"And you tried to hide this bruise because you feel guilty for that bastard?" Lance asked. The storm brewing in his heart since dinner time was unbearable. He had been thinking about this matter the whole night, wondering why Madeline would try to hide something from him.
Madeline nodded weakly. "He's right. He's so kind to me despite all the mess I caused. I called him only when I needed him, but once the problem had been solved, I simply ignored him." Madeline looked at Lance with eyes glistening with tears. "Lance, I'm not cruel enough to hurt a kind man who has helped me twice."
"Stop calling him kind. He wants you, Madeline," Lance said grimly. "Zane is not some goddamn good samaritan that would help anyone in need. He helped you because he wanted your body and heart as compensation!"
"And what's with you acting like he's the only one who can save you? I can help you better than him. I have all the connections and money that he doesn't have."
