Are you for real!? Like, why would that guy save you and then poison you? How does that even make sense to you!?' 'Oh, you're right.'

I replied as I tore a piece of the meat and began munching on it. *Nom nom nom* And the taste was amazing.

'You're right, Helios, but... I still don't trust him.'

'Oh my god, you know what? You're impossible to talk to. Goodbye,' Helios said and became quiet.

I continued to observe the cave as I munched on the meat. I finished the meat and drank some water from a metal flask that I had found in the corner.

I leaned my back against the wall as I recalled all that I had been through in the past two days.

"Oh, right." All that thinking had made me remember that I wanted to check my stats.

I thought about it, and the screen popped up. There was no change in other places apart from the beast armament section.

```
[Basic stats]
[Name: Nicholas Cage]
[Age: 17]
[Race: Human]
[Spirit essence: 96/100]
[Spirit ability: Void]
[Type: Element]
[Spirit rank: 2]
[Spells: Void slash (lv1), storage space (lv1), Inra's blessing (???)]
[Spirit class: Beast tamer]
[Class rank: 1]
[Beasts tamed: 1 (night wolf)]
[Beast armaments: Falcon claws, Heart of flames, Elven sword, (?????), Lusterless steel, Night eye]
```

"Hmm, I only gained two armaments. It seems like not all kills will leave a beast armament," I muttered as I continued to go through the list until something caught my attention.

"Hmm, what's this?" I was looking at the armament that had (?????) as its name. I focused on it, and this message popped up:

[Error Error.....]

"Huh?"

'Hey, Helios, Helios, Helios! He's not answering. I wonder why. I'll ask him later.'

I decided to leave that armament until Helios answered me.

The next armament was the [lusterless steel]. I focused on it, and its description popped up:

```
[Lusterless steel]
[Type: Armour]
[Description: This armor, which was made by the forge master of the wolf clan, is light, sturdy, and can accommodate enhancements of spells as well as those of tools.]
```

I looked at the next:

```
[Night eye]
[Type: Tool]
[Description: Gives the user the ability to see at night.]
```

After reading the descriptions, I nodded and then moved over to the spell section.

"Hmm, I already know what can do, and I have a faint idea of what can do, so I guess I'll start from .

```
[Storage space]
[Description: This spell gives the wielder a separate space that can be used to put inanimate objects. The higher the level of the spell, the bigger the space.]
```

I looked at the description and muttered, "Hmm, let's see what this spell can do." I called the spell and focused on a pile of stones in the corner, and

*Swoosh!*

It was like the space had cracked open, revealing a miniature-sized black hole.

I looked into it, but I saw nothing. But when I closed my eyes and thought of the storage space, I saw a white 2m by 2m square room.

I picked up a stone and threw it in. In my mind, I saw a hole open, and the stone fell through it.

"Hmm, this is pretty neat."

I wanted to continue experimenting with what the room could hold and what it could not when I felt something.

It was the same feeling that had made me dodge attacks from behind me, like I knew something was there, and now I felt like something was in the cave that Kevin had missed.
